“enjoyable stay”

We cannot fault anything about this hotel. Staff, food, service, was good. We had a really good holiday at the andalous and would recommend it to anyone visiting tunisia. There was plenty of sunbathing area the beds need updating as some where broken but hey ho its having a re-furb after christmas. The hotel is in a good area as a good base and watersports are really cheap. Tipping is a big thing in the hotel so have your dinas ready at the bar and in the restaurant. Dont let these poor reviews put you off they're not all true, some people must remember they are abroad not at home. The coffee shop is good, coffee and cake at four o clock loverly. Give it a go good value for money.....

“Excellent value for money”

We have just returned from a week's stay at this hotel and we had a great holiday. After reading some of the negative reviews, I packed a case full of immodium, but i needn't have worried. The food was very nice, There were always lots of different options in the restaurant, and we enjoyed trying the different salads made up with rice, lentils pearl barley etc. There was also a pasta station where the chef would make up a sauce to suit your peronal choice. His garlic and chilli sauce was top notch. The waiters would also bring you a bottle of wine with your meal. The rose wine was gorgeous!
We heard people complaining about the lack of choice at breakfast. This was basically because the hotel did not offer bacon, eggs etc. Instead there were always fresh croissants, pain au chocolate, cereals, yoghurt ,eggs meat and cheese and a selection of fresh fruit. My favourite were the different types of madeira cake which was lovely with a coffee. At busy times they did run out of crockery but it was soon replaced.
We were impressed by the quality of the drinks. The local beer/ lager was very refreshing as were the gin and tonics! We were pleasantly suprised to discover that cocktails were part of the all inclusive and therefore just had to try them all!!
The staff were absolutely brilliant and could not do enough for you.Tips were appreciated however, we still got great service whether we tipped or not.
There is a shop/boutique in the hotel that sells a selection of souvenirs. The prices were open to negotiation and you had to haggle. We discovered some shopping centres about 10 mins walk from the hotel that sold everything you could think of and at fixed prices that were incredibly good value.
The beach was lovely with a nice breeze. The pool area was much hotter. There were always places to sit without getting up at the crack of dawn.
Overall we had a great time which was down to the fact that we met some really nice people who we had a laugh with. I believe that the hotel is going to be refurbed in January which would make it even better.
We would definately return again as it was good value for money.
The only negative experience we had in Tunisia (nothing to do with the hotel) was the arrival at the airport. We arrived on time and were taken off the runway by coach to the arrivals building which was about 200 meters away. We then waited to get into the building to go through passport control. We spent nearly 2 hours trying to get in, during which time more British flights were landing. There was no organization and people were passing out from the heat. We later found out that the day we landed was a bank holiday and there were only a few operatives working, however it would be enough to put you off returning to Tunisia. It took longer to get through immigration and to the hotel than the flight from the UK!
The journey back was totally different. There are 10 flights on a Sunday that leave within an hour of each other, however the check in process was very efficient and there were good facilities in the departures lounge.

We travelled to the hotel with mixed expectations however the hotel is immaculatey clean, the rooms excellent the bed excellent the food excellent and the staff were superb remember it is not the uk so food is not the same, however the choice is more than acceptable and can be found some where on the grounds most times of the day. The staff work hard and are very pleaseant trying to make your stay a memorable one. All the complaints we read before going were un founded and we feel just from moaning brits. go the hotel and enjoy and relax you are meant to be on holiday

“Tunisia Revisited!”

It's 25 years since we last visited Tunisia and the Diar El Andalous and Port El Kantaoui proved to be an excellent choice on our part. The development is massive since 1985 but the Marina and local facilities are very good, including the 2 18-hole golf courses.
We chose the Diar El Andalous from the brochure having previously stayed at the Abou Sofiane and the Hotel Hammamet and we found the accommodation to be pefectly adequate even though we occupied the older section of the Hotel and you could not have wished for staff to be more helpful or friendly - they were a joy in themselves.
The food was very good with a wide choice of dishes and anybody who could not find anything to eat from this choice shouldn't be going abroad! I actually heard someone complaining that the chips were not like English chips - they should go to Blackpool! Overall excellent value for money and a good choice.

“The Good and the Bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2010

Let's start with the good points at the hotel: the staff were very good, always on hand to help and always with a smile although tips help of course. Our room was one of the newly refurbished ones and was very good with modern fixtures and fittings and a very comfortable bed. We did not book a sea view room and was glad to have a serene garden outside our balcony. The all inclusive local alcohol was quite good and plentiful. The buffet food was good, some nights you had to be inventive and browse the different dishes to find something different but on the whole quite a good choice with some interesting dishes cooked in front of your eyes. The entertainment team worked very hard all day and late into the evening and overall the entertainment was a refreshing change from two parrots dancing on a stick or a has been singer. Access to the beach was quick and easy with the cheapest water sports I have ever seen.
Now for the bad points: We know that Iberostar have only owned the hotel for one year and although some changes have been made they will be closing for two months late 2010 to complete the refurbishment. In the meantime look out for the worst and most dirty sun beds and mattresses I have ever seen. I know that you use a clean towel between yourself and the sun bed but honestly these were not nice. The pool area is quite small so the majority of sun worshippers can be found in the gardens which are looking very tired. Lunch can be taken at the pool cafe but beware of the barbecue, the tray of cooked meat was left for too long without someone to keep the flies away.
Now for the last comment: I spent the last four days with the worst case of diarrhoea I have ever had. II am no stranger to foreign food having spent most of my working life in some weird and wonderful places but this was something else. Bear in mind that for my own reasons I had not used the hotel swimming pool or swam in the sea, I had not eaten or drunk anything outside of the hotel and only used bottled water so that just leaves the hotel food. I am sorry to report that I was not the only sufferer and just talking amongst fellow guests in the bar led me to believe that maybe 25% of the guests had the same problem. The local doctor could be seen often in the reception area. I had a vacation earlier in the year to Tunisia and had no similar problems so I am afaid the hotel food and hygiene is suspect.
