“This is Tunisia”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

The hotel is just about OK. We stayed for two nights as part of a tour and would not have chosen this place if we had booked independantly. Its not very expensive and you really get what you pay for.
Large dinning room with lots of choice from a several self service tables including hot and cold food. Not wonderful but again OK. Waiters were always playing 'catch up' but it is self service and they only really cleared away used plates, set tables and fetched drinks, service improved with a tip. Breakfast and dinner was representitive of all middle of the road (3 star) tourist hotels.
The Pool area looked good, the pool itself was large and looked relatively well cared for.
Our double room was located a long a largely unlit corridor and although it had a balcony this was very small and looked out into an inner and neglected and over grown court yard. This was not a balcony to sit and drink a toast to the setting sun! The room itself despite our request for non smoking had been used previously by what seemed to be a sucession of heavy smokers who had left burn marks on most of the furniture. The carpet was old and worn, the twin beds very low and nothing really looked or felt clean. The patio door would not lock, the safe would not work although the TV did and allowed us to watch BBC World News. The bathroom as you would expect had also seen better days although it was failry clean, had toiletries, a good supply of hot water and a working hair dryer.
Although the public areas were OK the room had an air of neglect and without doubt would be unsuitable for anyone planning to stay for more that one or two nights. Rooms that overlooked the pool area although not any better materially at least had a pleasant view. The room was quiet as there was an internal door separating the sleeping area from the bathroom/wardrobe area which is a thougthful touch so you dont hear noisey folks returning to their rooms late at night.
I would add however that considering what Tunisia has recently gone through and the loss of a significant number of tourists and business visitors the hotel appears to be still functioning. It desperately needs a refurnbishment.
The hotel is located someway out side of Tunis and within a tourist/ beach area which does not really appeal.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool have the best view but may be subject to noise from any external party

“One Star Hotel”

If you like to carry your bags over 50 yds, along numerous unlit corridors to a shabby, damp, dirty fetid room smelling strongly of cigarette smoke this is the hotel for you! The air conditioning in our room didn't work, the safe was broken and the patio door didn't lock so the room was insecure. Service in the restaurant was nonresistant from the waiters who would have been instantly dismissed for their behavior in a British hotel. This was a pity as we found the food served in the restaurant was really good both in quality and variety. If you like to drink spirits buy duty free on the plane as a double cost one of our party 14 Dinar (£7) in the bar. (Small bottle of Beer costs 4 D(£2) and a bottle of Wine 24 Dinar (£12) ). Please see the pictures for the 'view' you will enjoy.

Room Tip: Try and get a non-smoking room which overlooks the swimming pool and ensure you have an operational...

“"Hell Mouradi Gammarth"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

Filthy sheets, lumpy pillows, badly stained carpet, mattress harder than sleeping on the floor, towel rail hanging off the wall, hairdryer hanging off the wall, toilet roll holder hanging off the wall, lack of lightbulbs, no instructions for the safe, repeated requests for instructions ignored...but the safe was screwed to a removable shelf so probably not the safest place to put your passport anyway......and that was just the bedroom. The dining room was "sticky". Luke warm tea and coffee, warm salads and tepid chicken stew - the bread was nice though.

Room Tip: chose another hotel....

“5 star hall and 2 star service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

I was one of 12 or so people who stayed at El Mouradi for work and a conference. I spent 10 nights there. We were told there was Wi Fi access in the rooms but there wasn't. Wi Fi only in the hall, out by the pool and in the large restaurant where breakfast is served; computer access very expensive (8 Dinar for one hour; 24 for the day and 155 for a week ). Cable connection worked in some rooms but no adeguate seating provided (high pouf, low bench)and most cables very short forcing you to work in extremely uncomfortable conditions. In the first room (N. 2080) the semi-transparent day curtains were filthy, there were large stains on the carpet and the cheap bed-side tables had large burn marks; bathroom was clean enough but not sparkling, the towels felt like they were full of soap. Room bar-fridge was .empty in both rooms, no shower cap, face-washer or slippers provided. No light blankets provided so you had to use the bedspread of dubious cleanliness. Second room (3211 - one of those above the gigantic reception area) in much better condition but the brochures advertising the luxuriousness of the El Mourade experience had been covered in jam or honey by previous guests and not changed. Room service and laundry service were sometimes unreliable: items put out before 9am were supposed to be delivered clean and ironed on the same day - they weren't; tea with lemon requested arrived tepid and with no lemon. Great variety of food offered at buffet breakfast but frightful coffee and a preponderance of chocolate-flavoured cereals. A shortage of teaspoons. As to location: the beach is nice but you are in a tourist "ghetto" and you need a car for going anywhere else (plenty of taxis eagerly waiting opposite the hotel - insist on them using the metre to calculate the taxi-fare). We chose the hotel because of its price (less than 60 Dinar per room per night for 1 person) and because we thought staying there would be more comvenient for reaching Sidi Bou Said and Carthage where our conference was being held than staying in Tunis. Most staff were friendly but they lacked the professionalism of a 5 star hotel: no attention to detail, no clarity about the Wi Fi access (first some rooms had problems then after about 7 days the frank admission that there was no Wi Fi in the rooms),

“It was my worst stay ! Bad experience with unprofessional Spa members”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

I was visitor for few days, the food not varied specially sea food, i got a cold coffee in my room, the air conditionner is not working well .
I said lets change and try the spa! Oh my god i cant believe that the Supervisor cause thats what i was told "Rim " . cant understand and make the difference between , the treatment they are offering ?i finish by chosing by my self .
And i finish by having the most bad Massage in my life, cause the therapist , was so soft in her pressures and you cant feel her hands at all ..( i asked for a combination of Slimming & Relaxing )i think that the staff is not trained enough , and needs to be more improved and informed, same for the supervisor she needs to be more effective .
I advise to visist the hotel , but not the spa !
lots of clients when sitting together in the bar , are complaining specially from same lady Rim and her behaviour .
