We have travelled to many different countries and been to Africa before (Morocco, Kenya and Tanzania) but never Tunisia and wanted to experience something different to a typical European beach holiday. If, like us, you like to immerse yourself into local culture and experience the real country you're visiting rather than going to a characterless, purpose built all-inclusive place where you could be in any hot country with lots of tourists from back home(like Jasmine Hammamet - awful resort!), then this hotel is the place for you! We absolutely loved it - very close to the beach 4-5 minutes walk down a tree-lined alleyway with bougainvillea lining the walls; friendly beach-side cafe serving beers, paninis, salads etc.; hotel has a lovely a la carte restaurant serving typical local dishes and more Western food if preferred; excellent attentive friendly staff, very clean rooms, towels changed every day; good basic breakfast (croissants, pain au chocolate, french bread, jam, butter, spready cheese triangles, coffee, tea, fruit juice) and for an additional small charge, fresh fruit and cooked options (omelettes, bacon, eggs etc.) were available; very convenient currency exchange facility at the hotel reception. The hotel seemed to be in a more prosperous area, about a 40 minute walk from Hammamet town. There were many very good restaurants in close proximity serving very good food and wine - our particular favourites were Das Kais, ZoZos, Bella Marina and Cascades (although this restaurant doesn't serve alcohol). Over our two week stay, we also did many of the very interesting cultural and sightseeing trips on offer through TTS, one of the local tourism companies, who were very professional and reliable. Even if you only go for a week and can only fit in one trip we strongly recommend the 2 day Sahara Explorer excursion as you get to see so much of the country and experience such diversity in terrain, culture, people and scenery. If there were any slight downsides, or things to be aware of, they were VERY minor: the beds in the hotel were too soft for me (but not for my boyfriend as he found them very comfortable!); yes there is quite a lot of rubbish around the resorts and the countryside but we were reliably informed that this has only happened since the revolution in January because the Department of the Environment has ceased a lot of cleaning services until a new government is in power (elections on 23rd October); we found haggling a bit awkward, but that's because we personally don't enjoy doing it, but there are a lot of fixed price shops where you are not put under any pressure to buy anything and you can buy at your leisure; also be wary of anyone in Hammamet town who tries to convince you they work in your hotel so that they can get money out of you - we found it funny so they very quickly got the message that we weren't easily convinced but some tourists must get conned as the locals keep on doing it; also we wouldn't walk along the beach after dark because it was not illuminated but then we wouldn't necessarily do that in a lot of countries. We would highly recommend this hotel for couples and solo travellers (men or women - there were a few single women who stayed and/or ate at our hotel and they didn't seem to get any unwanted attention or hassle) and for people who want to have a real experience of Tunisia! All in all the best holiday we have ever had and would definitely go back to this hotel!
Room Tip: Ask for a poolside view if you prefer a quiet room.
