We had originally booked to take a group of 32 of our club members to Spain. 2 weeks before travelling the hotel in Spain was closed and we were offered a transfer to The WOW Topkapi Palace. We were delighted, after reading the brochure it seemed ideal. On arrival we were all impressed, with our rooms and the complex and the fact that we could share the amenities of the Kremlin hotel next door. The hotel and grounds are clean and well tended and the staff are friendly. There are many cats roaming round, don't try to befriend them as they can be quite vicious .Due to the time of year most of the complex was closed , of the 2 bars that were open only one was easily accessible for people with mobility problems, access to the other bar was up a steep flight of stairs or by use of a lift that was not normally used for guests and opened in to a kitchen on the 2nd floor. All of the entertainment was in the Kremlin Hotel which was quite a distance to walk for our disabled people. The majority of our group had no problems and enjoyed their stay.
The dining room was large with inside and outside seating, it was clean but the staff were not able to clear and reset the tables to keep up with guests arriving for their meals. The food was very repetative, and not very warm ..
This hotel also caters for very large over night corporate events, which totally disrupt the holiday feeling ,these events seem to take preference over hotel guests, the delegates we found were rude and selfish. One evening due to the number of people on the course we were unable to use the dining room until 8.15pm, by this time most of the food had gone and was not replenished one of our group had to chase the sweet trolley as the staff were clearing away before we had time to finish eating. The same happened at breakfast the following day. With this amount of chaos in November I dread to think what it will be like in August with all 900 rooms occupied.
The hotel is just a short dolmos ride away from the nearest shops, but if like us you needed to use a taxi to go to the Saturday market in Lara it will cost 40 euros return.
We had taken our spending money in Lira but found everything was priced in euros,if you're good at maths okay, if not take your calculator.
Overall our group had a good holiday, personally I would not return to this hotel, it is far too big and there is nowhere to go for a stroll after dinner, the brochure says shops and restaurants nearby, I would say 2-3 miles away.
Room Tip: If you have mobility problems ask for a room near to the dining room and main bar, some of the rooms...
