I was not expecting much to be honest, given that I'd paid A$28 a night, but when I arrived at the foyer, I was very pleased to find the place was quiet, although a stone's throw to all the action....clean, and staff friendly and helpful....Then, when I opened the door to my room upstairs, there was that moment when you wonder whether its going to be a good surprise or a bad surprise, and the answer was overwhelmingly good...
Dont get me wrong, this is not 4 stars, but its a very, very nice 2-3 star place. The rooms are quiet, not cramped, clean, and mine (202) had a very nice aspect over the pool and mountains to the east. I wanted to extend my stay, but it was booked out, which came as no surprise. The buffet breakfast was included and although not on a par with the Holiday Inn buffet, it had everything I wanted and cooked fine.
As a budget option, its one of the best places I've ever stayed, and I enjoyed it more than the much dearer hotel I subsequently had to move to on the beachfront, it had a lot more soul, a lot more charm, just not as good a position.
One more thing, they had a shelf of quality fiction books to borrow and read, which you dont get at the ritzy places, and this gave me a welcoming feel that was the icing on the cake.
I will definitely be looking to stay there again, at length, if location is paramount, and not at my other favourite spot in Patong, the Deevana, which is a truly lovely spot (at the mid-upper end of the luxury scale), but a fair walk from the action.
