“Lovely hotel, small rooms but views of Kalkan were beautiful”

The first 4 star holiday in a while we set off with trepidation, but despite a small room, this was a lovely hotel, in a gorgeous resort which we'll definitely return to. 10 mins walk from the main town, loads of lovely restaurants nearby and lots of sightseeing opportunities for the days where you've had enough of sunbathing. Kalkan is the Amalfi Coast of Turkey - a beautiful secret.

On arrival at rhapsody hotel, our room was on the top floor with no lift! Three was a hole in bathroom ceiling & mould, shabby furniture&cig dimps in ashtray on balcony,we asked for another room they said they were booked up,although it didn't appear full, they did paint &fill the hole, after 5days they ,moved us to a lovely room overlooking the pool, heavy rain was expected & the roof would leak hence coming thru into our bathroom! Breakfast was poor, awful museli & cheap juice. The staff were lovely & very friendly & helpful, location was nice a short walk into town, loved turkey but won't be back to the Rhapsody boutique hotel, the only boutique bit was 2 carved chairs in reception!

“Almost good”

We had a week in this hotel in mid September 2011 and found the hotel to be fairly adequate for our needs.

On the plus side were the view - absolutely fabulous. The room - simple but nicely furnished with effective air con. We had to ask for a kettle although most photos show kettles in the rooms. They didn't put up much of a fight over this. The cleaning staff were excellent and are a credit to the hotel.

The pool was fine for a hotel of this size and the young lady on reception was certainly very pleasant and helpful. The 10 - 15 minute walk was ok and we only tried the "shortcut" up heart attack hill once. The breakfast was adequate and I've certainly had worse.

On the negative side:

We were advised that the hotel serve tea at five o'clock for all the guests to get together over tea and cakes. We have experienced this in several other hotels and it is very welcome. The other hotels, however, give the tea and cakes free. At the Rhapsody they charge for the tea. Tea is so cheap in turkey that I find this rather odd. It seems like just a way to sell a few extra cups of tea at five o'clock. They should either give the tea as a good will gesture or forget it altogether. The cake was stale, apparently, too.

All drinks at the pool bar have to be charged to the room. We prefer to pay as we go so the Rhapsody succeeded in selling me 1 Fanta all week and at 4.9 TL I wouldn't have bought many more even if I could pay cash. 4.9 TL for a small bottle of fanta is total robbery when I can buy a large bottle from a supermarket for less than 2 TL

The breakfast/pool staff were a waste of space and I, personally dislike being addressed as "mate".

We declined the offer of a barbecue/belly dancer night and I'm glad I did. The food was not up to much, according to a few unfortunates who did attend, and the belly dancer was male. Nothing wrong with that but it should have been advertised as such.

Turkish bath - Thirty Three pounds! A joke surely?

All that said I would consider going back since we tend to treat hotels as just somewhere to sleep when we are not sight seeing but I suspect we could get a better deal elsewhere.

Employee of the week. Whoever it was who looked after our room - well done and thank you.

Room Tip: The four superior rooms are probably worth considering

“Turkish delight”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

Kalkan is my favourite part of Turkey and the Rhapsody was a perfect choice of hotel, its very small and personal with outstanding views. Breakfast is limited but this is very normal in Turkey unless in a huge all Inclusive property. When I went they offered half board where they barbecued meats on the terraced areas which were great, it is more a hotel for couples or friends, Anatolian sky holidays offer great prices for this hotel and others in unspoilt Turkey away from the mass market.

“Great holiday at the Rhapsody Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

We stayed here for the last week of September 2011 and had a very enjoyable holiday. Good quiet location with fantasic views over Kalkan and the bay. Room was very comfortable, clean and a change of towels everyday, even the towels provided for sunbathing by the pool. Food good served at tables overlooking the wonderful views. Afternoon tea with homemade cake at 5pm a nice touch. Friendly and very attentive staff, nothing was too much trouble for them. We would have no hesitation in recommending to other couples. Thank you to all at Rhapsody Hotel. Kalkan is a fantastic place and I can't think you will do much better than the Rhapsody Hotel. No comment about the Spa and Fitness Centre because we never used it.

Room Tip: Choose room 404 for the best views of Kalkan and to get the sun longer than most others.
