We stayed at the bel in jan [our 5th stay there ] due to the troubles our holiday was cut short two weeks instead of five .Although the hotel is getting old looking now i believe they are having a make over [ as they now say lol] which will bring it more up to date please get rid of the center piece so out of date. The staff as per were great we even had a smile off the man who changes the money .We had to change hotels one day before we left which seemed daft over to the sol next door felt VERY sorry for the staff as it seems they were layed off that night . We both hope that things calm down over there and the people get what they want to be treated fairly we have many local friends there now room was always cleaned every day as i said will be going back next year hopefully

“Keep away from this hotel and the thieving staff”

I sent a review about our ruined holiday at the Bel Azur in Novenber but it has not been displayed. We were treated appallingly by the management when we complained after money was stolen from our room.

“NEVER AGAIN!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2011

I booked this holiday in October via thomas cook after reading all the reviews. I paid £760 in total for 1 week, half board. I noticed a couple of bad reviews but generally overall they didn't appear to be too bad. So I thought it might be ok.
When we arrived at the hotel you are greated with an awful sewage/eggy smell, not very pleasant and the the reception area is very tired and needs a lot of attention. We received a welcome drink as we missed dinner which I thought was a nice gesture and that maybe it wasn't as bad as it looked. However it got worse, the marble floors throughout the hotel were cracked, aswell as in my room along with some missing bath panel tiles. The bath itself was dirty and the cleaner never cleaned around the sink area as my partner spilt a bit of hair gel on the tap on the first morning and it was still there by the end of our stay. The walls are like paper thin, you can hear everything from the person next door's tv, them in the shower, flushing the toilet to sneezing and coughing!

The food is awful, if you are a fussy eater which my partner is he couldn't eat hardly anything and lived off chips and bread most of the week. I on the other would try anything and I have to say I even found it hard trying to find something to eat. The food also never changes, its always the same. The food is mostly traditional tunisian cusine. By the end of the week I was sick of chicken and rice/couscous.

The only good bit about our trip was the two day sahara explorer trip we booked through the rep and also the welcome tour. We did another trip called the africian dream. However it was a big let down as the zoo was very poor, hardly any animals and the entertainment afterwards just seemed to go on for ages! If you have already booked this hotel go to the residence of roman at least once, you may find yourself going back like we did, its a little restuarant just to the left of the hotel and is run by a british woman. They are very nice and is reasonably priced.

I believe I paid too much for this holiday and would rate it more of a 2 star hotel, anyone going to tunisia should consider at least a 4-5 star holiday. Im normally not a fussy person and can stay anywhere, but I wouldn't even recommend this holiday to use as a base unless you get it a very cheap price and I mean around £200pp. The resort of hammamet was also very dirty and no life to it.

This hotel has put me off ever going back to Tunisia and I would not recommend this to anyone!

“Perfect for a cheap bit of winter fun and sun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2010

We got a great last minute deal for a week half board at this hotel. (£169 inc flights) It was what you would expect from a 3* with such a cheap price - a bit rough around the edges, but perfect to use as a base to explore Tunisia. As we were out off season, a lot of the facilities were closed, and the evening entertainment was, er, to put it politely, rather lack lustre, but we were out exploring most days.

The staff were friendly. There was more than enough choice for breakfast and dinner and we certainly didn't go hungry. Shower was hot and powerful enough. We had a problem with the plug in the bath - it was stuck solid and water couldn't drain out. We did report it, but it wasn't fixed, so we sorted it ourselves. More of an annoyance than anything else. We were wakened most mornings by the TV blaring in the room next door, but other than that, the rooms were quiet. The beach was so close you could hear the waves. Hammamet town centre/medina was about a half hour walk away - a nice walk along the shore line if the weather is nice.

All in all, we had a great little break, and thoroughly enjoyed Tunisia

“Good stay & we would go back again”

We had been to the Bel Azur before & knew what to expect. The staff are friendly and the food more than adequate. For a 3 star it does what it says on the tin. The place is being refurbished and there was quite a bit of banging during the day as whole sections of rooms were internally demolished. That didn't bother us a bit. The fact that there would be noise is probably whey there were no big UK tour operators there at the time.
The weather was a bit changeable so there weren't too many round the pool but it was well kept and very clean. It's position on the beach is a major plus for us (we don't fancy the supposedly better places at Yasmine Hammamet).
We had a problem with the lock on our room door but it was sorted out with a minimum of fuss. It will be interesting to see how the refurbishment goes. Another English couple there had a peek at some completed rooms & said they looked very good. With higher grade hotels as part of the complex we are more than happy with our bit.
I'd like to single out the bar organist who played for a couple of hours most nights. He was deceptively good playing western standards with some local stuff thrown in (we preferred his Tunisian tunes). The Animation team were very low key while we were there and as we don't like being organised that was fine by us. Nice place, nice stay. Thanks.
