We enjoyed an 8 night stay with our young family (8/5 yo) in Dec 11. 2 interconnecting rooms on the 3rd floor, that were a good size and very clean, overlooking the pool. Room facilities were satisfactory, but no DVD player, but we bought our own portable machine that plugged in without any problems. Beds (both King and single) were huge and very comfortable. Water pressure in the shower is not the best, but better than some places I have stayed at in Asia.
The main attraction for us at this property was the pool. It is a fantastic size, with a toddlers pool, and a swim up Bar that has "Happy Hour" for two hours around 5pm. Poolside service is very good. No matter what time of the day you are swimming, there is always lots of shaded areas to escape the Sun. There is another pool on the top floor (Moon pool and Bar) which is more suited to people without children, but still a nice view.
Buffet breakfast was very good, with a large range of western and asian dishes, to satisfy both parents and fussy children. Nightly "themed" buffet dinner looked good, but can be a bit expensive.
The Mecure is one block back from Patong beach, about a 5 min walk, so you miss all the noise associated with traffic and night life closer to the beach. Markets are a short stroll away, Hard Rock cafe is across the road. There is a small 7/11 type store right next door that has most "provisions" that that you might need. In front of the store is a good tour operator (We did James Bond Island and the Elephant trek/Snake show). They also double as a laundry agent, we got about 30 items washed and ironed for about $15 AUD.
The only complaint I could make, is the hall ways leading to the rooms echo very loudly, which is a problem when other guests wander back to their rooms in the early hours after a night at the Bangor Rd bars.
Considering the deal we had, (stay 8 pay for 4 incl b/f) and the location/facilities, the Mecure was great value for money, and we look forward to staying there again soon.
