“Stay from 24th Dec to 30th Dec 2011”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We were lucky to stay in a studio apartment over looking the marina with all the expensive boats. The apartments are unfortunately a bit dated & old looking inside. The amenities though , are good with a small kitchen area, bathroom with shower & bedroom with wardrobes & a safe which is free.

The marina have quite a few eating places. We ate at the Watermark on Xmas Day which had a lovely atmosphere with music playing. The food was first class but as most people have said, a little pricey compared to other eating places around the marina. Glad we ate here as the staff were lovely & it is nice eating overlooking the boats. We also ate at the Indian which was also very dated but the food was very hot & tasty. There is an italian called La Taverna where the food was lovely but the service wasn't - I felt! Near the lighthouse there is a fantastic baker with tasty pastries, bread, sandwiches, to eat in or take away. After 4pm they were reducing the cakes, so we were rather greedy after a day out we would end up at the bakers for a tasty pastry. On site there is a grocers convenience store which is reasonably priced. So get your water, drinks, food here is ok. Compared to Tesco Lotus not bad prices.

We used the pool near reception. It was rather dirty the first couple of days we were their. Someone must have complained as after that someone would be cleaning it daily. The swim up bar unfortunately wasn't open, so that was rather disappointing. We ate at the restaurant next to the swimming pool & found it very reasonable. The pool was very quiet during the day time as the hotel catered for lots of Asian coach parties. Which had breakfast & then went out for the day. In the evenings we were out in the restaurants around the Marina so didn't really see them that much.

We used the hotel to order taxi's as they did not rip you off. We got a taxi one way to Tesco Lotus & then arranged it ourselves to come back. They have set prices so it was the same as when we ordered it from reception. Also you are close to Premium Outlets & Central where there are lots of shops & eating places.

We had arranged lots of trips before we arrived at the hotel but the reception staff were very helpful & always smiley when we were about when asking them for details.

All in all a nice stay. I would not personally stay here again as rather old accomodation & I prefer to stay at a beach resort. This was an experiment & not a mistake by choosing the boat lagoon. We had a lovely relaxing stay so we can't really complain about it. The cleaners were good & the staff at reception were lovely. So a nice place to chill around the pool in lovely gardens.

Room Tip: We stayed in the studio apartments overlooking the marina. You have to climb stairs with suitcases...

“Its Boats Boats Boats”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2011

This was a short stay, and I had booked through the Karma group. The two bedroom apartment was very comfortable, and was a part of the row houses that sat at the edge of a canal that meandered through the residential area. Despite doubtful reviews, I found the apartment clean, regularly serviced, with adequate air conditioning in the bedrooms, and a functional kitchen.
There was free internet, but one has to get the password from the Karma office which is located in a little arcade built along the lagoon crowded with boats. The arcade also had a couple of restaurants, but the grocery store was a little distance away- inside the resort gates, but about 10 minutes walk. The resort is very large, and also has a hotel, studios built over the arcade, and private residences built along an internal canal on which the row houses are located.
The Karma resort office had arranged an airport pick up and drop off, and I booked their taxi to go into town. Their rates are comparable to most taxi services. The big advantage of the property is its location. Its a little closer to the airport than Phuket town and the lagoon has the pier from where all boat trips to the islands in the Andaman sea start and end.
The resort was quiet, its grounds well maintained, and the neighbours were almost invisible.I did enjoy the place. But then, I like boats, and don't really mind spending my day looking at them

Room Tip: Go through the Karma resort if you want a serviced 2 bedroom apartment

“Good value but away from the "action"”

We have stayed at this resort several times. The primary reason being that it is located close to the compound where family lives. We have stayed in the main lodge as well as in the one bedroom efficiency suites overlooking the marina. It is true that this resort caters to the Asian group tours market. This also means that during the day you will be able to enjoy the magnificent, large, pool in peace and quiet. The rooms are well appointed and the service is pleasant and efficient. There are several very nice restaurants within a few minutes walking from the main entrance of the resort. Of these The Watermark serves nice but overpriced food. The others offer good value for your THB. In the morning stroll towards the buildings surrounding the marina. In the last building is an awesome little bakery that has great breads and buns and an excellent cup of coffee.

If you would like to enjoy a nice inexpensive meal walk to the main road and cross it using the walkway bridge. On the other side of the road is a nice little restaurant called Chilis that offers great food at an excellent price. Free WiFi too!

“Not as bad as I was led to believe from what I've read here ....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2011

O.k., it wouldn't be an ideal hotel for those who are in Phuket for pure holiday bliss and would like to do all the touristy things in the shortest span of time. You could do much better staying at the west part of Phuket. We stayed at the Boat Lagoon due to the need to be closest to an international school in this part of the island. Booked 2 'Lagoon View' rooms which were bright, spacious and clean, located in the main block. Didn't see the hotel holding back on coffee nor tea bags nor cups in the rooms as reported by some people here. Yes, the hotel appears to cater to mainly Asian package tourists. However, the place seemed to be quiet in the day and the only time you notice the package tourists is during breakfast. Speaking of which, the one thing that most reviewers got it right collectively in the previous reviews is that breakfast is certainly not the best on the island ! Front office end, the staff were well competent and had no problem with the English language.

Location-wise, we love the whole complex, although the hotel itself could do with a rejuvenation reno. Multi-million-dollar view of some absolutely splendid yachts. Several fab dining places within 2-3 minutes walk inside the Boat Lagoon itself. We had a good dinner at La Taverna one night and drinks at The Galley on another night. On our last night, we wanted to try out the Watermark, which is supposed to be THE fine dining place on the island, but it was packed out. Also, the Winch was closed on the 2 nights we decided to seek it out.

All-in-all, wouldn't mind staying here again if we need to be on this part of the island.

“Avoid - not suitable for Europeans - mostly chinese here”

Very basic hotel with indifferent staff and facilities. Geared up for mass tourism from China / Taiwan / Korea. Food very unsuitable
