“Dirty swimming pool and poor response from staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We stayed at the Novotel from Feb 3 - 10 2012.
It was a family holiday so we had a party of 10 adults and 2 children.
We booked 2 suites and 3 rooms of varying standard. We booked this hotel for a number of reasons one of them being the fact that they had three pools including a children's pool. The pools were extremely dirty, in fact, you could barely see the bottom of the central adults pool as it looked like a green swamp. I have a pool of my own and the Novotel's pool was an absolute disgrace by comparison. In the week we were there nothing improved and staff didn't seem to care. At one point after several complaints we were told it was the job of the sports department. At no point did they offer any compensation to any of us. At checkout I complained and suggested they discount my bill and was greeted with complete silence from the staff who simply went on to print my bill. In fact the only comment they made at checkout was to ask which credit card I would be using. This is not the way a quality hotel is run and I would suggest that you look elsewhere if you are to stay in Patong. In fact our daughter extended her stay and checked in to the Baan Lai Mai resort where they had a great room and a sparkling clean pool. So in summary look long and hard before you decide to stay here there are better options.

“Need more improvement for a 4 stars hotel.”

The ambience of the hotel is undeniably great. However, the disappointment kicks in when we entered the triple sharing room. The room is small. Further disappointment was hotel know its triple sharing yet the free mineral waters were given only 2 bottles. 2 robes in the wardrobe. Toilet paper only one.

As for the hotel staff attitudes was also great letdown. The services in a so-called 4 stars is not up to standard n expectations. Some are snobbish and unhelpful (probably becoz no tips were given in the first place). No initiative n not to mention proactive. I had been Thailand many times, as stayed a few hotels, some 3 stars yet services rendered was far more better n impressive than Novotel hotel. Example, Montien hotel bangkok, thumbs up.

Breakfast for 4 straight days are the same. Imagine eating the same food for 4 consecutive days.

Facilities at Novotel is not really fantastic. Umdoubtedly the ambience is great but certain area lack of practicality. Example, our hotel room is azelia and is located way down with lots of steps. Upon checking in, the porters will help to carry our luggages. Upon check out, here comes the worse, we have to drag and half carry our heavy luggages up the flight of rocky steps to the front desk. To my dismay, a male staff pass by and he only smiles but never offer to help us (3 girls). There is no lifts in this hotel and no helpful staff. Its really a letdown.

Will not stay in novotel Phuket on my next trip and will try other 4 stats hotel at Phuket.

Will not recommend this hotel to friends and relatives. 4 stars but services do not match the 4 stars standard.

“Absolutely awesome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

A bit expensive but what a great place to spend a holiday. Spent two weeks here and it was one of the only holidays that I just didn't want to go home.

The room is very well proportioned and comfortable with a large and firm bed (which is my preference but YMMV). A bit of an oddity is the serving hatch type of thing between the bedroom and the toilet which is a little lacking in privacy when attending to one's toilet...

The grounds of the hotel are lovely, and the three tiered swimming pools offer great views over the Andaman Sea.

The hotel is perched at the top of a very steep hill, but the hotel offer a golf buggy service to get you to the top. It is good exercise tho and worth taking the walk to get the blood pumping.

The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. It certainly is the land of smiles!

The breakfast in the restaurant is good, although I'd avoid the Japanese selection unless you are very brave. I tried the salted eggs and wished I hadn't. They have a typical omelette station which was appreciated.

In the heat of the afternoon staff bring around chilled melon to those around the pool which provided a welcome refreshment. Nice touch!

Ate in the restaurant on the first night which was ok, but VERY expensive. The rest of the time ate in restaurants in Patong where the locals go. Meal for 4 with drinks for a tenner. Lovely grub! Great price. Be wary of the touts trying to nab you whilst walking around town, as they seem to be everywhere.

Worth a walk up Bangla Road in the evening when all the workers and their clients are around. Well worth sitting in one of the (non-"specialist") bars people watching. You won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: Try to get a room that overlooks the sea. These tend to be given as a perk but worth a try. The stan...
