“Great Location, lovely staff”

We stayed for 2 weeks from Jan 5 this year. When we arrived we were upgraded to a delux room, there were 6 of us and we had rooms 405 409 and 411. These rooms were brand new and overlooked the pool. We were all very pleasantly surprised! Although we couldn't really see the beach it was still a nice view. Could just get a glimpse over the palm trees. I believe the rooms we originally booked up higher were old and a bit tattered.
For a resort that size there never seemed to be many people around and you could always get a pool chair. The pool was always very very clean and the grounds were well kept.
It was only a 150 m walk to Patong beach, and about a 10 min walk to Bangla Road. It was good because it was far enough away from the busy parts but close enough to walk or get a tuk tuk.
We were a bit panicked after reading the reviews about the safes but we had no trouble at all.
The air cond in 411 was very noisy, but the manager was quick and helpful and suggested another room straight away. We did stay put though cause the other room was on another floor and we wanted to be near our friends.
This time of year there was a beautiful breeze that could be felt throughout the resort most times of the day. Even shopping at lunch time was not too hot.
The breakfast, gym, and pool area were on level 3, this was very handy only one flight down. Te breakfast was great with an amazing choice of everything from eggs/bacon/toast to all Thai Cuisine.
There were so many places to eat nearby but we found ourselves going back to "friendly's" at the end of the street, an open type restaurant that was packed away during the day! There were many similar types all along the street there. Food cheap seafood unreal and great service.
Prices around pool were a bit more expensive but thats to be expected and of course there's the 17% surcharge to watch out for, but we had room service and ordered around the pool a few times but preferred to eat on the streets.
Overall a great place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone, but just make sure you get the renovated rooms!

“Average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Stayed in the hotel during January 2012. The hotel is in a great position - only 150m from the beach with great ocean views from the rooms. However, the reception staff were unhelpful and at times even rude. I asked for early check-in (12 noon), which was not available as they were busy. Our group had no problem with this and we were asked to return at 14h to check in. However the room was also not available upon our return and we had to sit around and wait in the lobby. We asked for a wake-up call the next morning - which we never received. The house keeping staff were really friendly and eager to help. Breakfast was also good. We had no problems with safety but didn't need to use the safes, which was perhaps lucky reading some of the other reviews! All in all a pretty average hotel and rather dissapointing after staying in much better hotels in the same price range in the rest of Thailand.

“Why renting a condo in a hotel didn't work for us . . .”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This review will also be posted under the condo owner's page.

Sometimes, no matter how hard an owner tries, things just don’t go well for a holiday rental. Undoubtedly some of the blame will lie with the owner but in this case I got the feeling that the owner was let down badly by quite a few people. Let me explain.

Firstly, I want to say that I do not like Phuket and specifically the Patong Beach area. It’s seedy, sleazy and not somewhere I would ever take my children again. Now, let’s start with the first and biggest culprit in what was not the best holiday we’ve had – Andaman Beach Suites (ABS).

We arrived late at night but the receptionist had no idea who we were and seemed less than pleased that we were not actually hotel guests but renting a condo within the hotel. That set the tone between us and them for the week we were there. ABS was awful. They were slow, their standards were remarkably low but their staff were always friendly and smiling as they didn’t do what was required of them.

Do not take your children to ABS unless you want to immerse them in second hand smoke. There are seemingly no restrictions on smoking, including one guest smoking in the swimming pool – disgusting. The pool was pleasant as long as there weren’t too many smokers around – often it was unbearable and we had to leave.

Room service and food standards were low compared to what is available locally. Cleaning of the condo, by the hotel staff, was cursory and without any thought. The apartment came with a fully equipped kitchen; there was even a sharp knife or two – a very good sign. Then the hotel started taking crockery and cutlery away and not bringing it back for days – no matter how many times we called them. A very odd set up.

This is supposed to be about the apartment but the apartment is in the hotel and that is probably the biggest shame. The apartment is actually quite nice. The photographs are a little misleading as they are with many rentals. Note to owners - if you’re going to show a view on the pool, for example, let it be from the apartment’s balcony otherwise owners come across as dishonest.

This apartment has clearly had a lot of money spent on it. The finishes are above average and the layout and design are good. This is an apartment for two couples or a family of four in comfort once all the wrinkles are ironed out. Don’t go there until you are sure they are.

Sadly the work carried out by builders or the architect’s people was sub-standard. One water heater didn’t work so we only had one operational bathroom for the whole holiday. One day we came home to find a steam-filled bathroom and a smell of burning electrical cable. I banned the children from using the bathroom at all at that point.

A wardrobe door handle came off in my wife’s hand. These things happen but on top of all the other little annoyances one’s holiday starts to become a nightmare. The taps (faucet) in the master bathroom were loose; there were just too many things going wrong to let it go. The owner of the apartment was trying and we were emailing almost every day, but that is not what a holiday should be. Call me spoiled if you like but if someone offers me five-star luxury that is what I expect.

There is plenty more that I could write but here is a very brief summary to help you with your choice.

Patong Beach, Phuket is sleazy and not somewhere I would take my children again. Stay away from Andaman Beach Suites because they don’t seem to like condo renters. Ask all owners wishing to rent if the photographs were ALL taken from or within the apartment. If you are renting a condo in a hotel make sure you check the hotel out fully. The last point makes me wonder if I’ll go to a condo-hotel again because if the relationship between renter(s) and hotel management is not good, it doesn’t really matter how good the apartment is.

The owner of this apartment seems like a really nice person. We were offered 50% off of the rates if we wanted to return – extremely unlikely. We were also offered a BHT 2,000 dinner at a local restaurant we’d already been to . . . by then it was too late and I even felt a little insulted by that. As if a meal is going to make everything better for me, my wife and two children. Nevertheless the owner was trying which is not always the case.

This was the first ‘duffer’ I’ve had using Trip Adviser as my guide. I will continue to use it but I’m going to be a little more careful in future.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else!

“Great hotel, but a couple small issues”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We stayed here for a total of 5 nights in January 2012. We had the family suite, room 1208. It was overall a very good experience. The hotel is great, but it's a bit dated. It must've been amazing about 20 years ago, but is getting a bit worn and weathered. The buffet was okay, but not very fresh...and the staff working the breakfast were not very friendly. The ladies at the front desk were excellent and very helpful. The location of this hotel was wonderful...just a short walk to everything.

The one issue I had is that it is overpriced for its age. While a beautiful hotel, it is very dated. It is priced as if it was a new hotel right on the beach. Instead, it's an older hotel a couple blocks from the beach. I think you can find better deals, either on the beach or for a better price. We passed a small hotel called The Sunset which was right on the beach and looked quaint. We might try that next time. But to pay almost $300 a night for a hotel a couple blocks from the beach just didn't seem like a good bargain.

The hotel does have a good view, and our balcony overlooked the ocean (and the buildings in between). I really enjoyed the great options for food...some wonderful restaurants just a short walk away.

Room Tip: The family room 1208 was great and very big...lots of room, great view, and quiet.

“Great time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

Stayed at the hotel for two weeks in a family suite room 1208 at the start of January. The location of the hotel was great with only a short walk to most of Pattongs attractions. We had a balcony view which was great The rooms are neat and clean however becoming a little dated. The breakfast was excellent and we could not have asked for more. Reading previous reviews I was concerned about the security of the room safe. I can happy report that we had no issues during our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. The pool was excellent and IT connectivity was not an issue. I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel to friends or stay here again. Thanks for making our stay in Phuket so enjoyable.
Recommend the street restaurant the first one you come to when you turn right out of the hotels entrance road great food at a great price
