We stayed in the Hotel Le Sultan for just over a week from the end of October. The hotel is crescent shaped facing due south over the sea, so half the rooms face the sea and the remainder face north into some pretty gardens. The gardens at the front abut onto the sea, but the hotel’s beach is about 100 yards to the right of the hotel. We booked a top floor sea view room which had a balcony as large as the bedroom and it was equipped with two sun beds, two canvas chairs, a table and a sunshade. The room was a good size with a Queen sized bed, all in good state of decoration. There is a free safe in the room and old school TV with numerous channels. The only English language service is CNN. The wash hand basin the bathroom is not fitted with a plug, so it is advisable to take a universal plug if you want water in the basin to sluice over your face. There is also a small fridge in the room to keep your water and any other drinks or foodstuffs cool. The chambermaid looked after our room very well indeed and we left a daily one Dinar tip which was much appreciated and so the room was always well looked after. The corridors were well lit and the carpets clean.
The entrance foyer was spacious and kept spick and span, as were the gardens and the pool.
We booked full board and at the hotel paid an extra 10DTs per day per person for all-inclusive which was well worthwhile. In fact it was a no brainer not to pay the extra to upgraded from full board to AI. Booking all-inclusive through the website or through a travel agency is not possible. The cheapest rate is to book directly through the hotel’s website. Whilst the hotel will want your card details to confirm your booking, it is best to settle the bill in Tunisian Dinars (TD) preferably using a pre-paid debit card, so avoid being hit by commission charges and high exchange rates by using your CC.
The food was very good. Each lunch and dinner had about seven or eight main courses available and these changed each meal and daily. It was therefore possible to eat there and not have the same main courses during the week. Breakfast was good, although having only one short order cook doing the omelettes meant there might be a queue. Small 1TD tips to the dining room waiting staff ensured the drinks were served promptly.
The bar staff were very good and the AI deal limited the choice of drinks to local brands, but the local spirits, wines, liqueurs, mixers, beers, pastis, etc were all perfectly palatable. The AI drinks shut at 11.00 pm. Again a steady stream of small tips ensured the bar staff looked after you well. Every evening there was some entertainment in the bar, which meant most of the people could be pleased for most of the time.
Internet facilities are there, but the cost is 10TDs an hour or 6TDs for 30 minutes. However you are given a slip of paper with your user name and dedicated password so you can log on for short periods of time until your time was used up. That way you can do a daily check on e-mails and spin your fee out over the period of your stay. However beware the keyboard is the French layout, so do not expect to be able to do fast typing.
There is a dive school in the hotel grounds. It is one of only three in the Hammamat area, so if you are a diver, that must be a big attraction.
The taxis by the hotel entrance were all on meters and it was about 2.50TD to Hammamat and about 8TD to Nabeul.
Overall we were delighted with the hotel, its food and facilities and would advise that a top floor sea view room with AI would make for an excellent stay.
