1st time in tunisia and really enjoyed it,when we arrived we met the rep Mehdi from just sunshine what a great and truly honnest person he was, giving us good n plenty of advice on what and what not to do,the hotel was very clean the food was ok but repeated, most of the hotel staff were ok but the best waiter was annis top top bloke, the all inclusive part of the holiday isnt all inc if you like beer, vodka, fig schnapps, and a selection of cocktails you'll be fine,if you like any other spirits all inc is 12-1pm and 6-7pm any other times you have to pay.if your going full board i would advise upgrading to all inc which costs about £14(28td)per day as a beer costs about £2 for a half pint.all in all we really enjoyed the holiday and are hoping to go again very soon

We love this hotel and have been May December (Xmas) and August over the past 9 years. This hotel is not situated in a large resort and is between Monastir and Sousse so is mostly hotels with access to the beach. It is opposite a golf course and a few shops have sprung up over the years.Busfares to Monastir and Sousse as cheap as chips.Go Karts half a mile away quad bikes the same and are more expensive when booked through the hotel reps etc..Local town Sahline a carriage ride away or a good walk
This is a european hotel not a lot of english as no tour operator there now only Just Sunshine who try to take care of all the English guests even if booked independently or by low cost beds etc.
The hotel could do with a lick of paint but the hotel gardens, interior and pool etc are kept immaculate.Indoor pool heated in the winter.
It has a massive pool at the front with bar which is closed in winter. and large pools at rear near animation team stage outdoor bar and snack bar etc. There is direct beach access with water sports and free pedaloes in summer.cold drinks available in summer on beach (security both sides).Snorkelling can be good.
Ants were a problem in August at rear pool side. No other problems like mosquitos etc.
The staff like the English and are very friendly we are treated like honoured guests (friends).
Animation team have been better in the past but they are very friendly and good with kids.
Hotel puts on folklore nights (belly dancers etc) fakir shows karaoke etc or the animation teams dance or have audience participation nights but you have to sit through german french italien russian etc introductions which we just laugh about.bingo takes over an hour in all languages.
Hotel has its own disco opens at 11pm the animation team run it drinks have to be paid for.
Al inclusive guests can have one meal per week booked at reception at it's own al la carte restaurant. It's ok but menu is set to two choices and you get the regular hotel organ player.
All inclusive drinks..........not a lot vodka schnappes beer red and white wine and a couple of local drinks happy hour twice a day with no charge for gin pastisse etc.
It's a muslim country don't expect too much at the bar.
Breakfast 6 am till 10 am cereals croissants french bread crepes eggs etc don't expect english and you wont be disappointed. No sliced bread or bacon.
Snack bar 11 am till 5 pm mostly pizza in winter more choice in summer outside.
Lunch 12.30 till 2 pm Chicken turkey veal or beef pasta lasagna lots of nice home made deserts and fruit. Is repeated weekly but tasty.
Evening meal 6.30 till 9 pm Live cooking meat or fish pizza chicken turkey veal pasta lasagna etc quite repetative but tasty enough micrwave available if a bit cool.
snack bar 10 pm till midnight is left overs from evening meal.
Restaurant staff brilliant we have had same table and same waiter for 9 years most staff speak a bit of english. can be bombed when hotel is full to capacity about 1600 in summer.
One of our party had a dicky belly for a couple of days years ago but no other problems except a bit of sunburn.
Water available free but if you want a bottle to take away it has to be paid for.
Beach towels free/ exchangeable but deposit required (refundable) same with safety deposit box and remote. Only BBC news channel in english.
Sunbeds free 1 dinar about 43 pence for matress (all day) but optional extra Lots of sunbeds at pool side and beach.
Have booked with direct holidays airtours lowcost beds travel republic just sunshine on the beach hotels 4 u etc can get great deals on flight and hotel deals to this hotel if booking yourself 10 dinar taxi ride from Monastir about 30 from new Enfidha airport. (2.27 dinar to pound)
Only problem has been moaning english guests we know what to expect in an arab country we are always comfortable and find Tunisians very friendly if treated correctly and politely.
Sea views are good of rear pools and beach but you pay extra I find the beds a bit hard for me most rooms twin beds with extra bed in sometimes.Over 700 rooms in the hotel.
Greeat base to explore Sousse Port El Kataoui Monastir Trips to other sites can be done cheaper by local louage (shared taxi) bus or train than with reps like El jem Tunis Frigui Zoo Zulu night etc.
Weather at Christmas usually about 18 to 20 lovely in May too hot in August.

