I first stayed at this resort in july 2011, first impressions were slightly dated and needed some botox, its enormity left it looking like a lump of cement in many areas, the restaurant had a wide range of food, the alcohol was cheap and topped up with post mix that was pure sugar, no fizz and a great way to start your way to getting diagnosed with diabetes. It was packed with tourists at this time, i travel alone and for the entire duration there was always a twenty strong crowd around with me, everyone got on really well, i met a lovely single traveller from germany who kept the sleazy men off my back, he had a fantastic time, plenty to do with all the typical watersports, i went parasailing and loved it. The hotel staff were great especially nabil who i still keep in touch with, they all hang out in cafe majorca across the road, and its great because many of the women who get hassled by men are seen and the hotel boys will see you safely back to the hotel. Entertainment crew were great but i wasnt so keen on their hands all over young girls, the photographers are not to be trusted, they will try to charge ridiculous amounts of money for a set, and they might even ask you to lift your skirt up. The medina is old and very primitive, full of stray starving cats, the shop owners will do their best to intimidate you into buying and they dont let you leave without a purchase, i got stuck in a jewellery store but i had my german friend with me, and just ran out in the end. The beaches are superb, each hotel cleans its section every day. I returned here in august and caught up with tourists i had met in july, some were there for a while and some had returned, there were fewer english this time round, the food was terrible, the hotel wanted to cut back as they were closing for renovations, this left young children unable to eat as there was poor choice and little variety, i knew the restaurant manager from my previous trip and told him i had a bottle of chanel perfume for his wife, i got anything i wanted and gave it out to the families and encouraged them to speak up. To top the lot though, one of the photographers we called the worm asked me to translate to a german couple that he wanted forty pounds for a set of photos, i told the couple they were being ripped off which they knew also, so the worm followed me up to reception and told me he would kill me if i spoke to his client again, we became very good friends and hung around everyday, when the worm had threatened me two girls working on reception heard it, but when i asked for the police all the staff turned ugly, the penalties are very harsh in tunisia and if anything goes wrong dont expect any support from the locals. I made good friends with sue and her daughter jade, who got on the phone to thomas cook and reported what i had been subjected to. I got moved to the riviera hotel in sousse which was a huge sigh of relief. I met a few people here, a man who described himself as an animal, he spent all his time bad mouthing his ex girlfriend, the typical crazy mad sort, on my return he was verbally abusive, told me he heard voices, ate my food then insulted me, then took food from my house to work, accused me of making him sick for smoking cigarettes, dumped all his heavy and dodgy past with women on me, and finally i found out the party i got together were given a different contact number to what he gave me, i kept the other couples fully updated with what he did and now i have nothing to do with any of them. My holidays were fantastic other than the above, a shame about the animal. Enjoy and be careful.
