“Nice location but not 4 star hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2010

We just came from this hotel where we stayed in this hotel with three children (4,10, 13 years old).
The good points are -
The location of this hotel is on beautiful clean beach with enough beds and umbrellas. At 6.30 the good spots are already taken but even later you always find some to use. The sea is really clean, sometimes the waves can get bigger.
Its very close to the main pool which is really suitable for small children. The pool is quite clean even the workers usually start to clean it around 9 o clock when some people would like to already use it.
Food is nice, even there is not much selection for breakfast. You can eat lunch at the bar that is close to the beach, there is always good selection for children - every day pizza, pasta, french fries, salads and some BBQ meat. Dinners are in the main restaurant, the food is quite tasty and enough to select from.
The bad points are -
The rooms and the inside of the hotel is old and it doesnt function very well ( handle from the door, closing the door from the balcony)
The hotel staff does not clean enough...especially the pubilic restrooms. Even when they do clean, it appears that rooms and restrooms are dirtier than they are because of the need to refubish.
The beach towells are old and it is a hassle to get them on the first day. We did not get the towell cards like most hotels give, rather we had to made a request at the receprion and for five people got only 2 towells.
If this hotel got upgraded and had refurbishments made, it would be a really nice place to stay.

“A satisfied family”

LOCATION
LTI Mahdia Beach is approximately 1 hour from Monastir airport by bus. Travel agency (we used SATUR) has used new modern buses and minibuses. The hotel complex is in the city outskirts of Mahdia in the touristic zone. It takes 10 minutes to Mahdia centre by taxi (price from 3 TUD to 4 TUD). The hotel complex is situated on the very long beach among many other hotels, with a large beautiful garden.
GENERALY
The hotel is rated as four stars one and it really is. Some things are excellent (staff – except of individuals, food, cleanness of all the complex and pools), some average (furniture in room and bathroom). The hotel is a part of LTI German hotel network, therefore, most of guests are German, but there are also many French, Czechs and Slovaks, some Italians and Russians. For your pleasant stay, I recommend to read hotel´s instructions attentively. They occur in your room.
RECEPTION
It is located in a large lobby. The lobby is furnished in the Arabic style with comfortable armchairs and sofas. There is quiet and pleasant atmosphere. The receptionists are helpful, more of them pleasant and nice. The exchange office, Internet and Telephone is next to the reception. When you intend to send post cards, use the reception.
ROOM AND BATHROOM
We had a room downstairs with a terrace. The room has been in a quiet part of the hotel. It has been nice and clean (cleaning ladies have cleaned it every day, they have been responsible and precise). The furniture is older, the bathroom too. There is TV with German, French and Arabic channels, a fridge and a safe box. The safe deposit box is located in a cupboard in the hallway your room. The keys you get at the reception for a fee.
FOOD AND DRINKS
We were really satisfied with food and drinks through our stay. The main restaurant is huge and clean. You have large option of different kinds of meals. The food is served by buffet (Swedish) tables. There are a lot of fruit and vegetable salads. We are persuaded, everybody can choose the preferred. All the meals are really great. The waiters are polite, we have had positive experience with them. You can use a wine bar in the lobby and a bar next to a pool too. They are free of charge. More bartenders are nice and smiling. You can use a snack bar next to the pool and another located in the eastern part of the complex. They are also free of charge. Bottled water is available in the main restaurant, the snack bars and the bars. You take it to your room as much as you want.
POOLS
There is one pool inside and another large one with the bar outside. The bar offers cocktail drinks, beer and cola. Children can use both pools, they are cleaned every day in the morning. You can´t use them during evening and night because, they are disinfected. They are very nice. You can find a lot of sunshades and sun beds on the grass around the pools, so you have a lot of space. Beach towels are free of charge and you can replace them daily next to an entrance to the beach. Animators organise various water activities (water polo, water aerobic, ...). Music plays near the pool all day, but it was pleasant for us.
BEACH
You can get on the beach by a path, through the hotel´s garden. It takes 5 minutes from the reception. The beach is beautiful, water warm and clean. There are a lot of sunshades and sun beds on the beach, but I recommend you, to take them in early morning. They are free of charge. The beach is patrolled by hotel´s security guards. There are a lot of waste baskets on the beach, gardeners clean them every day, but there was waste sometime (cigarette ends, plastic bags, ...)

“Not very good”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2010

We got a great "last minute" deal from Germany to Tunisia, and we got what we paid for. This hotel does not rate it's 4-star rating. The room was dirty; the rugs had a lot of old sand from previous guests. We had to consistently ask the staff to clean our room; they only gave us soap if we asked for it, and only replaced our towels if we asked in person (towels left on the floor were, well, left on the floor). All 3 of our beds were worn out; the springs in the mattresses no longer had any life. The staff was also hit or miss: some were very friendly, others either indifferent or rude. The food was ok, but virtually the same meals were served everyday for every meal. The beach is very nice, but as we went in Feb, we did not swim. The outdoor pools were also closed, but the indoor pool was very warm. On the plus side, you are very close to some great historical locations like El Jem. Bottom line: 4-star lobby with 1-star rooms and 2-star food.

“I expected better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2009
1

I read all of your reviews, I was a bit concerned about the food and about the staff... Let's start from the beginning.

August is a hot month in Tunisia so if you don't react well to a lot of heat, you should pick another month. Most healh problems come from heatstroke so be carefull how you expose yourself to the sun.

At first view the hotel and its garden is delightful, a lot of trees, the hotel has plenty room for leisure, sofas, however it has few chaise longues on the beach and near the pool.

