We travelled to the Sahara Beach first 2 weeks in November as a group of friends meeting up from around the country, We Have met at this hotel on several occasions.
I cant understand the bad reviews this hotel has had, Yes its a bit out of the way for shops but all you need to do is walk down the drive and hop on a bus into sousse or monastir.
The food: Plentyful, a wide variety, something for everyone and they even have pork .. yes a muslim country serving pork chops!!! Breakfast .. Freshly cooked omlettes whilst you wait, also eggs and pancakes, Lunch can be eaten out side at the beach bar or in the main restaurant, Pizza's made fresh, pasta, meats, fish, what more could one ask for .. Evening meal Consists of salads, soups, potatoes, chips, meat, fish, pasta, pizza and desserts to die for :)
The rooms are basic but spotlessly cleaned every day by the maids, they are fresh and bright mostly twin rooms although some are doubles. Myself and my friend always book single rooms with a connecting door, we leave this open all day and only lock it to sleep at night. No there arent tv's in the rooms but who wants to watch tv on holiday ... ohh wait .. are you missing the soaps ? Yea there is only 1 plug socket in the room and i did find this frustrating, easy take a adaptor that holds 3 or 4 plugs i do.
The grounds of the hotel are immaculate, lush green grassy area's with lots of sun loungers, and the more recent addition is the water park .. this was closed in November but we managed to take a walk around the area and its nice. There are 3 out door pools, the main one is where all the animation action takes place, the 2nd is the lagoon pool with seperate kids area .. then there is the quiet pool where its chill out in the sunshine with a good book.
The animation team at the Sahara work something like a 14 hour day keeping the guests entertained, they work for a pittance but are always happy and smiling, They work hard to produce shows every night .. Ricardo is always happy and smiling, His smile is infectious Once he is on that stage he has a grin from ear to ear ..
The hotel staff: if they can help you in anyway you only have to ask they are all friendly and polite, My 8 yr old neice had terrible toothache whilst we where there and ended up having to see a dentist, The hotel staff rang for us and made an apointment, arranged a taxi to take us and wait until she had been treated then bring us back, she ended up having 2 teeth out, it cost including taxi's 50 tdn. That night quite a few of the hotel staff asked after her, They where concerned that she wasnt well. Even the little man who makes pancakes in the restaurant made her a special pancake that night.
This hotel holds no airs and graces, its not posh, its homely, its child friendly, its disabled friendly, its single traveller friendly, Its everything i want from a holiday and more ..
Go with an open mind you may just be shocked ..
