“lovely hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

the hotel was clean, staff very friendly & helpfull...indoor pool was an added bonus as the outside pool was a little cold! Food was typical to any buffett meal abroad..breakfast was good with fresh food cooked to order..evening meal had sufficient choice although 1 week was probably enough!!entertainment was not the best but was there to take or leave.we would go back to this hotel

Room Tip: If travelling in winter a room without a sea view would be preferable as the sun went off the rooms...

“A bit tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

Just returned from 11 nights with Thomson in this hotel. The hotel is well situated onthe beach, just five minutes walk from the golf courses and the port and shops. The public areas, except the dining room, are fine and seem to have been renovated recently.

The dining room had flithy chairs and sometimes the table cloths were grubby from the previous occupants - just turned over instead of changed. The waiters seem to have lost enthusiasm - who can blame them? They are just clearing tables and serving the occasional drink, instead of doing the skilled waiting jobs they were probably trained for, but then that is what happens with buffet dining. Dinner on holiday should be an occasion to look forward to, which it wasn't here. The food was acceptable in the evenings, breakfast was fine with ample choice of egg dishes, pancakes etc as well as pastries, fruit etc.

The bedroom was large with a nice view over the pool and sea. A new carpet, but everything else was tired and the bathroom tiles were definitely past it. The lighting was atrocious in the room - could not see enough to read so if you are a keen reader take a booklight with you! Twice this was mentioned at reception but they really don't care - even said this was a common complaint! No safe in the room so had to trek to reception for the 2TD a day deposit box which is tedious. Take your kettle if you like a brew. The local supermarket has milk etc and is very cheap with delicious cakes, bread, fruit etc.

The pool area is fine apart from being charged 2DT per sunbed mattress, although strangely the beds are free on the hotel's beach. Take your towel.

The evening entertainment revolved around the bar and a duo would sing some evenings - usually the same songs each night. The fakhir show seemed mainly to be a photo sales opportunity for the resident photographer as they tred to get as many guests as possible piled on top of the fakhir on his bed of nails.

Enough moaning. We enjoyed the golf, the weather was fine and considering we paid about £33 per person per day for the flight, private transfer and half-board hotel package with Thomsons it was great Value for Money!

Room Tip: Pay for a sea view and ask for non-smoking if you don't smoke as the two lower floors of bedroom...

“The old codger”

The hotel is very dated, we had 12" deep rust in bath, almost eaten away, door frame hanging, marks on carpet., but the cleaners kept extremely clean. We spent £40 tipping and I was annoyed by this. We wanted to carry our own mattress for sunbed but no man had to do for tip. Even the maid came into reception on departure and ask us for money as she had cleaned our room. They all get wages, you should be able to tip if you want too not for every little thing. The staff in dining room are lovely and you could always find something to eat and there was plenty. The porter at airport beyond belief, snatched cases away wouldn,t let us have and made us go to bank for tip as we only had notes. This is the one thing that put me off this country. My daughter said would it be any good for her and 4 children, I said no as not enough to do for children and her husband would get cross at the continual hassle for tips. I would go back to this hotel, but I hope they are true to their word and update. A few on the hotels have been updated in this area and they will need to if they are going all inclusive. Also no entertainment. The sun was warm and met up with some great people. Rosemary and Ness made our holiday

Room Tip: The seaview rooms do not get the sun at all.

“Nice winter break”

Have just returned from a 7 night stay at this hotel. Have stayed at many hotels in and around Port El Kantaoui and found this to be up there with the best. The location is great. Sits right on the beach and is only a 5 min walk from the marina. Nice outdoor pool area and garden. The indoor pool was a nice surprise with tropical plants. Bedrooms roomy and decently equipped (tv, hairdryer, plenty of pillows and blankets) with seperate bath and toilet rooms. Different dining areas for breakfast and evening meal. Entertainment every evening, sometimes different entertainment in the main bar and the american bar. The staff were discreet and not in your face. I guess this could lead some to thinking they were rude. After travelling to Tunisia for the past 11 years I found this one of the best places I have stayed. A lovely holiday, topped off with great weather for November. Would go back there again tomorrow!

Room Tip: Ask for a sea/pool view - lovely.