“Great hotel, food and facilities.”

We stayed here twice in 2011 so we must have liked it! The pool area was lovely but the out door pool was not heated so in april and may when we were there it was tto cold to swim. There was an indoor heated pool which was warm and the children played in that a lot. There were tennis courts and the whole site was really nice. The food and its selection was fantastic and the staff were incredibly friiendly, particularly if your female!! Watch this if you have teenage daughters as there standard line appears to be; let's drink coffee when I have finished work, away from the hotel! This said it was a superb hotel and a very enjoyable stay!

“Worst Holiday Ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011
14
people found this review helpful

NOTE: ** I have given the review a 1 star as I am unable to select a lower rating **

Not sure where to start here so I will share a quick thought of the experience as a start.

1) Just Sunshine, I will never have any further dealings with them.
2) The El Mouradi is a chain I will, again, never use again in my life, in any country.
3) Tunis Air, I would rather walk - would probably get there quicker anyway.

I think that covers all aspects of the holiday, now for an explanation as to the above comments.
1) Just Sunshine.
The booking was as easy as could be, completed over the phone in no more than 15 minutes, its just a shame they can not book the holiday you have purchased, or respond to a complaint without having to threaten them with ABTA.
The booking was for a room with a sea view with a double bed. They stated the sea view would be extra and could not guarantee a double bed. We paid the extra for the sea view as requested so on arrival expected a room with a sea view and possibly a double bed.
The Just Sunshine rep basically accused as of lying when we stated that we had paid for the sea view and we had to wait for her to take the bookings, for our fellow new arrivals excursions, before she contemplated looking into our issue. By lunchtime I asked her to give me the tel. number for their head office in London so I could complain to them direct, it was at this point she decided to call them herself. It took 15 minutes to confirm that we had paid for a sea view and confirmation to be faxed to the hotel - 15 minutes would have been impressive at the time of arrival, not after the disappointment of booking into a room with a car park for a view and having to wait for the rep to run through the bookings for the new arrivals.
On arrival (after a 4 hour flight delay and an hours wait for our luggage) we had to purchase some water for my partner, she was seating on the floor at the point of passing out with de-hydration.
We spoke to the Sunshine rep (the rep who met us at the airport who was not the same rep as the one at our hotel) and explained the situation; he pointed out to us where there was a bank kiosk to exchange cash for local currency and where we could buy some water. We had to queue at the bank kiosk (you cannot buy or take out any local currency outside Tunisia) then purchased some water. The Sunshine rep was aware what we were doing and knew were we were, had given us directions to where the coach was parked. On arrival at the area where the coach was parked the coach was pulling out without us, I had to stand in front of the coach to make sure it stopped, the rep said they were just moving the coach (didn't explain where to or why).
I wish they had pulled off without us; our holiday experience may have been a better one.
On our departure we were accompanied by our rep only as far as the hotel she wanted to get to, but stated there would be another rep at the airport to see us through the boarding process. She either lied or this Sunshine rep was invisible.
On our return we complained, via e-mail, to the person that e-mailed us the holiday booking confirmation. A month later we called inquiring as to a response, they basically stated that the reply was in the post. At this point we threatened reporting them to ABTA. We received a response a month after that. The response did not answer all our complaints, the facts were wrong and they were surprised at some of our comments.
The response ended with;
"In closing, we sincerely regret you have felt the need to complain on this occasion.
However, we hope that despite this issue, you enjoyed you holiday to Tunisia and would consider using our services again."

I can confirm this will never happen again as we will NEVER use Just Sunshine again.

