“Great surprise for 3 star hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

We booked this hotel because it had acceptable price and a great ranking by the guests, better than a four and five star El Mouradi hotels. Yet , until we came in the hotel, we were suspicious about our choice. We were pleasantly suprised. The hotel has a high level of hygiene, every corner is being cleaned every day. We had a room with big balcony and view on the garden.
The hotel surroundings, grasslands and flowers are amazing (since you are practically in the desert). The beach area is picturesque, it has a beautiful white sand and emerald-blue sea, without noisy tourists and loud music. It's a heaven for those who want peaceful holiday.
Most events and animations during the day, took place by the pool area . Although I think that the pools could be bigger I have to say that they are always clean with warm water and, while we were there, they haven't been overcrowded. The food was good, fresh with a lot of variety (from fruits, salads, fish, meat...to the most delicious oriental cakes). The hotel staff were pleasant, helpful, friendly and hospitable... The Tunisians are wonderful people. The animation team is the fourth star of this hotel. They are enthusiastic, funny , charming young people who are doing their best to make your holiday more pleasent and enjoyable. They will try (without insistence) to make you get involved in daily activities (volleyball, gymnastics, water polo, bowling, aqua gym, darts... and most funny midday game). The hotel also offers five tennis courts, mini golf , basketball court and billiards, childrens playground and playroom. For those who like shopping the center of Mahdia is 10 min away (taxi is 5 dinars). There you can find nice leather handmade products and silver jewerly for a very low price after a little negotiation with insistent seller.
At the end we were sad (especially my four years old son) that we had to finish our holiday.

“We were impressed and enjoyed our stay”

We appreciated all the hard work the staff put in to make our stay enjoyable and relaxing ! We thought the hotel was really good value , some of the hotel was a a bit worn and basic however our room was comfortable and clean with air conditioning and a balcony over looking the pool and sea. The food was quite nice with alot of variety, from freshly made pizza, rice ,salads, fish and usually a good choice of meat, especilaly from the outdoor grill which was open for lunch anrd dinner( grilled tuna a must ,and the ice cream a big hit ) beach was sandy and clean with loungers and shades, a lovely pool and were surprised that it was so warm. The animation team were so friendly and fun and made our holiday ,they always had time to chat and smile. and must say the best animation team we have come across The other staff were also pleasant, especially at the pool bar and the headwaiter Abdul, although some spoke more english than others.I would advise to tip alittle at a time all through the holiday to the staff as they earn very little and work long hours, and this seemed to help us along .( 2 hour transfer was a shock but would go back and hope to in Oct)

Room Tip: Good for Families and Couples, Great value, mostly German, Italians and Tunisian guests a

“Loved this hotel - but not for everyone”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2011

I booked this hotel with my mum as it was exceptionally cheap, all inclusive and in a hot country. We wanted a week away to relax and sunbathe...I must stress that we are relatively unsociable, and our main requirements were a clean hotel, near the beach and good weather.

As it was so cheap (about £330 for the week including flights and transfers), we weren't expecting too much, however we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was clean, it is situated directly on a fabulous beach, the staff were friendly without being too overbearing and the food was superb!

Location: pretty much in the middle of nowhere (which suited us perfectly), we did not leave the hotel so I cannot comment properly on the area - but with a hotel so nice we felt no need to explore elsewhere. The beach is absolutely beautiful. We did go slightly out of season (end of September - beginning of October) so the weather wasn't amazing - it rained for one of the days, and there was quite a chilly breeze on some of the other days, but all-in-all very pleasant. There was plenty of sunloungers (on the beach, I cannot comment about by the pool), and I didn't witness any sunbed hogging by those pesky Germans!

People: we found the staff to be friendly, however the resort caters predominantly for Germans and Italians so not everyone could speak English. As two women travelling alone, we are very conscious of being pestered by pervy men (as we often find in places like Greece, and particularly Turkey) however there was none of this at this hotel. The staff were polite and helpful, but did not harass or grope us. One point I must make however is that the guys on the beach selling knock-off cigarettes/jewellery/clothes/fruit etc can be an absolute pain!

Food: without a doubt the best part of our stay! Neither of us are big eaters so the food is not usually the most important thing, however we both managed to put on weight after a week, which we have never done on holiday before! There was plenty of choice, the food was constantly being replenished, and was all fresh. A lot of people on our flight home complained about terrible food and stomach upsets from other hotels in the area, so we felt incredibly lucky about our stay (I have a VERY delicate stomach, and I wasn't ill once!) Breakfast was a choice of cereals, fresh fruit, plenty of hot food, freshly baked breads/croissants/pastries and pancakes/eggs etc made to order. We only had lunch on one day, which offered a similar selection to the evening meals. The evening meals were amazing. There was the basic selection of salads, pasta and freshly made pizza, and each night there were different speciality dishes on offer - mainly seafood, which was perfectly filleted and cooked to perfection (we even had fresh tuna steaks one night). The desserts were disgustingly tempting as well! We did not have the same meal twice during our weeks stay. Another great thing is that the staff never pressurised you to hurry up and leave the table like they do in some places, you could dine at your own leisure (but be aware that it is self-service). The only problem I had with the eating facilities is that no hot drinks were served with the evening meal (there are soft drinks and beer on draught though, and you could help yourself), so we had to go down to the bar for a coffee after our meal. One thing I did like was water coolers were available in the lobby area and you could help yourself at any time of day.

