“Homely and Friendly Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2011

Just spent a week from 26/02/11 to 04/03/11. Room excellent with balcony overlooking swimming pool, fridge and T.V. with en-suite (good shower with plenty of hot water). Rooms cleaned daily - flowers on bed nice touch! Staff extremely friendly and helpful with good english. Breakfast a lovely surprise with freshly squeezed orange juice, boiled egg, yoghurt, bread, cake and croissants. The weather was quite cold so room not very warm even though heating was on. I would highly recommend this hotel. At least two lovely restaurants within five minute walk - fresh fish delicious! Margaret and Keith (Ireland)

“Fantastic Hotel. Great Value and Excellent Friendly Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2010

We stayed here for over 2 weeks, and felt very comfortable and well care for.
(Unlike the previous review, we had valuables in our room and nothing was taken). The maid makes patterns on the bed everyday with fresh flowers.

The rooms are large and we had a fridge and balcony. Lighting is a little dim with low wattage bulbs. Shower was great and lots of hot water.

The hotel is kept very clean and we always had lots of towels. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

The beach across the road is nice and has a beach bar. The hotel can book all the Tunisian internal travel you need.

The terrace and restaurant are good, but be aware they only serve draught beer on the alcohol menu, I wished they served wine.
It has free WiFi in the restaurant.

Down the street are 2 good restaurants, the 'Black and White' and 'Malibu'. (Opposite the 'Bel Azur'.
The pool looked good but at this time of year we didn't go in it.
The hotel has a nice general store for essentials and souvenirs etc.

In Hammamet centre, be aware that the only booze store is closed on Fridays. Our side trips to Carthage and Sidi Bou Said were also great and arranged by the hotel, with a car and driver for the day for 60 Dinar. (£30).
(Watch for pickpockets in the Tunis Medina, which is very hectic...)

Cabs in to the Hammamet Medina (town centre) are 1.800 T Dinar on the meter. 3TD if no meter, so ask for the meter to be turned on. It's about 2 km and is an easy and interesting walk, if you go on the main street, not the beach road.

A trip to Yasmine Hammamet is good if you like big 'Vegas-style' hotels etc. We took a little train-tram from the Medina (5 TD each way).

'Non Merci became a constant expression in the Hammamet Medina, as there is quite a bit of 'Touting', but just be firm and polite.
The Tunisians are a very friendly people, and speaking a bit of French is handy to have.
A popular 'tout' is "Hey do you recognise me, I'm a waiter in your hotel". I just said, "I'm not staying in a hotel"

Great place and beautiful country.

The 3 brothers that run/own the hotel (Erida, Heike and Sammi), are excellent guys and guides. Anything you need, just ask. Sammi took us back to Tunis airport for 66 TD.

Altogether we highly recommend the Residence Romane, and will be returning next year in September when it's a bit warmer.

“THINGS DISSAPEAR AND THEN THEY DON'T CLEAN YOUR ROOM!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2010

I stayed with two friends in Residence Romane for ten days in October.
They don't change towels and sheets everyday. Bathroom could be in better conditions and much cleaner. We found a cockroach in our room, a big one.
Staff was very friendly, but I can't find it useful if it's going to happen what happened to us:
We had a package, but as long as we wanted to go to the south for a few days we sleep out for three days leaving in the room part of our stuff.
When we came back I notice that a scarf of mine has dissapeared. The thing is I know exactly where it was: Rolled inside a bag, inside the cupboard. My guess is someone in the hotel gets things, but not too much, so sometimes people don't realice, sometimes people doubts if they could have loose things themselves. I'm positive about what happened to me: Someone stole it.
When I told the hotel crew, I said I didn't want to make any noise about it, but only get back my scarf (it was a very appreciate souvenir for another travel), And they told me they would speak with the cleaning lady.
The next day, we had our room undone and uncleaned. When we asked why, the manager said that it was because he didn't anyone to touch anything before he spoke with the cleaning lady, that was on her day off. So we've been stoolen and now we have a dirty room and no compensation.
By the way. I never assumed that the cleaning lady had to be the person that got my scarf. There's plenty of people that could have got it.
The day after, the manager sent the cleaning lady to our room and she was trying to tell me that she looked around the room and didn't find the scarf. Isn't it funny?
As long as the cleaning lady didn't speak english or spanish and we spoke only a little french, she called the manager. I told him I was angry because he didn't was supossed to send me the cleaning lady, and he was the one that should solve the problem.
Then, he told me RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE LADY that if I wanted to, I could go to the police and report the cleaning lady. I told him that as long as I didn't know who did it, I will report the hotel. I thing this was an outrageous situation, very unfair for us and for the cleaning lady, and of course I dindn't got my scarf back, and I don't have the feeling that the hotel did much to find it.
So, be careful with your stuff and don't leave things you like alone. Only inside your suitcase well closed, or stay anywhere else.

“Excellent value, Great service, Friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

If you are looking for a 4 or 5 star luxury resort on the beach this hotel is not for you but please read on you might reconsider.
.
We were attracted to this hotel by the good reviews of previous clients on Trip Advisor and it more than met our expectations. The fact it was the only hotel in Hammamet without a single negative review was very well deserved.

It is a small family run hotel managed by three brothers who are always around. The staff are super friendly, always have a nice smile for you and provide excellent service.

We were a bit concerned at first because the price was about half of other hotels and internet pictures are sometime deceiving but we were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and upkeep of the hotel. It must be the best value for money of any hotel we stayed at over the last 10+ years of holiday travel.

The hotel's restaurant serves the same kind of food as most other restaurants in the area, the quality of the food is as good if not better and the prices are lower in many cases.

A small example of the personalized service you receive at this hotel happened one evening when we ordered some lemonade, which is made with freshly squeezed lemons and not over-sweetened, and which became our favourite refreshing drink. The waiter apologized because they had run out of lemonade so we ordered something else. To our surprise he appeared 10 minutes latter with 2 large glasses of lemonade and when we looked surprised he explained that the owner went to his house next door and made us some lemonade. I don't think you will get this kind of attentive service in a big chain hotel.

Even though the hotel does not have direct access to the beach, it is not too far and you can easily walk to it in about 5 minutes.

“Excellent value, friendly staff, good find.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2010

Just returned from a week's stay and really enjoyed it. It's a small hotel with 24hr reception, pool and restaurant. It's extremely clean with flowers put on your bed every day, a lovely touch. The breakfast is rather sugar laden and juices very sweet but certainly gets you going for the day. All the staff are very friendly and helpful and speak good english, which was good for us as our french is non existent! It's about a 20 min walk to the Medina, taxi's are cheap but do insist that the meter is turned on first.

Not all the rooms have balcony's but those that don't have large window's that slide wide open. The hotel doesn't have an alcohol license so doesn't serve alcohol at all but you can drink in your room should you wish to do so and there are other hotel bars nearby. TV, fridge, room safe and air conditioning are all available at a small extra charge.

I would definitley recommend this hotel for couples and solo travellers but there isn't a great deal for children or teenagers to do.