The sand is fine and white, the water is not deep nor is that from the pool and the hotel looks like a sand castle. The food is ok, it repreats pretty often but it's way better than that from the restaurant a-la-carte. We went there one evening with Mediteranean specific and honestly, I would have enjoyed the meal better at the main restaurant. This restaurant offers a beautiful view - as it ib built above the snack bar - and more privacy but the food is not that great.

I didn't like the hours set for the meals, lunch was too close to breakfast and the snack bar was...really for snacks and drinks.

I DID NOT LIKE the fact that the workers were not very clean, I mean the chairs from the snack bar were full of sand and the tables were not clean, I had to do it myself in order to eat at one table. Also, I din't like the room I was in - 3251 - (it was in the wing near the bar from the hotel lounge area ) it was very noisy, the view was apalling - so give a tip to get a room with view to the beach or inside the hotel garden. The hotel is very poorly phonic isolated..so don't get your hopes up that you could take a nap in the afternoon...or just when it's too hot to stay outside.

Also the cleaning personnel did not supply the rooms with soap, shower gell, clean towels - we had to ring the reception...and indeed they did not understood English. So learn or practice French!

I was very dissapointed by our trip to Mahdia - 5 KM away. Went there by taxi - normally it's 2-3 dinars - and we visited Medina in search for suvenirs and clothes. I did not like the way they negociate, they get upset, they even swear when you ask for the right price. So, before you visit the town you should go to Yasmin Shopping Center near the hotel and the other stores placed on the other side, the one with Zoo Garden. These are stores with fixed prices and after this you will know which is the right price for everything. You can reach these stores by foot! Near the Hotel there's nothing to see and the surounding is a bit depressing, people are really poor in these areas.

The shows they perform every night are laim, I had fun at Mr Mahdia Beach...but I was really sad to find out that the Disco was not included in "all inclusive" and you had to pay 4 the drinks. I get it that they don't really understand the notion of "All Inclusive". Anyhow...at the Disco there were few people (i could count them on my fingers) and when i went there they were playing Rap.

From all the signs, LTI Mahdia Beach is mostly a hotel for families, for people with children, because they suck at entertainig. And, believe me, there were a lot of people with small children (2 - 6 years old).

What else ... well it's been a fun holiday... I expected better, but it was fine in the end. The key is to have the right company and enjoy a different culture and surroundings.

“Good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2009

LOCATION
LTI Mahdia Beach is just 1 hour far from Monastir airport by travel agency bus. It is in the city outskirts of Mahdia and just 10 minutes to Mahdia city centre by taxi (3DIN in night, 4DIN during the day). The hotel is situated on the very long beach between many other hotels. So on the beach whenever you turn left or right you can see hundreds of sunshades many kilometers away. The weather was also very windy in June. But the most important thing is that the beach is beautiful.

GENERAL
It is rated as four stars hotel and it really is. Some things are excellent, some average. But for the little price we paid on last minute, it was great value.
Hotel is part of LTI German hotel network, so all the staff speaks at first German, but they understand and can talk English a little.
Most of the guests are German, but there are also many French, Czech and Slovaks. Some Italian and Russians.

RECEPTION
They are helpful, but not very nice. In fact almost nobody from hotel staff never smiles on you (except cleaning ladies and animators) and they are not very polite. So you don't feel very comfortable in Tunisia. Expect the same behavior in Mahdia city, and from taxi drivers. I think they don't like western foreigners at all and tolerate them in their country just for the money.

POOL
Pool is one inside and one very big outside. You have a big bar for cocktail drinks only (no beer) in it. Anyway it looks big, but there is only one bartender in do corner, so you have to go there and wait for your drink and after than you can sit anywhere else. There is also a bridge, little water for children and so on. It is very clean and nice. In the night the pool area is very dark.
Near the pool there is also snack bar where you some soup and pancakes and a beer.
You can find many sunshades and sun beds on the grass around the pool so you have a lot of space. What surprises me was the fact that you have to pay for the mattresses 1,5DIN for a day. Towels are free of charge and you can replace them daily as usual in other hotels.
All the day the music plays near the pool, usually '80 style, but also Arabic and German. Afternoon it was sometimes very loud and offensive.

BEACH
I love the white sand and the water. It reminds me more Caribic than Middaterean. So it is really very beautiful.
There is a fence around the beach and you have only one entrance to the beach. I think the only reason is that the beach is almost neverending so it is limiting other people from other hotels and locals to enter LTI hotel area.

ROOM
Room is nice, but you see it is little bit old, the bed and furniture, the toilet and bathroom. It is clean but not 5 star standard. You have a TV with 10 German channels and 1 French channel. We had a big balcony also.
There are only 3 plugs in your room (one used for TV and another for fridge, it means you have only one free). If I can advice take a plug duplex.

FOOD & DRINKS
The main restaurant is huge and you have many variety of meals, white and red wine, bear, post mix drinks.
If you are not the first for the lunch or dinner the sheets on the tables are sometime little bit dirty. You also have to take the fork, knife and the drinks by yourself and you are not served. But again the most important is that all the meals are really great! Waitresses are also not smiling but Khouda Safoun is nice, smiling all the time and talking to you.
We tried also Tunisian Restaurant (all inclusive), it is located above snack bar and it is very nice with beautiful view on the beach and Mahdia lighthouse at very big distance. But the restaurant itself is really bad, the food is worst than in main restaurant and we were waiting for 1 hour till we got the main meal. Staff is not so friendly especially Riahi Mouna who was really rude and ignoring us all the time.
There are few kinds of cocktails in pool bar, most of them are nothing exciting and very sweet.
In snack bar you can have gin tonic, beer and other drinks except cocktails.
Bottled water is available in each restaurant and wine bar inside the main building and you can take it also to your room as much as you want.
