As in Pai you can get so much cheaper -nicer and closer to the centre as well- stays than at Phu Pai Art Resort, I expected something special and was quite disappointed as soon as I got there; the staff is only able to speak a few prepared sentences in english, therefor not able to answer questions ('nocannot') or react to concerns, there is NO internet in the Resort and as the place is way out of the Village (about 10min.by car, you need a lift every time you want to go to Pai) you can't get any connections. the whole Resort seems to fall apart and is not well taken care of; the swimming pool furniture is rotten and super dirty, there are no sunshades, my room door was split into two halves, etc. The breakfast buffet was gone at 9.30 even they tell you the buffet is open till 10am and was also very poor with some fluffy toasts, jam, unripe fruits and cold fried eggs and some incredibly sweet cane juice.
As they advertise to offer horse riding, I thought on my second day I will give them a last chance before I leave and will try out the horse riding, one of the reason why I came there (on the website it looks quit professional). But as it showed up, that was the top of the letdowns; the ponies (NO horses!!) -to be exact THREE ponies- are the height of about a meter and in a bad shape, the guide couldn't speak ANY word in english and he wasn't able at all to control HIS pony, which wouldn't want to walk forward (only back) that in the end I led him (!!), the tour was one way for and back and only in step pace and the ponies are not trained at all, so they kicked and bit all the time. I think it is quite dangerous what they do, if I picture some people could send their kids to ride the ponies.
Therefor I left on my second day against my booking of a week and they didn't (couldn't??) ask why. So I definitely can't recommend that place at all and as I saw a few places around here by now, you can find something with the same gorgeous view to treat yourself better and don't waste the money in this bad ART? hotel.
