“A good holiday!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

We stayed at Thalassa from the 23rd-30th of October 2011. Overall, we found the holiday very enjoyable and our only let down was the weather on the last few days due to it being end of season.

Staff-
The staff were amazing! Framissima is the french entertainment team that work at the hotel and are more than eager to cater for the English too. They have a children's club, a person in charge of teenage entertainment, activities throughout the day (e.g water aerobics) and good evening entertainment, baring in mind the majority is in french but it is still enjoyable. The waiters and reception staff were very helpful and efficient although some did not speak good English. The only negative thing to say is that some of the male staff can be very flirtatious with teenage girls and the young women so just be careful!

Food-
As the majority of people that stay at Thalassa are french, the food is not what most English people are used to but is still edible and was freshly cooked with a range of fish and meat. There was also traditional Tunisian dishes to try and there was usually something for vegetarians although it was not always clear if something had meat in.

Accommodation+ Room cleanliness-
The rooms were great with nothing I could personally complain about. The room was exceptionally clean and the maid cleaned every day and gave us fresh towels and bottles of water. The beds and pillows were rather firm and not particularly comfortable but bearable for a week or so. We heard no noise from our room at night.

Location-
The hotel is literally right on the doorstep of a lovely white sanded beach with sunbeds and the warm-ish Mediterranean sea. There is a row of a few shops about 5 minuets walk from the hotel which is mostly supermarkets, a chemist etc. but the main shops are in Mahdia around 20-30 minuets in a taxi which should cost 5 dinar (£2.50) each way. Mahdia is mostly full of tourist shops selling exactly the same thing and the streets are not exactly clean but the market that takes place once a week is very interesting and sells everything you could imagine- and cheaply! One thing to watch out for would be people claiming they work at your hotel (because they have seen your wrist bands!) offering a tour around Mahdia and a man who 'works' in the hotel who will offer to take you to Mahdia but will take you to the leather factory and shops he is involved with to get you to spend money. My advice is to go by taxi and to pretty much ignore them.

Facilities+ Services-
There is a spa in the hotel which seemed to be of good quality but prices are expensive so we didn't bother! There was an indoor pool which was heated and very nice to swim in as-well as a large outdoor pool that wasn't quite as warm! There is a bar open practically all day for alcoholic and soft drinks and a lovely lounge area. There is also a disco held at around 12am. Again, the entertainment team really were good and would do so much to please you and make sure you did not go bored!

Overall, the holiday was brilliant and gave you a chance to just lie in the sun and relax. There was plenty for all of the family to do and there was not much to fault at all!
If you are looking for a hotel with a lot of other English people, this may not be the place for you but it is certainly much more quiet! Also, if you are very fussy about food it may not be a perfect choice but I felt it was a cheap, relaxing, fun holiday and I would most likely consider visiting again. :)

“Nice hotel, good price, food ok, alcohol-flowing”

We thought when we booked this hotel that it was the Mahdia Palace as we had stayed there last year. However, upon arriving in Mahdia we discovered our error. This was a pleasant surprise. The hotel room is basic (IKEA decorated) but nice, the food is average, the people are really what make this hotel a great holiday. The staff pleasant. The dining area very pretty (like eating in a restaurant) plus you can demand an entire bottle of wine at your table if you get the all inclusive. There are alot of kids and it is a little noisy but you can easily avoid them. The rooms were quiet.

For 80 euros a night (double) all inclusive it was very nice .

“Poor and hostile conduct from reception staff and manager”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2010

Dear Mr. Director;

My wife and I are writing to your to register our dismay at the poor reception we received from your staff on 13th of March 2010 at your Hotel.

We were previous and regular client visitors at your hotel since the year 2000 where we normally stayed as independent clients for a period of at least 10 days at Thalassa-Mahdia. The last time we stayed at Thalassa was during March 2007 when we stayed a couple of times for about two weeks. At that time your helpful and competent reception desk Manager was Mr. Houcine Ben Rabah who always pleasantly received us as valuable loyal customers.

Upon arrival to the entrance of Thalassa on 13th of March 27, 2010 we were accosted by a hostile person who claimed to be a guard who would not let us park our car nor tell us where to place the car in order to proceed to the reception desk. This is despite the fact we explain to him we are clients and only wanted to register at the hotel. At your “reception” desk we were first deliberately ignored by your desk attendant and then dealt with in a strange and suspicious manner. In spite of this poor reception conduct we introduced ourselves as previous clients of Thalassa and expressed our desire in staying at the Hotel for a period of 10 days. Unfortunately, this strange and inhospitable behavior continued by your Manager who arrogantly acted as a police officer warning us of a traffic violation.

It is indeed regrettable and shameful when employees of the so called Hospitality Industry conduct themselves in this fashion towards clients. We were offended and obliged to leave your Hotel for this poor and hostile conduct of your staff.

I trust you have a concern about the reputation and integrity of your hotel establishment and conduct of its staff toward clients. Hence, I am calling your attention to this poor and hostile conduct of your staff and requesting your investigation this offensive conduct.

We are anticipating your explanation and apology for this outrageous conduct of your staff.
This letter was e-mailed to the hotel on 27 March 2010 and no response was received despite many reminders.E-mail address sent to [--]

“Good hotel, lovely beach”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2008

Just returned from hotel thalassa in Mahdia. Clean hotel, good variety of food (lovely salads and desserts). Lovely beach - white clean sand - sea lovely to swim in. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful particularly the animation team and they never insisted that we take part in anything if we didn't want to. Reception staff a bit unfriendly at times. Not too much for our teenage children to do at night - no games room or billiard tables so that was a bit dissapointing but great for small kids as there is a mini-club. I recommend this hotel for anyone wanting a quiet relaxing holiday but just watch out for being talked into going on town visits with a guide as you'll end up in carpet and jewellery shops (unless that's what you want). About deck chairs at the pool - well don't worry about all those "6am chair reservers" who reserve their chair and then go off to the beach for the day and only return at 5pm!! We just asked the lifeguard to bring us chairs and we didn't have a problem.