2) The El Mouradi
On arrival we were told the booking did not show a sea view and therefore we would have to pay extra. No further discussion was entered into as the time was 04:00 and would have to wait for the day staff to argue the point.
We then received a room with twin beds with a car park view and a shower that showered everywhere except for the area below the shower head.
The following day, the day staff were of the same calibre and would not accept that we had paid for the sea view. After confirmation arrived from Just Sunshine we were treated as criminals who had escaped justice.
After the first night in our sea view room we complained there was a problem with the air conditioning, this was that we were unable to control the temperature with the thermostat.
An engineer was sent up who did not understand English and stood there with his hands up to show the air conditioning was working as it was blowing air. The problem was that overnight the room was too warm for me to sleep in and so had to move the mattress from the bed and lay it on the floor directly below the air conditioning. Sleep on a mattress on the floor for 2 weeks - Nice going for a 4* hotel.
The food feared no better, jumped beef, jumped rabbit jumped chicken and I assume, jumped chips as they were mainly raw and therefore must have JUMPED from the fryer before they were cooked. Of course you could always pay the extra supplement to enjoy an alternative menu - All Inclusive surcharge I assume. The seating arrangements were fine , when you could find a table to sit at. The restaurant staff were also fine, as long as YOU got out of their way when you were in a collision course with them as they would not move out of your way.
The bar staff again were fine, if you didn't mind waiting for them to finish their conversations before you got served and did NOT expect a thank you or any kind of manners from them. The drinks as All Inclusive were Vodka (with plenty of water), Bouka (the local spirit), Beer and a cocktail made from Bouka between 2-4 pm. You could always pay extra (the All Inclusive surcharge) for other spirits.
The pool was fine, if you could put up with the constant flies landing on you, and I do mean constantly, and were prepared to have another sunbed 2 inches away from yours on either side. Sunbeds , which you had to pay extra for a mattress (the All Inclusive surcharge again). All Inclusive at El Mouradi means the bare minimum with the choice to pay a surcharge for the normal standard.
The beach is as wide as the hotel but one end of the beach was only deep enough to take one sunbed, so were always taken. The other side you had the 2 inch personal space again. Of course if you wanted a mattress for the sunbed you had to pay extra (the surcharge again). The beach attendants did not like it if you showed them the (surcharge) ticket for the sunbed from the pool and after the third time, we were told they were only valid for the pool (a surcharge on the surcharge). So your other option was the sea, took two days before we were both stung by jelly-fish. The beach is full of them.
The Hotel did not use the air conditioning in the main bar area which became very uncomfortable. the hotel is over-run with cats, this may explain to some extent the issues with the flies.

3) Tunis Air
3 hour delay on the outbound flight. No coffee/tea or hot drinks on the flight - apparently a strike in France by the caterers was the reason for that.
The food very basic and the manners non-existent.
An hour to wait for the luggage in Tunis airport, with no shops open for refreshments.
On the return flight I asked the Tunis Air staff if there were any delays, she explained this was Tunis Air and that was the norm, sure enough 2 hours delay. The caterers were STILL on strike but we were both given a 'thank you for using us' present - FOOD POISONING.

Needles to say we will never use Tunis Air again.

Our holiday (from hell) was from 02/09/11 for two weeks All Inclusive.
We are a couple, 40+, who have stayed in 4* All Inclusive accommodation before.
What I did not know is that you can have a -4* rating which is what the El Mouradi is and just forgot to add the -.
We are courteous and expect people, ESPECIALLY hotel staff, to treat us in the same manner. I personally thanked the bar staff every time I got served and only recall receiving one thank you in return.

** CONSIDER YOURSELVES WARNED **

“Good for cheap holiday, nothing more.”

Having arrived at el mouradi skanes mid september for the first time, the hotel held a first good impression. Our room was nice, although having to push two single beds together causing a big gap in the middle was uncomfortable. The air conditioning could of been more powerful as it got very hot in the room and took ages to cool down, but apart from that all fine, the maid was nice and carried out a good service every day.

The food in the restaurant wasnt great, and that is coming from someone who isnt fussy, we ended up eating out the last 3 days of our weeks holiday. The restaurant was very busy, making the limited waiters work very hard, which ment a slow service. It was more like a canteen than a restaurant.

The swimming pools were lovely and big, having two different kinds. The main pool was very lively and busy, it played alot of games and loud music, which was good if you get bored but not good if you wanted to relax. We found ourselves at the quieter pool for most of the hoilday which was just as nice. The only thing that was annoying were the flies, they wouldnt leave you alone! I dont know if this is all year round or just when we were there. I was pretty disappointed with the beach as it was very small and busy, the sea looked pretty dirty, but the sand was nice.

As being a young couple we ventured into the near by towns looking for a bar or club, but it only seems that they are open on the weekends and is very limited. The markets were very good if you can haggle but very intimidating with being hassled constantly, worse than iv experienced in egypt etc, we only lasted 45mins!

overall i enjoyed my stay at this hotel, it wasnt perfect but it wasnt terrible, it was what we paid for, a cheap last minute holiday.
