“Pizza, pizza and more pizza!”

We looked at trip advisor after booking this holiday and so we were a little apprehensive about going when we saw what people had written. Actually we were mildly surprised when we arrived. The hotel was generally clean and tidy, we certainly didn't have a dirty room and had no problems with toilet, bath or shower but we were on the ground floor. The maid was very polite and helpful as were all the staff, even those on reception. Although it did take 3 days to get the toilet seat fixed.

Tunisia is a 3rd world muslim country so we weren't expecting beans, egg & bacon for breakfast and yes continental breakfast every day for a fortnight can be a little tiresome, some toast wouldn't have gone a miss though. Unfortunately we also had arrived during the final days of Rammadan so the staff were fasting during daylight hours and then having to serve us food. We went half board and were disappointed there were no snacks available around the pool so we made cheese rolls at breakfast and snook them out or else we had to go down the road about half a mile to the beach cafe to get lunch.

Having been warned that the hotel was mainly Italian tourists didn't put us off but some recognition of the small number of english tourists would have been welcome. There wasn't even a flag outside.
On the only organised tour we went on there were 2 bus loads of Italians and the 3rd bus was made up of half dozen English people, the rest were German & Polish speaking so we had English/German and Polish interpreters on our bus and everything took too long to be explained.

We also took a so called 'camel caravan' excursion run by a Tunisian from the hotel but all his promises of 3 hours in paradise and Atlas mountains were a pack of lies. We only went outside Hammamet about 4 kilometres doing a camel ride around the farmland and the carriage being pulled by the poor horse had only 3 or it's original 4 tyres on it. It was a health and safety nightmare,

Overall our experience was ok but we certainly won't be going back or recommending it to our friends.,

“not catered for the british”

we went to this hotel with four children we went half board which was a waist of time because none of us liked the food, there was no food suitable for younger children it was also cold. there was not enough room for our family to eat at the same table so we had to split up and go different tables and we didnt know what half the food was, as there was no ENGLISH choice there was only wine and water at dinner if you were half board, we ate out alot of the time as we didnt like much of the food. The animation team were very good but they were very limited on the entertainment that they gave us, the entertainment area which was outside was not suitable as we got biten also it was not suitable for children to walk past the pool (100m) at night time to get a drink or use the toliet also near the pool was very slippy. The pool was good for the children in the day and the animation team were very helpful and do alot of activities in the day. The hotel is located 3 miles from hammamet and hammamet yasmin. The room was standard but could of been bigger. Its not a place for the english as they didnt seem to cater much for us and we couldnt understand much of the entertainment, i would say its more for the italians. we wouldnt go there again as we were quite shocked at the hotel as it didnt cater us and was not for children. Thank god we met other english people there who were friendly and helpful. i would say this hotel is a 2 star hotel not a four star at all.

“Not enough British guests”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

I have just arrived back to the UK after spending 14 nights at this hotel. I had read reviews on this place after booking my holiday, I use the reviews as a guideline to what I may expect but I do judge a hotel for myself.
The company we booked for the transfer had sent a driver who had no idea where the hotel was and my partner had to direct him to the hotel which led us to arrive at the Serail later than we expected. On arrival at the hotel my first impression of it was very very nice, the reception area was clean but a little dark, the receptionist was polite and fast in checking us in and we promptly got shown our room. The room was lots better than we had expected, we had a large lounge and a separate bedroom which was very clean.the bathroom was ok but the glasses were a bit grubby and the washbasin didnt look like it had been cleaned.
The toilet was a lot to be desired and the flushing system very poor.
At midnight we went to get a drink from the bar but got told the bar closes at midnight and no drink was to be had,we asked if we could exchange some money but the Serail doesnt change money at that time of night,so we went to the Cheers bar around the corner and they changed us some money and served us with a drink.
The next morning we went to breakfast which was a buffet style with a range of various foods, boiled eggs, cereals, fruit etc.
The water in the boiler was lukewarm so a decent cup of tea was never to be had and it was the same with the coffee.
The evening meal was originally outside which after queuing went cold very fast.
Lots of food was layed on for the guests but unfortunately there were a lot of guests who just piled their plates up with food which caused other guests to wait until fresh food came out.
After a few days the food was to be eaten inside because of the weather and at dinner times it was bedlam with other guests pushing and shoving to pile their plates up.
I personally didnt like the food that much but that was my choice whether to eat it,I did like the crepes we had for breakfast.
On some of the reviews I had read did state that the British people are not made welcome at this hotel, I found that exactly correct but not by the staff but by other guests.
I couldnt fault the staff they were all friendly and did make us welcome and we had lots of fun with some of them.
The entertainment at this hotel probably was very good if only we could have understood what they were saying as majority of the language spoken by them was in Italian and not much English.
We mentioned to various staff and management that the British people didnt seem to be made welcome by the other guests.
I think this hotel does need to cater more for the British people and not concentrate just on 1 nationality.
The shower in our room was not very good regarding hot water and pressure between 5-6.15 most nights we could only get a trickle of water through

Would I return to this hotel??? Yes I would but only if they catered more for the British

