“Fabulous place to stay”

I travelled with my 14yr old son to this hotel..........what can I say ? FAB-U-LOUS Darlings, don't even consider staying anywhere else !! Don't listen to whingers previously slating it, they obviously over stayed their welcome and didn't tip the staff. The norm is about 2 dinar (75pish). I haven't been abroad for about 10yrs, but can now say it's safe to go here with your kids. We had beautiful, but simply furnished rooms cleaned every day, towels made into swans and hearts, fruit and local sweets on arrival and a view to die for overlooking the sea from the balcony !
The food was delicious and hot with a choice that made sure it catered for everyone including fussy eaters. The service was spot on and the waiters polite and friendly. Drinks were in abundence including local cocktails, I can personally reccomend the
El Mouradi...very happy juice. The cafe was very quiet, but with lovely mint tea and the local shisha pipe to try (only tobacco soaked in absinthe). For the pipe you paid 5 dinar, but there were 6 of us that all tried it and there was loads left in it.....we were certainly open to trying new things and this is what this hotel is all about.
The Animations (entertainment) team were all friendly and you found it hard to say no to having a laugh with them, daytime or evening there was plenty to do. The shows are very funny every night and included those that were up for a laugh, (Hi-de-Hi) there's a disco afterwards that stays open until about 1.30am. For those wanting a bit of culture there are local belly dancing and folk dancing shows too.
The indoor pool was warm to hot, two jaccuzzi's that were even hotter and a massage centre (at extra cost, but verrrry much worth it). The gym is relatively well funished, but mainly with weights.
There are numerous trips to go on though the Rep, I went on the 3 cities tour...absolutely worth every dinar, El Jem was very spiritual. The Zulu night is a bit of a let down, but worth going on if its a nice day.
Would I stay here again ??....YES and I have already booked for later on this year for 14 nights. The only thing I can find negative about this holiday was the Arctic wind and it snowed in the Sahara!!!!!. The weather was cold, but not as bad as when we got off the plane to -6 degrees, welcome back to Great Britain.
Roll on October when I go back !!

“Depends what you are looking for”

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for one week at end November 2011. We were slightly apprehensive after reading the reviews, but more than plesantly surprised upon arriving at the hotel. Reception areas very well decorated and looked after. The decor in our room was rather tired, but certainly made up for that in space, a huge bed and a wonderful view. The food during most of our week was excellent, but towards the end choice began to get quite limited. It seems to be a hotel where a lot of British guests stay during the winter months and they began arriving at the end of our week which co-incided with the beginning of December. A tip - end of October - November would probably be a better option as the food was certainly better before the influx of winter visitors arrived.

We wanted a quiet week being able to take advantage of the spa facilities and in this respect we were not disappointed. All staff were polite and friendly. The walk along the beach to the charming Port el Kanoui was just what the doctor ordered.

All in all - a lovely relaxing break in a very plesant place. Tunisia is full of rich culture and history we had no idea about including the 3rd best preserved Roman Ampitheatre in the world!
El Mouradi Palace is an excellent base for your discoveries.

“Fantastic holiday and brilliant Hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Me and my boyfriend visited last may (2011) - have only just got around to leaving a review. The hotel was brilliant. The bedrooms were tired and yes could do with a little updating but they were very clean and were re-cleaned every single day. Even a t-shirt I had left on the bed one day whilst out was folded and "ruched" up when we returned back. A very nice little touch. We actually had a room with two balconies, which was lovely, we did have two single beds pushed together, but they were quite big and we managed fine between them. When we visit again, which we intend to, we will ask for a double if they have it but it made no difference really. The hotel itself may be a little tired but we found the remainder of it, i.e the communal areas, absolutely immaculate. I am a little funny when it comes to cleanliness, however the communal spaces were fantastic, the pools were so clean and beautiful. The sand on the beach was lovely, the indoor swimming pool was gorgeous too. We were lucky enough I think to have visited in a quiet time, if you choose a busy time to travel then it cannot be helped if children are running around, that is generally the parents fault not the hotels, however we were very lucky and it was so quiet and peaceful. A lovely place for a young couple. We stayed half board, but whenever we wanted to change the time of our meal (from an evening to a daytime lunch) our request was met quite happily with no charge. I booked a massage at the spa, and although I was surprised by it being a man I overcame that fear! and it was an excellent massage. Our rep (just sunshine) was brilliant, he gave us all the information newcomers like us would need. he even taught us some basic language to prevent so much hassle when going round the markets. Overall this hotel was great, especially for what we paid for it. We are intending on returning and look forward to staying again. We couldn't have asked for more from our first big holiday abroad as a couple.