Services: unfortunately we had a rather bad experience with the cleaning staff. The guy who cleaned our rooms didn’t exactly do a thorough job, and we also managed to accumulate several coffee cups which we had taken back to our room, and were never removed (ok, that’s probably our fault for being lazy). The problem we had is that if we left any cigarettes lying around, the cleaner would help himself. We found this incredibly rude, especially as we had tipped him early on in the stay, but I suppose it will teach us for leaving them lying around! There are a couple of shops selling souvenirs etc which were pretty nice, and not too expensive, without the haggling and hard sell seen in other places! One of the guys in the shop by the pool was lovely, helpful and really friendly, but never once pressurised us into buying anything. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the entertainment staff as we didn’t really do anything in the evening – we didn’t even have a look at the club! However, the entertainment team were lovely, so friendly and polite.

Overall I would say this is a brilliant resort if you want a quiet, relaxing stay. We did go out of season, so I don’t know if it is a bit livelier in season. I would highly recommend the food (but for British holidaymakers I would suggest taking tea bags!) If you are looking to socialise on holiday, this is maybe not the best place – the language barrier is a BIG issue, as some of the staff could not speak English, and we only met two other British tourists during the whole stay. Also, although we didn’t leave the hotel, next time we will definitely book one of the excursions (through the travel operator; we got warned that local companies offering them can rip you off) – they sounded brilliant and were reasonably priced. You could choose from quad biking, camel rides, camping in the Sahara and numerous shows.

Another note is that the currency (Dinar) could not be taken out of the country, and there is a fee to change it back to Sterling at the airport, so I would recommend only changing what you need, when you need it. Also, duty free was priced in Euros, so although still pretty cheap, us Brit’s do lose out on the exchange rate.

“Great 3 star hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

My husband & I have just enjoyed a weeks holiday at this hotel. Apart from it being filled with a large percentage of Germans & Italians, there were only 8 of us British there, we had a great time. The staff were most helpful and very friendly, and as for the animation team, they were some of the best ever we have come across in a 3 star hotel.
The food was OK, especially the salads, but there was a lack of good meat. We found it to be full of gristle and fat.
The hotel itself was extreamly clean at all times.Once upon finding a problen with our shower & reporting it, it was delt with within 5 mins
The beach is lovely, with lots of space for everyone, with water as clear as can be.
We took a trip into the the town of Mahdia. The cost of which was 5 Dinars (approx £2.50)
for the two of us each way. The town in full of tourist shops & you do get encouraged rather a lot by the shop owners to enter their shops, and buy something rather than let us just brouse. This did begin to get us down after a short while.
There is quitea lot of new building going everywhere, so I would think very shortly this area is going to be quite a holiday hotspot.
All in all though, a great holiday.

“Not up too standard as discribed by tour operator”

Well what can I say. We arrived at the hotel and the first thing that I noticed was that it was a three star, we booked with on the beach . com and they advertised it as a four star! The man in reception was helpful and suggested that we go for midday meal befour booking into the room as the meal finishe's in thirty minutes. Plenty of salad and rice etc. Unless you are adventous and like trying things, there is no food for the "English" eater. When we arrived in the room, the bath was filthy, after complaining the bath did get a deep clean. There is no hair dryer in the room, but you can rent one. No fridge, even though it is a hot country, so if you buy water expect to drink it warm after a while. Towels are provided , but if you want beach towels you will have to put a 20 dinar deposit down and get the money back at the end of your holiday. Cushions for the sun loungers can be rented at 2 dinar at day.
Breakfast, the only food that is really for an english palet is toast, there is plenty of other stuff to choose from, if you like , boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, hot dog sausages, boiled peppers and some concogtion was ressembles porridge.
The majority off signs are in German, all the hotel staff speak German and very very little English. When describing what the food is, if you ask the just say that it is a Special!! We went into Mahidia and were charged 12dinars for two sprite, worked out to be about £3.50 per can. Yet if you buy one from a shop you will only be charged a dinar.
If youu don't mind basic accommodation, basic food and drinking cold red wine (they put it in the fridge), well this place will be ok for you. But be warned, don't expect a lot.
