“How this hotel is still open, I will NEVER know!!”

I don't know how ANYONE can say this Hotel is decent. I travelled with my partner, from the 18th Sept - 26th Sept. We arrived at about 21:30. When we walked into the reception, it looked ok, we were given a non-alcoholic cocktail and we were helped with our bags. The hotel was 4 floors and when we entered the lift, you could only go to floors 3 and 4. The buttons for the ground floor and floors 1 and 2 were missing. They were replaced later in the week after 4/5 men in suits were seen walking around the hotel. Our room (3068) and corridor absolutely stunk of sewage. Our room was a bright lime green and white colour, with lime green and white camouflage curtains. The bathroom was just filth. The shower was hanging off, the shower curtain was mouldy, the toilet was cracked, the chain had green mould around it and there was still signs of other peoples poo deep in the toilet. There was black hairs, of all sizes all over the our room. The maids didn't clean the bathroom properly and left traces of limescale all around the sink. Under the bed was disgusting, the room was cleaner before the maids started cleaning it. The balcony was only big enough for 2 seats and a small table and EVERY bit of noise could be heard through the balcony doors.

The food was terrible. All we could eat was pancakes for breakfast and even those were half cooked. The chips were cooked and re-cooked again when they were not used and the so called "chefs" used they're hands to handle ALL food types. After the 3rd day we both had really bad stomachs and found ourselves visiting the toilet every half an hour. We stopped eating within the hotel and just pigged out on crisps from the local shops and ate at resturants near by, which were gorgeous!

The all inclusive drinks were also terrible. The fizzy drinks i.e lemonadeand coke were all too sweet. The lager is watered down and the vodka is NOT vodka. It's they're own and made from figs. It taste awful! If your a vodka drinker, I seriously reccommend you buy a bottle of 2 on the plane and drink this instead. The bar had a constant stale beer smell to it and was filthy.

The hotel was FULL of French and once most of them left, the "Maxi-Club" reps showed some interest in us. Whilst the French were there, they only said about 3 words to us. During the day there is activities to do like volleyball, football, crazy darts, dance lessons etc but with French being Tunisia's second language, everything was spoken in it and we didn't have a clue what they were saying. Le Zenith is not catered for English what so ever. Information boards were either written in Arabic or French. The night time shows were just ok, got abit boring half way through and again, only the odd English word would be shot in so you had abit of an idea what was going on. After the hour show (10pm-11pm) it was disco time, however, we never went so can't comment on it.

On our last day, we were not getting picked up until 17:45 so thought we could stay in our room and shower before getting picked up, however, we were follwed by one of the hotel workers and she told us it was 30 Dinar (£15) to keep the room on and gave us 5 mins to finish our packing, this was at 14:30. We were NOT told what time we had to be out of our room for and no information about timings were in the room so refused to pay. We just sat in the reception area until our pick up arrived.

I would never return to this hotel. We were told from an ex worker of the Zenith that the week before we arrived, the hotel was nearly shut down by the police for going over the supposed time when the disco was meant to close but the police were just paid off.

We read other peoples reviews and decided to give it go anyway, now we wish we never. Le Zenith lets Tunisia down. If any stays here after read all the bad reviews then they will be insane!

“Animation staff excellent, waiters and reception terrible and rude”

On arriving at the Zenith hotel my wife and I were ushered to get something to eat, lunch had just started. Our bags were left in the foyer until our return. The hotel guests were 95% French, which was ok and to be honest what we expected after reading previous reviews. However, if this was an example of French dining...not impressed! The food was ok, but that is all.
After lunch we were given the key to our room but then approached by who we assumed was our rep....no! Beware, do not sign up for any excursions or commit yourselves to anything until you've had a day or so to get accustomed. We were pressured into the pirate ship trip but managed to avoid most of the others. Make sure you book the Sahara experience before you go, you get more for your money!
The room was clean, though just a little rough around the edges. But our view was fantastic...and the maids who clean the rooms daily are very nice and friendly. They were very polite and seemed genuinely interested that you were having a good holiday. Our maid got the majority of our tips on the day we left.
The Illumianation staff were very good and hard working, especially Ramos (you are a credit to the hotel), who made us feel very welcome, a complete contrast to the bar staff and waiters.
Overall our stay at the hotel was very good, I have learned a lot in the couple of weeks we spent there and would go again to this hotel. Recommend the disco later on in the evening, the DJ is a really nice guy, nice to have met you.
Tunisia is a wonderful place to visit and the Zenith Hotel was generally a good place to make as a base...but I recommend doing a bit of travelling round on your own steam. Go check out the buses and trains, and the yellow taxis are great value for money. But beware carpet sellers, we were ...persuaded behind locked doors to part with £700 for a 'top quality' Tunisian rug...be positive and be firm if you don't want to buy...Oh and beware of anyone saying 'Hello, I work at your hotel' after they have just eyed you getting out of a taxi near the markets....they don't work at hotels, they seem to know by the colour of your bands which hotel your staying at...don't be a target for them, just tell them to go away.
Only a couple of things marred our holiday, but overall we had a fantastic time in Tunisia.