“Has changed for the worse”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

I have stayed at this Hotel before and found it reasonable by standard, in fact a gave a good review to the fact.
We stayed at Xmass and New Year as we have in the past, what a change.
The service has dropped from trying to care ,to how much money they can get out of you without a service.
I was very ill during my stay and had to eat in the room , we had to pay full charges for each meal which cost a fortune so in affect doubleing are holiday expense.

The staff did not enquire throughout the holiday only to tell me I had to pay 8 dinnar for the internet which was infact my only source of enterainment at this stage. Do they know what Five start means.

The hotel was unandated with children who ran up and down the corridors broke the lifts knocked on doors late at night, (Midnight being early), it was a night mare, the staff when complaining did not want to no.

I struggled down for the Newyear gala to be told I had to pay a further £200 dinnar (£100 approx) I remarked I am half board and I have never paid this before , no sympathy from anyone, you have to pay, I remarked I will just have my normal evening meal then, shock from the staff that I should suggest such a thing, no they did not have such availablity, but I have paid for this or at least I thought, anyway I reluctanly paid and went through what was a long and boring evening with amateur shows and the place half empty because people just left after being stuck in the corner and not being able to see or communicate with anyone.

The Hotel in genral has gone down hill if that is possible and is far.. far ..distant from the service it used to have even though rated 5 star by the x president as a favour and only being a 2 start at best.

They have lost whatever they had in the first place, no longer will europeans be tolerated or given any service.

The choice is yors.

“Not recommended for Xmas / New Year. Staffs rudeness was incessant!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

No festive gaiety in this hotel I’m afraid! …

We arrived at the hotel late at night where we were “greeted” by two grumpy sour receptionists who just pushed keys across the desk. Upon arrival a few of the older guests tried to locate some drinking water so that they could take their medication before bed. They finally had to resort to drinking from their bathroom taps, as even their miming was ignored by a lazy non-English speaking receptionist who flatly refused to entertain their needs!

The bar staff were infuriatingly rude – you could be the only one in the bar & you’d have to endure a staring match before they serve you and would never return your change - would be met with irritation if you asked for it! However, their rudeness reached new heights one afternoon when I asked the barmen for change for the pool table, only to be met by unreserved annoyance as he marched right up to me & actually shouted right in my face to sit down whilst pointing to a nearby chair before leaving to get my change!

I appreciate that women are treated differently in Tunisia (as part of their culture) but in a hotel that has mainly European guests, I was appalled by their lack of respect. The reception staff (even management) would often abandoned me (even in mid-sentence) if a male arrived that needed assistance & would just leave me standing alone like a prized idiot. I was constantly trying to fight my corner! It was exhausting!

After an accident (noting to do with the hotel), we were very upset/emotional & asked the receptionist if he could phone our rep for us. The very second the call ended, the receptionist’s hand was outstretched in my face, loudly demanding we pay an extortionate rate for a local call that lasted 30 seconds! Our Rep was deeply apologetic & admitted that this hotel has a long way to go when it comes to basic customer service.

After the first week, some of the group abandoned this hotel & booked themselves into other nearby hotels (or purchased day passes) which offered all inclusive deals, live music, entertainment, etc. Other than Christmas Day & New Years Eve (which were quite good) this hotel was deadly quiet. It didn’t surprise me that guests were prepared to pay extra & “jump ship”!

The only staff member to always greet us with a genuine smile & chat was at the Bureau de Change counter (the “older” guy)! He was an oasis of charm & pleasantry in this shark infested hotel!

Room Tip: Try to ensure you get a room with a view when you book in reception. Just because you book it onlin...
