“Potential....but”

We arrived at this hotel at 4pm, and it appeared that the front desk staff had no record of our booking. Fortunately I had a print out from the Wotif.com website, otherwise Im sure that they would have turned us away. Throughout the 40minutes that it took them to resolve what room that they were going to put us in, (changed keys 3 times), not once did they explain what they were doing, or apologise for keeping us waiting. There was a lot of conversation between the 3 of them, but they did not let us know what was going on.

We booked, and paid for an ocean view room. We were placed in a room that was newly renovated, but not finished, with what I wouldnt classify as an ocean view. You could see the ocean if you looked really hard, but it was not what I was expecting. I guess maybe they had given our room to someone else. T

The room was a nightmare. Not yet finished, and very sparsley decorarated. The TV had two chanels only, no toiletries were provided and the towel rack fell off the wall as soon as we hung a towel on it. But.... the worse thing was the shower/toilet (combined like most hotels). There was no shower screen at all, and the water sprayed everywhere. THere were two drains , but none of the water drained through them. The water just filled the corner of the room, leaving the toilet sitting in approx 5 cm of water. The drains were not only blocked, they were not placed in the correct location for the water flow. Needless to say we requested another room.

The next room was much better, on the ground floor with the balcony that leads into the pool. Not what we booked, but better than the previous room. The only complaint I have about this room was the housekeeping. I dont like to normally complain about housekeeping, as some guests are really feral and Im sure that their jobs are not easy. However our housekeeper was shocking. On three separate occasions she forgot to give us towels. She would remove the dirty ones and just not give us replacements. Bin was often forgotten as well as ashtray on balcony. Toiletries were rarely replaced and sink, vanity top etc were never wiped down. Maybe it wouldnt have been so frustrating if the front desk actually cared when you let them know that you had no towels etc. On one occasion it took two phone calls and a personal visit to lobby area to get towels for the room. It appears that it just wasnt a priority to them.

Restaurant staff are excellent as well as the staff at breakfast. They really lift the overall experience of this hotel. The Front Desk staff are all rude, arrogant and require training in customer service skills, or they need to be fired. It really is that bad!

Check out unfortunately was nearly as bad as check in. If you are checking out at around noon, get there at 11.30am. The whole process is unorganised, unprofessional and again, no one actually communicates with you to let you know what is going on. It took us 35 minutes to check out of this hotel.

All of this was a shame, as I feel as when the hotel is finished it will have real potential to be great. But only if they train or replace those front desk staff members. This was our 3rd trip to Patong Beach, and although we still had a great time, the hotel experience was not nearly as good as others. I would reccommend the Horizon Beach Resort or Patong Merlin over Baan Laimai.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, request a room at rear of hotel as music in restaurant plays loudly unti...

“Second visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Well this was our second year at this hotel. Well the building work is still going on! Thought it would be much further on as it has been a year since our last holiday there. Now most of the rooms are finished and occupied hotel is much bussier and noisier. Last year we stayed in the old part of the hotel but this time decided to go into one of the new rooms, lovely big rooms but not quite as the photos. No headboards, pictures or soft furnishings so room felt unfinished, pity really as it could look quite nice if these little extras where added. Had lots of problems with hot water in the bathroom, would have to call engineer most evenings to sort it. Sunbeds around the pool still as uncomfortable as i remember so went to beach most days, pity reallty as it is a lovely pool and by spending that little extra by providing pads it would encourage people to stay at pool and of course spend more money on food and beverages. Had read few reviews regarding reception staff and I found these to be very accurate, how they cannot understand english very well when all other staff including housekeeping can completely understand your wishes is beyond me! Only basic clean of the rooms most days and can recall only 1 full clean in 2 weeks, also mini bar only replenished every 3 days or so which is a pity as very resonably priced. Food was still very good if a little expensive and breakfast was better than last year. All in all a good hotel for the cost but not same service as other 4 stars although this is reflected in the cost. I would return again but only for a short stay would prefare somewhere else for a longer stay.

“Very Nice Swimming Pool”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Hotel was under renovation and some wings were totally or partially closed. Depending on the location of your room, construction noise could be heard during day time.

Rooms are large, but look empty because of lack of furniture. It was clean, but not spotless. Drain of shower was not efficient and shower turned into a foot bath after few minutes. There is a small fridge with mini-bar inside the room.

The endless pool is great and the sun deck beautiful. Rooms are located all around the pool and the view on the pool is magnificent. The highlight of this hotel is definitely the swimming pool.

Beach is located just across the street, but it is far from being a top-class beach. Obviously, tourists don’t come to Patong Bay for its beaches. Nice beaches can be seen on day cruises, but you will highly probably meet large groups of Chinese tourists that are lousy, have no manner, act like if they were in their own country, and have no respect for local people. They are a nightmare in hell !

Check-in & check-out were slow, but conventional for Thai standards. Lobby is full of mosquito. For a buffet, breakfast was more than acceptable.

I would have no problem to return to this hotel, but I doubt I will ever go back to Phuket. There are much prettier beaches in Asia. Pattaya is the same as Phuket with dirty beaches, over-developed mercantilism, bars, prostitution, etc.; but at least it is closer to Bangkok.

“Good Location,”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

This place has a great location making everything in Patong walking distance. Breakfast was extensive, pool was great and the service from the Food and Beverage team could not be faulted. Our room was perfect, with a great view and everthing you could need. The Front desk was the only let down on this trip. They were forgetful, rude and unhelpful. Our aircon was leaking and it took three calls and visit to the desk to get it fixed. when checking out they changed the room key before the check out time. Also, there is still construction going on (regardless of the email i sent asking) and the live band is still playing till midnight. so i would recommend a room away from the front of the hotel and the back of the hotel. But the Food and Beverage staff were great fun and very attentive. Good cocktails and yummy meals. This will be a great place when complete.

Room Tip: No Ocean view rooms or anything at the back of the hotel. Pool access rooms looked perfect.
