“Great hotel. Poor area.”

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel in September all inclusive. We arrived around 9pm and dinner was already over they had saved us bread and cheeses to eat but not much more. We were shown to our room which had adequate facilities however we had requested a sea view and got a dirt track. We asked at reception and they were MORE than happy to change our room and were extremely helpful.
The hotel itself was extremely clean staff on hand 24/7 to ensure this.
The food was buffet style every meal with a variety of choices available every day. There is also a pool barbecue, an a la carte and traditional Cous cous restaurant. Alcohol beverages were limited in variety but available all day and the local Bouka is very nice!
The facilities in the hotel were quite good having its own private beach and two pools. The animation team were still very lively despite it being slightly out of season. They had a form of entertainment every night at the outside bar. The last night the owner of the hotel himself performed a big show which was really good he is also very friendly and is keen to talk to guests when he sees you in the hotel.
We also went quadbiking and camel riding which we bought from excursion touts around the pool. These too were excellent activities and do not be afraid to haggle prices!
The local area was limited. No bars or restaurants. However shops in the village 5 min walk up the road are good for buying Tunisian pottery/ souvenirs etc zarzis town 15 mins by taxi however u only pay equivalent to £2.50. Well worth a visit.
The ONLY problem we found with the hotel is lack of English. This was the first year of English tourism. The staff were very willing to Learn! And if somebody didn't understand somebody else will come along and help. Because of this we found it was very catered towards French tourists but the more English who go the better it will get!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, would recommend it and advise that 1 weeks stay is adequate enough to do all the activities you wish! :)

“Average at best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

Just had a week here, and that really was enough. We arrived at night and was shown to the restaurant before checking in as it was close to closing which was a nice touch. After checking in we were shown our room which was adequate for 2 adults and 2 kids with a garden view (a couple of trees infront of a fence), could have asked to be moved but rooms are only for sleeping and changing in so didnt bother. Bar staff very friendly and tried very hard with their English. The entertainment team work very hard at trying to get you involved, the photographers got abit annoying taking your picture at every given oppurtunity especially if you have a pretty teenage girl with you! During the day the snack bar food was great for the kids but they struggled in the evening and ended up having bread and water for 2 evening meals. Hotel is very big and they keep it very clean but tiles are very slippy when wet and beware of the broken ones around the pool. The evening entertainment was french orintated with no music inbetween the sets which was disappointing. The beach was nice but abit smelly when seaweed mounted up, theres only certain times when they can return it to the sea though. We booked a 2 hr camel/horse ride..enjoyed it but sitting on a camel for an hr..I was walking like John Wayne for 2 days!! If you walk up the beach to the left of the hotel you will find a guy called Moez who will take you quadding cheaper than the hotel offers, hes a really nice guy and speaks good english! Barter with the jetskiing guys and you will get a good deal also. If you turn right out of the hotel there is a short walk to some shops, if you dont want to barter go into the fixed price shops or better still wait until u get to the airport theres alot more choice. The location is fine if all you want is a hotel and beach but nothing else to see or do unless you book the trips. I didnt feel as safe in Tunisia as I did in Egypt and its not a country I will be going back to.

“A nice surprise”

We have stopped at this resort on the way from Tunis and arrived at night. The welcome was good and the place was very comfortable. We enjoyed the swimming pool, the beach and the entertainment. The price was the best surprise, half-board for about 70 dinars. The staff was very nice and the food was above average for the place. The hotel is not new, the rooms are comfortable but not very large and the bathrooms need renovation. The hotel services are sufficient but the position is far from the centre of the village. Taxis are cheap and can get you anywhere on a day trip. Highly reccomended. The few shops in the hotel offer a reasonable choice.

“Great Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

Stayed here for 14 nights Aug/Sep 2011. Hotel in good condition with full amenities. Food good and plentiful. Location not to good unless you just want to stay in the hotel or its adjacent beach. No nightlife outside.

Ther is a alaCarte restaurant which you can use one per week of your stay. However book with the head waiter well in advance as we tried for our last night but was told it was not open as there was a Tunisian themed night being held.

Expect a hard sell from the licensed touts. They dont give up. Having said that enjoyed the Quad bike activity but found out later could have got similar on newer quads for half the price from a guy who has his pitch on the beach toward the "old beached ship". You will see it easily.

Because this is essentially a Thomas Cook Village (French Company) most of the evening entertainment is biased toward a French customer. Having said that the entertainment team are all good and work non stop.

Hired a car for a day and went inland to Matmata (Star Wars scenery) and then into the Sahara. Again dont be suprised when someone knocks on your window offering their guide services. Found I had to be very abrupt to get them to go away. If you do take a guide get an agreed price first and dont expect them to stick to the deal. They always ask for more at the end of a tour.

In summary, great hotel and clean beach. Good food and local beer was refreshing. Local spirits left a bit to be desired.

If you are into exploring then 10 nights will be enough.

“Our girls both cried when it was time to leave”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2011

We have just got back from a 2 week summer holiday at the Eden Star hotel Zarzis and thought it was excellent value for money. It was lovely and hot during the day bit cool and not humid at night time. We had only booked one room so thought the 4 of us sharing might be a squash but we were given 2 inter connecting double rooms both with balconies so we had plenty of room. It was quite noisy in the evenings until the entertainment ends at about 11 o' clock as the stage is open air in the middle of the complex so the rooms at the back are quieter but then dont overlook the pools. The entertainment team were excellent and worked so hard all day doing all the activities and then all evening doing the mini disco and then the show at 9.30. They run a fantastic kids club for younger children and will take them all day long and give them back after dinner! We have 2 girls (10 and 15) who joined in archery, aqa aerobics in the pool and sea, pool games, water polo, gymnastics and all the club dances. Hardly anyone speaks english so it's brilliant if your children are doing a French GCSE, and all the staff, waiters, cooks, cleaners and animateurs were really friendly and smiley! Food was a good spread for breakfast including fresh fruit and freshly squeezed orange juice; we had lunch at pool bbq which was chips, pizza or pita bread sandwhiches (all freshly baked) or there was the option of the buffet for lunch. The evening buffets were themed and we usually ate outside in the breeze. Before dinner you can go onto the terrace for a drink, olives and nibbles. The drinks were local spririts and quite sweet cocktails so we stuck to beer, red wine and coke, but there were plenty of big bottles of water and the coffee's at the pool bar were lovely. The beach has plenty of very comfortable sunbeds, beach towels need a deposit of 10euros each but do take euris as the hotel will accept and they are much easier to get then dinar. The beach is lovely, nice for walking along, camels waiting on the beach with arabian horses waiting to be ridden along with all the usual water sports (jet skiing, bannana boating etc.) payable locally. We had a wonderful time and we are hoping to go back again next year!!
