“Book and pay for a sea view room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2010

The rooms at this hotel are all very different you can be given a nice room with a sea view or if the hotel is very busy you could be in one of the ground floor rooms facing a brick wall with two chairs out side the door, they look like staff rooms so if you dont want to end up in one of these awfull rooms book and pay for a sea view room. These also are quite different if you get a room in the middle of the hotel they are very small no draws and a wardrobe so narrow that the hangers have to be turned side ways to close them and you are not able to pass each other in the room. If you are lucky and get a room at the end they are a lot bigger so again pot luck.
We did not eat in the hotel in the evening so cannot comment on that, we did eat by the pool in the day time it was quite expensive for turkey and not very good. Breakfast was much the same as every where else in Turkey apart from once a week when some one appeared from the kitchen to fry some eggs and then vanished again (you will know when he is doing this as the smell of burning oil and frazzled eggs is every where).
The thing we and most of the british tourist did not like about this hotel was the conditions that the tortoises were kept in, they had about 14 large tortoises in a very small compound with not enough room, shelter, water or cover from the heat or bad weather later in the year and also we NEVER saw any one from the hotel feeding them at all. We asked who fed them and were told they did and also the tourist we only ever saw tourist feeding them. A number of people complained but they took no notice.

“Exceptional staff/service but must have a seaview room”

Myself & 5 girlfriends have now stayed here 4 consecutive years and although some of the rooms are now in need of a little attention, the staff truly make up for it.
We have been issued various rooms, of which some are now very dated but the last two times we've visited we have insisted on front seaview rooms, which appear to be in better condition & the views over the bay are breath-taking.
Kadir & Mittin are incredibly helpful & their English is superb, as are many of the other staff. Kas is definitely worth visiting wherever you may be staying!

“Not my kind of place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2010

Funny how you get a feeling about a hotel on first sight. The exterior to Hera Hotel is OTT but the interior is scruffy and in dire need of a make-over. When we arrived (pre-booked through our Istanbul agency Matiana Travel - "over 12 years experience of Private tailor-made and luxury travel services in Turkey" with whom we had organised a 31/2 week visit to Turkey) we were first shown a room that was dirty, tiny and in no way equal to what we expected. After complaining at reception, we were told that no other rooms were available as the hotel was full. After a call to our agent we were offered a slightly better room with a view of a wall and washing line! This was also unacceptable. Finally we were shown a sea-view room with a balcony. It was far from good but the best we had seen. The basin had a crack in it (leaked all over the floor) and no plug. Reception told us that they did not supply plugs in Turkey (?) and that there was nothing to be done about the basin! The room was very neglected looking - bedside lamp shade broken and falling off, old tatty furniture and decor - not a place I would go to again.

The hotel has private access to the sea with a platform jutting out over the rocks where one can sunbathe or swim. There is also a cafe/bar here which is convienient and our lunch was fine (nothing special though) The hotel pool is clean but very sterile looking with no shady areas or plants to soften the concrete.

Breakfast is the normal buffet style but not good. A very limited and cheap affair compared to other places we stayed at. The breakfast room was soulless and reminded me of a work canteen.

One thing that really annoyed me were the timer lights throughout the hotel corridors. They were set for a very short time and I didn't like having to constantly wave my arms about so I could see where I was going! (How much money do they save with this device?)

The location of the hotel is good, a short walk down to the marina and village square where it is possible to get a good evening meal in a nice atmosphere and stroll about the shops.

“Lovely position, but don't be fobbd off with the first room you're given”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2010

This hotel is in a beatiful position, facing the sea at Kas & an easy 10 minute wak to the main shopping & eating area. On arrival myself & my parents were given dark dingy rooms on the lower ground floor, but after complaining we were moved to rooms further up & with side sea views. All the rooms are quite pokey but ok if you don't intend spending much time in them. You need to be aware that balconies of the rooms on one side of the hotel are only a few feet away from the balconies of the hotel next door. In fact my mum quite often struck up conversations with people staying there because it seemed rude to ignore them when they were so close!. Also, this hotel is not suitable for people without full mobility because the lift doesn't come down to the ground floor, but starts on the 1st floor. There is also a flight of stepswithout a handrail up to the pool area.
We didn't eat in except for breakfast, but unlike other reviewers I found the breakfast quite good.As well as the standard bread & a toasting machine there was always yoghurt, fresh & dried fruit & boiled eggs, but every day there were one or two specials, such as scrambled egg, the local cheese pastries, or pancakes as well as meat options. For the price, I think the location makes this hotel worth it.

“Older Hotel in excellent location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2010

We had a house rented in Kas though arrived in Kas one day early and found ourselves at the Hera. If you were staying here longer you would want a seaview room for both the view and the privacy, for one night our side room was adequate.
The Hotel would have been very flash years ago and it now an afordable stop in a great location within 5 mins walking distance to the sentre of town and right across from the beach.
The pool is elevated with an lovely view of the sea and there is also a bar on this level, the beach bar and access to the sea is only a small walk across the road.
Our room was clean, small and old though on short notice it was great and the price right. The staff were very helpful also, especially caring bags as the elevator doesn't go right to the ground floor.
