The Samira hotel is situated in an excellent position, half way up the hill in Kalkan. The pool area is very clean and beds always available (one time when there were none we simply asked at the bar and within minutes two appeared for us). The prices at the hotel are in line with other bars in Kalkan, which we found very reasonable everywhere and the pool snack bar is one of the best we have had! The quality and quanitities of the lunches were fantastic. No need to venture out in the heat to eat anywhere else during the day. Most lunches cost around £4.
We stayed bed and breakfast. This was not the option we should have gone for as we hardly ever make breakfast. The breakfast was OK, but nothing special, cereals, fruit and bread mainly. You could buy different breakfasts but we did not feel the need with such a fantastic snack bar by the pool. We stayed in the hotel part as we were b&b. Unfortunately for us we stayed in the 'un modernised' side. The room was small, very dated and the shower flooded the bathroom floor every night. The temperature on the shower was either boiling hot or freezing cold. The standard of the rooms spoilt our holiday a little, but Kalkan is so marvellous, did not spoil it that much.
We will definately return to the Samira, although will make sure we go self catering as everyone we spoke to had nice newly refurbised rooms who were staying self catering. If you are considering going to Kalkan and are a couple, then this holiday is perfect. Not much beach there but you can get a water taxi to the beach clubs, which are basically loungers on nicely built up areas. Very relaxing and made a nice change from the pool.
There are over 150 restaurants to choose from in Kalkan. All of them excellent food and service. We only stayed a week and in that week only had one meal that was not up to standard and that was at the Gourmet Terrace Restaurant. The food was good, however it was served cold, alot of that was to do with the windy night but also the fact the food was left waiting to be brought to us for some minutes. Also the night we booked to visit this restaurant was my 40th birthday and although we had pre booked and been promised a specially decorated table and cake etc, none of this happened so we ended up going back to the hotel for dessert and celebrations.
That was our only disappointing experience in Kalkan. Wonderful wonderful place. We will definately be returning.
