“Excellent Location, Food, Pool”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

The Samira hotel is situated in an excellent position, half way up the hill in Kalkan. The pool area is very clean and beds always available (one time when there were none we simply asked at the bar and within minutes two appeared for us). The prices at the hotel are in line with other bars in Kalkan, which we found very reasonable everywhere and the pool snack bar is one of the best we have had! The quality and quanitities of the lunches were fantastic. No need to venture out in the heat to eat anywhere else during the day. Most lunches cost around £4.

We stayed bed and breakfast. This was not the option we should have gone for as we hardly ever make breakfast. The breakfast was OK, but nothing special, cereals, fruit and bread mainly. You could buy different breakfasts but we did not feel the need with such a fantastic snack bar by the pool. We stayed in the hotel part as we were b&b. Unfortunately for us we stayed in the 'un modernised' side. The room was small, very dated and the shower flooded the bathroom floor every night. The temperature on the shower was either boiling hot or freezing cold. The standard of the rooms spoilt our holiday a little, but Kalkan is so marvellous, did not spoil it that much.

We will definately return to the Samira, although will make sure we go self catering as everyone we spoke to had nice newly refurbised rooms who were staying self catering. If you are considering going to Kalkan and are a couple, then this holiday is perfect. Not much beach there but you can get a water taxi to the beach clubs, which are basically loungers on nicely built up areas. Very relaxing and made a nice change from the pool.

There are over 150 restaurants to choose from in Kalkan. All of them excellent food and service. We only stayed a week and in that week only had one meal that was not up to standard and that was at the Gourmet Terrace Restaurant. The food was good, however it was served cold, alot of that was to do with the windy night but also the fact the food was left waiting to be brought to us for some minutes. Also the night we booked to visit this restaurant was my 40th birthday and although we had pre booked and been promised a specially decorated table and cake etc, none of this happened so we ended up going back to the hotel for dessert and celebrations.

That was our only disappointing experience in Kalkan. Wonderful wonderful place. We will definately be returning.

“SAMIRA SMILES”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

The biggest asset of the Samira Hotel was its location; an easy walk into the town and down to the harbour and little pebble beach. But be warned, the Samira has a self-catering establishment which is much higher up a steep hill and away from local amenities. The Samira is tightly run, bar bills have to be paid next morning, and a lot of the 'included' breakfast is extra. There are notices everywhere about penalties for bringing your own food to your room - no picnics here !!! The lads who run the bar and tables are very friendly, but also good at getting you to buy more. If you like British Pop Music, then you'll enjoy the fact that the Samira has 3 Brit Pop CDs which are played relentlessly from 12:00hrs to 01:00hrs every day and you'll only escape this racket if your room is on the back facing the hill.

Room Tip: Try to be sure you get the Samira Hotel in the town and not the self-catering Samira which is much f...

“The worst weather for 32 years but we had a great holiday nonetheless.”

Samira is in a great location, not too far up the hill.Near to the taxi and dolmus station and all the great restaurants and fascinating shops.

This hotel, and indeed Kalkan itself, has the friendliest and most helpful staff/ management you could hope for and the food at the hotel is very good for a 3.star.

Our room, in the block furthest back ,was small and a bit ' lived in' but very clean and had the loveliest view of the bay. The beds were very comfy and the hotel provided a nice snuggly throw for the 3 days when it was a little chilly 'cos of the rain. No need to take books with you if you read in English...there are loads available to borrow at the hotel.

Our friends were moved from their room on the ground floor which had no view and a flooded balcony [ v. unusual weather ] to a much nicer room by the pool with no hassle at all.

Turkish Night was well worth the small extra payment, especially if you enjoy Turkish food.

We looked at the apartments and they were lovely so we are hoping to return and try those out next year. Can't wait.

Just hope the idiot who complained about my spending too long in the hammock goes somewhere else!!

Once again stayed at the Samira Hotel the place just gets better. Had an Apartment this time simply great impeccably clean bar staff good but of course it is Ergan that makes the experience so great. Had a meal in the Bosforus Restaurant which measured up to the best in Kalkan a really enjoyable time. All the staff are friendly and although the Weather was,nt the best we still had a great time Thanks again. Marilyn@Tony Morecambe

Room Tip: Book Self-catering and enjoy an Apartment.
