“Relaxing Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

Arrived in the early hours of the morning. Reception staff were friendly and helpful and a bellboy took us to our room and showed us how to use the airconditioning remote. We were situated in block 3 on the second floor. The room was small but had been recently refurbished so was clean and modern with plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space. The bathroom had a huge walk-in shower, sink with large drawer underneath and a w.c..The tiny balcony ( only 2 chairs would fit) looked out over the gardens and forest. This meant that our room never got too hot. The restaurant was large and spacious, the food was varied ( a good mix of Turkish and English) so something for everybody. The waiters were efficient and friendly. Other reviewers have mentioned cats wondering around but we didn't see any in the restaurant although they did wander around outside. The 2 pools were kept spotlessly clean. The quiet pool was just that. No music, games or noisy guests. Ideal for reading, listening to your MP3 and generally relaxing. There is a bar which is open all day which also provides snacks at lunchtime. The main pool is freeform with a slide which is switched on 2 or 3 times a day. The entertainment team ( only 2 men when we were there) organise darts, pool, water polo etc. There is a pool bar which again is open from 9a.m. til 8p.m. Never any queues and lovely staff. No race for sunbeds in the mornings but we were not there in the high season. Every sunbed had a thin mattress. By the end of the 2 weeks my bottom was so sore I thought I might be getting a bedsore!!! The hotel put on a free shuttle bus down to the blue lagoon in Olu Deniz everyday. It picked you up at 10.30 and dropped you back at 4.30. The sea water was alot warmer than the hotel pools which were very cold.. The evening entertainment was dire. We saw a couple of acts in the 2 weeks that were quite good but apart from that it was bingo, Karioke, quizzes e.t.c. Although the Hotel is a bit remote it is easy enough to walk down the hill to the main road where you can get a dolmus to Olu Deniz, Hisaronu and Fetiye. All of which are worth a visit. We usually got a taxi back as the walk back up the hill to the Hotel was a killer!!! The weather in September was fantastic. Very hot during the day and cooler in the evening. Overall we had a lovely holiday. Many guests return year after year and I always think that says alot about a hotel. We met lots of lovely people of all ages..Very few children at this time of year. Would we go back? Yes, probably for a week. If there was more going on in the evening we might think about staying longer. The entertainment team need to get there act together (excuse the pun).

Room Tip: Choose first or second floor. Ground floor rooms look out onto a grassy bank.

“Good, but not THAT good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

My wife and myself stayed at the hotel last month, having booked a last minute deal. It was still quite pricey though, even though it was "All Inclusive".

Arrived in the early hours (don't you always!) to be met with helpful staff who got us quickly to our room. The first impresion was "why all the dark wood everywhere?" It has the general appearance of something out of the Black Forest and looked quite old. The room was small but adequate with a fair sized shower room and all appeared clean, but not spotless.

The gardens were attractive and well-tended. There is an unusual water feature than runs most evenings.

The hotel is indeed "out of the way", so you need to get one of the local buses that run quite regularly on the main road to go shopping, They're quite cheap and I'd recommend a trip into Fethiye which was delightful.

Foodwise, the restaurant operates on the standard "all-inclusive" buffet system with that slightly unhygenic feel. Food trays are simply loaded up, when empty, but the utensils remain the same and were rarely changed. Still, the food was of reasonable standard and there was always plenty of choice. One old woman there claimed it "all tastes the same" which amazed me, even though it was plainly geared towards the UK market. Chips were always available, as were plenty of other items for the retarded pallet.

Cats seem to have the run of the place, along with a dog who hangs around at mealtimes. Due to people feeding the animals, you wil get them begging if you sit outside. Something the waiters didn't really want to attend to which was a pain.

Restaurant staff were generally helpful, good-natured and very professional though. Always a "Hello" from these friendly people.

We stuck to the top pool most days and always managed to get sunbeds, granted it was off-season though. This was supposed to be the quiet side of the complex, even though we were haunted on a daily basis either by the guy selling Turkish baths etc or the girl flogging jewellery. The management really should really have a word with them about this as it's not great to be hassled whilst lying on a sunbed reading a book. The bottom pool has a fun slide for the kids and looked to be busy most days

The top bar looked ok and was quite functional, though we tended to use the main bar mostly as it was closer to the main restaurant. There was usually some kind of "entertainment" here on most nights (always a bugbear of mine) though we tended to forgo the bingo, "best couple" and karaoke competitions and, dare say, the darts, knobbly knees and grab-a-granny events too.

There is a small mini-mart just off here, which proved useful as there was nowhere else in walking distance to get a newspaper, suncream, shampoo etc.although the chap here was a little surly, as was the young girl helping him. Never a smile, despite "good mornings" all round. The lack of English was a surprise in a resort that caters predominantly for British people

The hotel runs daily free trips to The Blue Lagoon beach, though I'd advise to go on a week day. The Saturday we went it was packed with locals. Very beautiful though and we wished we'd gone earlier in the week. Apparently, some regular Blue Lagooners complained that we'd been dropped off at the beach where you have to pay for sunbeds etc. I can't comment as we never saw St Nicholas Bay or whatever it was called.

Overall, it did the job, though I'd have expected more from our money on a last minute deal at a 4-star hotel, which this isn't. We'll definitely be heading back to Turkey, but not to this particular establishment or location.

“Perfect in every way”

My husband my teenage son and I stayed at the Greenland Hotel recently and had a fab time. When we first arrived we was a bit disappointed as it was a bit out of the way but that wasn't a problem as the buses ran every 5 mins into local villages plus the walk up the small hill did us good!! The staff were very friendly and accomodating, nothing was too much trouble. The meals were fab, always such a wide variety at all mealtimes with friendly waiters. My only problem was all 3 of us were in 1 room but that was probably my fault because I should have booked 2 rooms. The pool and pool area was never packed , it was so relaxing. The hotel surroundings were very clean and always being cleaned. The evening entertainment was ok ish but not brilliant but we made our own entertainment and went into the town. Josef who sold the Turkish Baths was a laugh and very friendly too. All in all a great holiday and we will definitely be back.

“Friendly, clean and good value for money!”

We stayed in the Greenland hotel on our first trip to Turkey. I thought it was in olu Deniz but it was actually closer to Hisarano, which was better for us as Hisarano has some great nighlife. We stayed in the hotel up until midnight (took advantage of the free drinks) and then headed into Hisarano to party (approx £5 in a taxi). You could also get the bus into Hisarano or Olu Denix for about £1 each!! the buses run up until midnight. The hotel is very clean and confortable and there are 2 pools and pool bars. the top pool was quiet with no music but the bottom pool was lively with games for all ages. The entertainment team were very friendly and we participated in best couple compeition, kareoke, belly dancing! The food was nice. We ate out 2 nights as it was cheap and we fancied something different. I would definatly reccommend this hotel and this area of Turkey.

Room Tip: we upgraded to a delux room which was more spacious than a standard room.
