“Excellent Men Only Guesthouse in the Centre of the Paradise Centre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2011

I deliberated long and hard this time as to where to stay in Phuket especially after my last disastrous experience at club 17. Aquarius is situated in the centre of the Paradise complex and close to all the gay night clubs, bars and restaurants. When you first arrive at Aquarius you notice all the tables and chairs set up along the roadside similar to that of a European cafe, which is where they serve breakfast. Also on the ground floor you have the reception area (very friendly and efficient) and a gym and pool area. I think I remember reading in one of the reviews someone referring to the pool as the size of a bath tub...not true...it’s actually quite a decent size. There are also a couple of netted day beds beside the pool which are used for massage. On the second floor you have a sauna. I would agree this is by no means a world class sauna – but it’s more than adequate and has a large wet area which comprises of steam room, spa, dry sauna and showers. Leading off from the wet area you have approx. 8 private cabin rooms. The sauna is FREE and available to all guests who wish to use it. Another huge bonus was the roof top terrace which I used on several occasions. It’s a great chill out area and great for sun tanning ... It has a decent size sundeck area with sun lounges plus another step up spa. Could do with a little more love and I believe the owners are looking at updating this roof top space. My room was 302 – penthouse suite with Jacuzzi. On entering the suite I felt extremely relieved and quite at home, so this was a good first impression. The room was very spacious and clean with king bed and comfortable mattress (very important), large lounge area and flat screen TV / DVD, air con, small kitchenette and a large tastefully decorated bathroom with Jacuzzi. You can also have your room serviced daily; they provide free internet connection and free breakfast within the rates. Being in the middle of the paradise centre with all the bars etc I really thought that it would be extremely noisy at night, but again I was really pleasantly surprised and had really deep sleeps with no noise what-so-ever. Don’t expect the “Ritz” – it’s a guesthouse – somewhere you can go and relax and feel at home – somewhere that is inviting and more friendly. We did not encounter any rude staff as reported in previous reviews – in fact all staff and the owners were very approachable and very helpful. There was a slight language / communication problem with house maids, but this is to be expected in any Asian city. This is a great friendly guesthouse and I would recommend it not only for couples, but for single guys too, as it’s easy to hook up with other fellow travellers. Overall represents good value for money.

“Great stay, perfect location, it met my needs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2011

I was very pleased styaing at Aquarius, it met my needs, it has a perfect location, in the gay area (paradise complex) and a few min walk to the beach, we stayied for 1 month, our room was very spacious and newlly renovated, the room was cleand every single day, we had no problem with noise, The owners were fantastic (Paul & Thomas) anything we asked they tried to assist us, very accomodating. the only down thing I have encountered at the end of my stay was the attitude of some of the staff, I did read on previous Trip Advisor reviews about the staff being rude but never experienced that until my last night, BUT... my stay was perfect and small things like these it makes me forget it. Definatelly I will go back, and definatelly reccomended!!!

“Very Good Guest House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2011

Stayed for 12 nights over Christmas and New Year and found the guest house very friendly, clean and facilities very good. For New Year the hotel staff made an extra special effort dressing up and putting on a show and serving food and drink.

The hotel has free Wifi which is really good if you want to surf the net or research while away. Also although the pool isnt huge, it is more than adequate for the size of the hotel.

The location, litterally a minutes walk from the gay nightlife is ideal. Despite the closeness to all the action the hotel isnt noisy and you can still get a good nights sleep. Also the beach isnt too far away, talking about 10 minutes to walk and also good shopping centres are nearby.

Overall I would rate the hotel good for the price, and although I didnt see all the rooms, I believe there are more expensive rooms which have facilities for people on higher budgets.

Keep up the good work! Darren and Craig.

“Honest and detailed review if you are considering staying here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2010

I am currently staying in the Aquarius Guesthouse right now. I have been here for three weeks and one more to go, totalling a month. If you read the other reviews, people either hate it or love it. However, the reasons listed why people did not like the Aquarius have not been true in my case. I have found the staff to be very outgoing and cordial. I have been VERY satisfied with the cleaning of the rooms and fresh linens and towels, especially with the nice touches of fresh flower accents on the pillows. Considering I am staying in the most budget of rooms, it is quite a good feeling. Even my budget room has excellent aircon, cable television (with 4 english stations, including one (Channel 51) which plays non-stop english movies both recent and a little older), refrigerator and well stocked minibar at reasonable prices on alcohol if you choose to use it. Yes, the pool is not an olympic size swimming pool, but it serves the purpose and as for the person who reviewed the pool as the size of his bath at home - if this is true, he should not have stayed here in the first place because he is obviously living in a mansion or castle back home and his rude remarks were likely because he could not get laid. As far as the airport pick-up - I would ONLY recommend an airport pick up if you are coming in late in the evening, say, past 7pm. During the day you can get a shuttle to the Paradise Hotel in Patong for 150 baht and be right at the Aquarius door. The going rate between the airport IS 600 baht by car/taxi, although you can work a discount at different places due to competition. DO NOT expect to find ANY transportation from the airport that is not arranged after midnight, as I found out the hard way coming in on Air Korea.

To sum things up - The rates at Aquarius vary by the room type. Working in the travel industry myself, I have looked at the various rooms they offer and I can tell you, you get what you pay for. Budget rooms are very simple though accomodating and still have all the necessities including private bath, minibar, cable TV, free coffee and tea and includes breakfast and entrance to the Sauna and gym. If you would prefer better and more inviting accomodations they have that also at very reasonable rates. The rooms have the same ameneties but are better decorated and more spacious.

As far as the Sauna - I found it to be very relaxing and overall clean. During my month visit, I have only visited 3 times so far, but each time, it was quite busy and everyone seemed to be having a good time. I did not witness any bad odors or such during any visit. Again, anyone who had a problem could have encountered a bad moment or they are just angry because they were not "lucky".

As far as the noise issue: In my room, you could hear the music coming from the downstairs sauna area each day between 3:30p and 8:30p but it is NOT of considerable volume and would only upset someone who was expecting COMPLETE silence, which if that is what you are expecting, why are you staying in the gay area to begin with??? In the night, yes, the nightlclubs go on til the early morning hours, but again, unless you are a VERY light sleeper and need total silence, it will not be an issue. To be perfectly honest, If you are expecting total silence, then the entire PATONG AREA of Phuket is not for you, not just Aquarius or the Paradise Complex.

All in all, the website is very accurate (even of the pictures shown of the rooms) and just like they say .... no surprises. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay IN the gay area and have a good time and save a few bucks at the same time.

“ATOMOSPHERE PLUS - CLEAN - SAFE - VALUE FOR MONEY”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2010

After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor, we was in two minds about staying at the Aquarius, however took our chances and could not have asked for more.

The description/photos of the rooms that you see on the net and their website are accurate. This hotel was a 2 minute walk to the many gay bars located on the "party strip" and about 1 minute away from Bangla Rd shops and markets.

If you are looking for or expecting 5 star, this hotel is maybe not for you, but if you are looking for a clean, safe and friendly place to stay with an atmosphere second to none, this is the place for you!!

I was very impressed by the staff, ammenaties, location, price and service! I will definatley stay at this hotel again and would recommend it to anyone!

To all the staff at Aquarius that made our vacation something to remember, thank you for the memories!
