“Nice Hotel at the very nice place”

The hotel is nice and quite OK. We have spent 10 days from 22. June to 02. July. Our room was at second flour and the door between our and next room been open and no chance to be locked. First, we tried to get the door repair and hotel receptionist promised that door will be fixed ASAP before we take our suffer. Door was not fixed and we asked for another room and we get it. Tunis is lovely place with so many places to see (Carthage, El Jem, Tunis City, Sahara, Kaiouran, Sidi bou Said, etc...). Mahdia beach is great and hotels pool as great as well. Service is an individual base and depends who is serving you. The hotel need a serious manager who will take care for all staff. For the end as I said the hotel is nice, Mahdia town is nice and Mahdia beach is great. Some dishes were quite good and tasty but others was very Arabic and not so good. We spent nice 10 days and we will back next year.

“10/10 - Can't fault it!”

First things first.. Reading through peoples reviews I think I must've been staying at a different hotel, and I disagree with anyone who gives negitive reviews for this hotel.
I, and the people I was with, enjoyed every minute, start to finish. When we got there we were greeted with open arms, and complimentary drinks. They also kept the resturant open for us at 11pm, and we loved the food then, and every meal time since. The food was amazing, lovely set out, variety - my boyfriend who won't eat anything non-english loved it too - it was food fit for a king and I can't believe anyone could slate it.

To conclude, the whole holiday was amazing. The people were lovely, the food was lovely- even the wildlife was lovely.
Would go back.

“Very Nice hotel but with a below average restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2010

Stayed here on 10th October for one week, The Hotel itself is very clean and spacious wirth nice decor it also has a nice pool and beach, but just be careful of the hawkers! The rooms were very clean also and spacious. The staff seemed to be friendly enough and the entertainment team do there best to make it a good holiday despite there acts being a bit tame. Look out for the talented man playing the piano at nighttime in reception he makes the words up as he goes along! The locaton wasnt ideal and a little out of the way but its ok if you just want to relax. The one thing that lets the hotel down is the food it did have varitiy and some of it tasted ok but lots of it wasnt cooked and flys around the restaurant all the time did not help either. Overall a nice hotel which is nicely built and decorated let down by the food.

“3.5 stars hotel!”

we were already in Tunisia so we did not expect European 5 stars standard hotel so we were not disappointed.First room we got (no. 135)ground floor was pretty bad and dirty so we asked for new one.Next room (no.3215) was much better(4 stars),so I assume there are also 5 stars rooms in hotel but we did not see them!
Breakfast is average<ham,cheese.eggs,cereal,milk,tea,butter...Never enough brown bread, but you can t stay hungry.Dinner is much better, every night chicken,turkey,beef,fish,salads,...and very nice cakes!
Stuff is very polite,speaking French,English,German..
Pool Area is nice and clean but we preferred beach witch is the biggest plus of the hotel, because of beach we would come again!
We also tried massage(25eur) and hammam with peeling(15eur),it was ok.Thera are golf and minigolf fields,tennis...
Train station is near, you can go to Mahdia,Monastir,Suss...
All in all if you like relaxing holiday Mahdia is perfect place.
We spent really nice time there.

“Lovely hotel - with appalling food and poor service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2010

Just returned from a week at the Mahdia Palace, booked via Thomas Cook.

Let's start with the positives: The hotel is very attractive, and makes a wonderful first impression was you come up the drive and into the reception area. The grounds are well laid out and extremely clean. The pool area has lots of sun loungers, and the beach is compact but immaculate, with soft, white sand and turquoise water. My room was incredibly big and clean, albeit quite basic - but with a strangely luxurious bathroom. And - a big plus for me - the clientele is largely German, French, Italian and Russian. There are very few British people here.

But then there are the negatives: The service was not particularly friendly, either at reception when I arrived, or from the staff. The exception to that being the guy who ran the pool bar, who was charming. But the one over-riding negative for me was the food. The food in the restaurant at both breakfast and dinner was unbelievably, almost comically bad. I'm not a fussy eater. Hot and edible are usually enough to keep me happy. This was neither. And even the presentation left a lot to be desired. The buffet style restaurant was badly laid out so it was a bit of a free-for-all, and the drinks service from the waiting staff was slow and unfriendly. But the food... dear me. After two attempts a breakfast and two attempts at dinner, I decided to abandon my half board status, and eat elsewhere. The snack bar that provided poolside lunches was marginally better, but I didn't venture back into the restaurant for the duration of my stay.

Despite my culinary nightmares, I can't quite justify giving the hotel only 2 stars, as it clearly has a lot going for it. If they could just do something about their restaurant, it could an absolute gem.
