“Horror Hotel - Dont Go There, Dont Believe The Website”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2008

We arrived at the Layan at 10pm at night with 2 children (4,7) who had been up for 26 hours traveeling from NZ with stopover in Australia. We only wanted a 1 night stay as were moving to another hotel closeby for a function the following day. Firstly the taxi driver couldnt find it. Then when we arrived the place seemed to be dead apart from about 4 Thai people waiting for us to sign in. There didnt look to be any other life around the place at all. Part way trough the registration process we asked to see the room, it took the woman approx 5 minute sof going through plastic bags to find a key after which time we had managed to get the cab driver to hang around as it was in the back of beyond and we ould have been stuck there if he had gone. My husband went up to look at the room which you had to walk way up a stony, gravelly type path to. No welcoming lights or anything. The room / unit was as he put it "NOT FIT FOR A DOG!" and filthy. He knew we wouldnt sleep well in that environment so told the woman we wanted to leave. She was most unhappy and tried to get cleaners to come and get a better room (didnt appear to be anyone else staying) BUT by then we had had enough and just wanted to get out of there. We then tried to get to Patong to Ban Thai Hotel as had friends stayying there at the time BUT driver tried to take us "To Banyan tree - much closer". He didnt seem to know his way around too well and stopped at a dodgy looking tourist shop to get directions in Thai from people he knew. We did eventually get to Ban Thai which was absolutely fine and we were just pleased to put our head down.

“DON'T GO in this hotel which could close immediately !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 March 2008

We wanted to stay for our 2 days left in Thailand in a wonderful place, but what a mistake !
I think this hotel is in "bankrout" : there was just NOTHING : no spa, no restaurant, no beach, no restaurant on the beach. And what was there was just unbelivable : green water in the swimming pool, breakfast unedible, staff, especially the boss at the reception unfriendly and unfaithfull. In one word : find another resort !

Moreover, the nearest restaurant is about 10 km from this "hotel fantom".

“Don't Go There. Appalling!!”

This place is absolutely terrible.
The hotel rooms and main area of the hotel are disgustingly unkept and in disrepair. The facilities advertised are imaginary, the service is appalling and the activities are non existent.
There is NO spa, the pool is NOT clean and the food is substandard.
We were unfortunaltely fooled by the website and booked a holiday at Layan Beach Resort and Spa. The hotel was so bad we left early as did other guests we encountered at the hotel. I cannot express how bad this place is and recommend you stay far away.

“Disaster”

Our final stay during our trip to Thailand turned out to be a big disappointment. Our expectations was high arriving to the the hotel, expectations based on their homepage mentioning spa facilities and restaurant by the beach etc but it turned out to be one of the biggest false marketing activities that I ever have experinced. Belive me, nothing of what is shown on the their homepage is in contact with reality, the spa and restaurant facilities by the beach consisted of empty buildings, felt like a ghost city, a lot of trash laying around, giving a totally different picture compared to the homepage. The whole resort gave a very negative feeling/sence, it seemed empty even during peak season, it is in a great need of maintenance and nothing of the calm, relaxing and romantic touch you get looking at their homepage was exisiting.....DON'T BOOK this resort. We had booked 8 nights, we left already after 2 hours without receiving any refund of our pre-payment, expensive YES but if was worth it, staying here would have ruined our last part of our trip !

“Wonderful 23 Anniversary”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2007

We were looking for a place romantic, quiet and restfull and we found all of this and more. Our room was spacious, clean and in good condition. We had fresh flowers on our bed each day which added to the romantic atmosphere. When the tide was out we could walk to the small island and watch the fishermen and soak up the local culture.
The food was wonderful and the staff ,although some did not speak English did all they could to please us. We were there 15 days and loved every minute. We made friends with the staff and fell in love with each one of them.
My husband and I felt very special. The staff went out of their way to make each meal something special from dinner on the beach with candle light, to dinner on the veranda overlooking the ocean.
I recieved a 2 hour massage while my husband played ping pong and pool with members of the staff.
We couldn't have asked for a better vacation. It was worth every penny, we got more than our moneys worth. One of our waiters a young boy of 19 even learned some english so he could talk to us in our native language.
There are a lot of steps but if you walk around the drive you can avoid the climb. It is a good way to stay in shape and we were in better condition because of the steps. We loved the resort and the people all of them. We look forward to our next trip same place and hopefully the same staff. when you visit do so in October you will leave feeling very special.