“Horrible!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011

I am a regular visitor to Tunisa and this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in! After telling my family that the country and hotels are fantastic I was so shocked when we arrived in the shabby reception and convinced we were in the wrong hotel. On arrival we were given a room which I can only describe as something I would expect to get on a 18-30 holiday, sparce room with beds that dipped in the middle, the maid was still cleaning but left a big dirty patch on the floor and our pool view was a carpark. After complaining to reception we were moved to a room that was not appropriate for children, curtains hanging off the rail, the shower flooded the floor, paint peeling from the ceiling, flooded hallway to room. I think unless you complain you get the worst rooms and as soon as you are moved out new arrivals are moved in. I like Tunisian food but struggled with the choice and I thought the children would turn into pasta by the end of the week. Normally I feel sad to leave Tunisia but after this hotel I could not wait to leave was was glad it was only a week!! I would however recommend the Shakespeare pub which is short taxi ride, great entertainment well worth a night out.

“May not return but was happy with trip for the price”

I just got back from two weeks in the zenith hotel. It is a large hotel complex with I don't know how many rooms. There is a large variation in the quality of the rooms. The management uses different strategies to maximize their profit which is normal for a business. But some of the strategies are a little dishonest at best. First of all they list the hotel by at least two different names on the Internet but in fact it's the same hotel, zenith and kinza, and once you get there the name on the hotel is Sunny.
When you read the differences in the commentaries you wonder if people are talking about the same hotel. I can explain this and that people's expectations are different. If you regularly eat at McDonald's maybe you will not have a problem with the food that they serve.
For the rooms, it's somewhat of a lottery as to which room you get. But in talking with several guests who had a similar experience to mine, the reception to the hotel is a little shady. When I arrived 1 July the hotel was not at capacity so naturally I asked the clerk if she was giving me a nice room. With a smile she assured me that I was receiving one of the nicest rooms in the hotel with a view on the pool. I had booked a triple for two adults and one child and when I saw the room it was a standard room with an extra bed, with very worn fixtures, an old bathroom with calcium deposits all over and the smell of disinfectant.
I returned downstairs and told her that I was not happy with the room and that I could not imagine spending two weeks there. She told me that she had no other options for that day and that I could come back to speak with the director in two days because he was not working the next day. I told her firmly that I had no intention to speak with the director and that she needed to resolve my problem today. Then she said that she would give me another choice of rooms tomorrow if I came down at 10 o'clock since they were still preparing rooms.
When I arrived the next morning there were other clients complaining about the conditions of their rooms. One in particular was very unpleasant. I follow the very unpleasant couple and talk diplomatically to the lady at the reception and finally I ended up with a very nice room. 300% better than the room I had slept in the night before. From talking with other clients who had experience the same maneuver, clients are given bad rooms the first night and if they don't complain you will stay there for your entire vacation.
The other condition of satisfaction is the price that you pay. I had booked my trip well in advance and had a rate that was so low it was almost unbelievable for all inclusive.
As far as the food I was pleasantly surprised for the first few days that the food seemed fine. The beer was okay but the wine was undrinkable. The other local alcoholic beverages were also not good. All of the sodas and juices were overly sweet and undrinkable for me. The coffee was okay.
As the first week ended and the second week began, I found little pleasure in eating the food. It was like being in a hospital. After I realized that the quality of the ingredients were the worst that could be found in Tunisia. I mean they produce vegetables that are imported to Europe but it seemed that most of the vegetables served there would not be accepted by Europe.
I had expected that the food would not be the best and had already planned that we would eat outside of the hotel once a day. There were several restaurants within a 10 minute walk of the hotel that served excellent Tunisian food as well as fresh seafood for less than €10 per person.
The hotel was clean and the cleaning ladies were good and pleasant. I normally gave her a tip of one euro per day.
The animation in the hotel was good and the kids club was fined also.
There were shows each night put on by the animation team which were good and my daughter insisted to go each night. After the first week I would remain in the café during the show and would meet her afterwards. The music was too loud.
They had a disco in the complex but after our second visit we never returned. If you are interested in the nightlife there some good clubs 15 minutes away from the hotel by taxi. The oasis and the Latino.
All in all I was satisfied with my trip based on the price that I paid and the fact that I went at the beginning of the season. By the time I left the hotel was much more crowded and I was in fact happy to leave.
Don't expect more than a three star Tunisian hotel, realize that you may have to put some effort in negotiating the conditions of your stay, try to get out of the hotel and see some other things and be careful whenever you are receiving change from your purchases.
