My husband and 2 children (ages 3 and 5) stayed in a privacy cottage for a week in mid January. The cottage worked really well for us as the kids could be put to bed and my husband and I could sit outside in the private fenced in patio area and have a drink and talk. The daybed in the room is similar in size to a single bed so we had one child on that and the other on a cot that was supplied per our request. Our bed was extremely firm. The room was very nice, the bathroom could use some updating although it really didn't bother us at all as it was clean and we found the housekeeping to be excellent. The outdoor area was great for us, after spending the day at the beach and pool we returned before dinner and the kids were thrilled to have a bath in the huge outdoor tub which was washed and filled everyday by housekeeping. We had breakfast each day at the resort, which was fine but nothing great. The coffee is pretty horrid but there are a few places on the way to the walking street and on the walking street which advertise "real coffee" and I suggest both of these. We often also had dinner at the resort after finding out about the seafood grill which was great. The kids could play on the beach as we sat and relaxed with our drinks and food. The beach is beautiful, we enjoyed exploring the entire area, going to Phra Nang beach and seeing the cave and enjoying the great food from the boats pulled up on the sand. Taking a kayak was a highlight for us as it gives you a great perspective on the scenery and enables you to explore some caves. My husband and I took turns hiking up to the Scenic look out and lagoon as it would be impossible with the kids. Great view from the look out but I didn't think the lagoon was worth the effort as it is shallow and has a murky mud floor which cannot really be swimmed in. I would recommend going to the travel agency on the walking street which is next to a little gift store. I was given a much better deal for Nosey Parkers Elephant trekking than at the resort. Nosey parkers was definitely worth the trip! I found the service at the resort to be great, some female servers come accross as unfriendly but this may be cultural or just shyness and usually warmed up after a smile and attempt from us to speak Thai.