Hi all.
My review is honest & aimed at helping others decide from themselves if they should stay in the Hotel Serial while in Hammamet Tunisia (from my experience).
We were amongst the many unfortunate's that suffered the Goldtrail demise, We had Atol protection, our money was safe, so i booked a holiday to Tunisia with the same company on the same timeline rather than lose out on time booked off work.
It was a package holiday per say, but sort of made to mesure too.
I booked within 14 days of holiday - I had gained fair knowladge of the country from my brother who had been to Port El Kantaoui before. After booking, i checked out the hotel on tripadviser, and my heart sank, reviews were not good. I serious reservations.
On Sep 1st Am - We travelled to Montasir Airport, and just to let you know transfares from here to Hammamet region is 110 minutes! & 115 to Yasmin Hammamet & 140ish to Port El Kantaoui so its long! dont let anyone tell you otherwise! You can only buy TND currency in Tunisia, to date its 1.86 TND to €1 and a tiny fraction more in STG£, dont allow anone to assist you at airport unless you want to pay/tip them! duplicate all your flight/hols documents as they have a habit of taking them & you could have issues with reconformation bookings for tranfares etc, i seen utter bedlam occuring to others because of this reason, know your transfare company & dont get in vehicle unless its logo is all over bus/taxi, (i seen this happen too) arrived finally at hotel first impressions good, (remember, this is a non EU country & a developing one at that, so stars will not match up to EU star standerds) man at reception fair english, but i speak french which is a 2nd language spoken there so not much of a language barrier for me. room on 1st floor 100+, walked in - clean bedlinen, balcony, tv, telephone, lounger, toilet, bathshower A/C dial. thats it. Just ok, cleaners do try hard, put towels in swan shapes on bed with hibiscus flowers strewn on bed & in bathroom on your arrive, & on occasion throughout your stay. Problems. bath not great, wouldent use it, shower was hand held, toilet stank of foul gas, was so bad it made me phyiscaly sick on day 5, tiles in room can be v dangerous if feet/shoes are damp, damp on bedroom roof & bad in bathroom walls. 1st floor terrible noisy, from water pipes to people in corridor to people shuffelling round the floor above,it may seriously annoy those looking for tranquility or peace, request top floor to avoid this. Value for money? NO! we paid full board DO NOT GO MORE THAN HALF BOARD ITS NOT WORTH IT! just dont! Meals - well nothing foodwise is described or has a title. always buffet style. Breakfast, most foods have meat/chicken/fish within, but they do an assortment of croissants, cereals, fruit salad & tunisian yougurts wich i stuck to, & were nice. lunch was hot & cold dishes, some mediterriaian, some tunisian, always loads of differing salads, i stuck to salads & rice, nice. Dinner plenty of hot dishes, we again stuck with rices, chips tunisian salads & Brik (do try) & non meat foods, desserts are so pretty but we never got them... why, well heres why. no control, meal times are open, 1st come 1st served 1 peticular nationality which was 97% of the hotels guests would plate starter main & dessert in one go, no system in force for fairness, it was always kamakasi style Q'ing (or rather not Q'ing) - it was rediculous! manners is an admirable trait & should be universal, it was infuriating every mealtime the same. full board my eye!. you get brekie, lunch, dinner and water (at meals only) & two glasses of house wine (at meals only). thats all, you've been warned ! entertainment team (Animation) are nice, but their shows/games/theams are all in italian & italian only, not much english is spoken in this hotel so be aware of that. 1 male member of reception was very gender bias, and insulted my gender openly on an occasion my partner & i were talking & unsure of a appointment time between ourselves near the desk, he commented that in the west its different, but men in tunisia had all athority & women have no right of opinion! this is compleatly discriminatory & wholey offensive! I Ignored him for the duration & made a complaint, though i know maybe it was pointless. hotel pool beautiful, spa good, nice beauty staff, they try to relate to you, grounds pretty, loads of pool loungers, music & pool cafe bar, nice cappuchinos & esspressos made with lavazzo italian coffie, Th`e menth is nice after food. Full range of drinks At Cafe/pool bar, try their own variations of spirits & liquers first, not bad when mixer added. Yasmin Hammamet lovley about 4/5 miles from hotel, 4 TND one way in taxi, taxi sit outside hotel gate, very accesable (€2 or £1.80) Marina beautiful, Medina Shopping centre good, haggle hard folks or you'll get ripped off, dont go into shops unless you know your going to buy somthing, dont let them walk behind you, stop dead & look at them, they will back off, be firm, somtimes you will need to be bordering rude! know the value of TND and your own currency for good bartering. Shakespears english bar round corner do grub, great comedy drag acts on fri's & tue's nites, fab laugh! also go left at hotel gate theres an italian resturant straight accross road do great pizzas & chips or brik and chips. we went on sahara experience cost TND 175 (approx €90 or £78) for two days & 1 nite stay 2 mins from sahara GO! its utterly fantastic, have magical memories despite the 800mile journey! plus it was nice not to have to battle for food for 2 days...Serial hotel does not cater for wide range of holidaymakers, just 1 nationality - this is a managment issue i feel is delibrate, and so much so, i feel that it should state this clearly, so people can be aware and prepared, its not catering multi-national - So with that, the decision is yours..... .

“Be Aware! Checkout what all inclusive means?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2010

The hotel is very nice, the staff are alright but the all inclusive meaning is utter rubbish. It is more a full board hotel not all inclusive thats for sure!! the wine at meal times is disgusting. The beer at meal times isn't too bad but local and leaves you bloating a bit in the small time your allowed to drink it. Other than meal times you get sangria with no alcohol in that when you sat drinking it for a while you are just stone cold sober feeling sick! No spirits at all anywhere at anytime. If you do fancy a drink take a couple of bottles off the plane with you. You're not even allowed to buy soft drinks for mixers and take them in the hotel. Or at least dont let them see you! Saying all that though the hotel itself was ok but full of italians. If you don't drink and like italians then i'm sure you'll have a good time!
