“Fantastic”

I just returned from an extensive trip from Turkey. All of the reviews for Villa Mahal stating dramatic views , great rooms, and terrific food are accurate. The only missing point is the passionate owners who will bend over backwards with warmth and charm to make sure all of your needs are cared for. Don't let the steps freighten you. The chairs beachside have a paging device for drinks and terrific food. Breakfast can be delivered to your room as well.
the staff does the steps.Try the grilled lamb with eggplant and turkish cheese. My mouth starts to water when I think about that meal. Terrific hotel with great food.

Room Tip: Cliff house

“Perfection...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

If you want a slice of perfection, all you need to do is stay at Villa Mahal. I stayed here at the beginning of September and it was bliss!

The staff are extremely attentive, beaten only by the three owners Sebnem, Murat and Ipek. The food is amazing, made even better by the beautiful view of the sunset. The rooms are all clean and the villas, one of which we stayed in, has a man at hand to clean and assist in any way possible. It is perfect for a relaxing getaway and would be, although I haven't tried it yet, brilliant for a romantic getaway.

There is nothing more relaxing than swimming in that pool or the turquoise sea. I cannot wait to go again!

“restaurant meal at Villa Mahal”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

Can only speak as you find, and we had a horrid experience. We ate twice including with our sons. The second time the woman owner/manager was screeching at the two nice waiters as they were trying to seat us outside on a cool, windy evening after several days of rain. .A poor start.!!Then when my husband's meal arrived the plate was stone cold and the chips were totally cold. I had to eat my fish alone until a new meal arrived. She was all smiles and when we complained that this should not have happened as she delivered the new meal, she was very angry and said the food had not been cold. We were flabbergasted and amazed that she would disagree when we were looking forward to a lovely evening. No complimentary coffe and she was nowhere to be seen when we left.Never again!!. We had such amazing food and service everywhere else and fabulous food on holiday. She thinks she has the finest restaurant in that area but although the setting is worth paying for the food is not.The waiter was sweet and embarrassed.

“Perfect for a quiet getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

The Villa Mahal is just what the doctor ordered for those who are tired of the rat race and who genuinely need some quiet time away. There are no TVs in the rooms, little or no music in the public areas and the guests are also pretty low key. The hotel appears to have an on-going arrangement with a British travel company called Exclusive Escapes, and the middle-aged guests sourced this way made up most of the visitors during our visit. Everyone was civil towards each other, but respected others' privacy. The environment was also very quiet and low-key. The sea is accessed through ladders from the platforms made on the rocks, so there is no beach; but it was very clean and clear. At night, tables were set up right by the sea for extremely romantic dinners. A boat shuttled back and forth to Kalkan until 7 pm, so you don't really need a car or cab, unless you want to eat dinner there.

The staff were positive - all smiles all the time. They even prepared a breakfast to go (unsolicited) for the early morning trip back to the airport. Also, it was a comfort to see how much they look after the numerous street cats in the compound. One showed up on the last day we were there and the nice ladies at the reception had already figured out all the relevant details about the cat and were getting ready to get is neutered and fed.

The only negative about the hotel is that some rooms have toilets without a door. This is awkward. I understand that the owners are planning on installing a door by next summer.

Room Tip: Ask if the toilet has a door

“Even better the second time around”

Just returned from our second stay at the Villa Mahal - and the best just got better. The bar area has had a complete makeover since 2010 and extended to great effect. What has not changed is the warm welcome from the owners Sebnem, Murat and Ipek and the wonderful staff.
The food served in the restaurant is excellent and the dining platforms that the tables are placed on at night are right by the sea and provide the most romantic setting for dinner that money can buy.
It takes quite an effort to drag yourself aware from this little piece of paradise but if you do want to go into Kalkan then you can take the boat service that the hotel provides from 9.30 until 7 pm. This drops you off in the harbour and you have the choice of dozens of little bars and restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets.
We never normally return to the same plave twice but we can't wait to go back next year - in fact we have already booked!
