I deliberated long and hard this time as to where to stay in Phuket especially after my last disastrous experience at club 17. Aquarius is situated in the centre of the Paradise complex and close to all the gay night clubs, bars and restaurants. When you first arrive at Aquarius you notice all the tables and chairs set up along the roadside similar to that of a European cafe, which is where they serve breakfast. Also on the ground floor you have the reception area (very friendly and efficient) and a gym and pool area. I think I remember reading in one of the reviews someone referring to the pool as the size of a bath tub...not true...it’s actually quite a decent size. There are also a couple of netted day beds beside the pool which are used for massage. On the second floor you have a sauna. I would agree this is by no means a world class sauna – but it’s more than adequate and has a large wet area which comprises of steam room, spa, dry sauna and showers. Leading off from the wet area you have approx. 8 private cabin rooms. The sauna is FREE and available to all guests who wish to use it. Another huge bonus was the roof top terrace which I used on several occasions. It’s a great chill out area and great for sun tanning ... It has a decent size sundeck area with sun lounges plus another step up spa. Could do with a little more love and I believe the owners are looking at updating this roof top space. My room was 302 – penthouse suite with Jacuzzi. On entering the suite I felt extremely relieved and quite at home, so this was a good first impression. The room was very spacious and clean with king bed and comfortable mattress (very important), large lounge area and flat screen TV / DVD, air con, small kitchenette and a large tastefully decorated bathroom with Jacuzzi. You can also have your room serviced daily; they provide free internet connection and free breakfast within the rates. Being in the middle of the paradise centre with all the bars etc I really thought that it would be extremely noisy at night, but again I was really pleasantly surprised and had really deep sleeps with no noise what-so-ever. Don’t expect the “Ritz” – it’s a guesthouse – somewhere you can go and relax and feel at home – somewhere that is inviting and more friendly. We did not encounter any rude staff as reported in previous reviews – in fact all staff and the owners were very approachable and very helpful. There was a slight language / communication problem with house maids, but this is to be expected in any Asian city. This is a great friendly guesthouse and I would recommend it not only for couples, but for single guys too, as it’s easy to hook up with other fellow travellers. Overall represents good value for money.
