My friend and I, both females stayed here for one night! We spent two months backpacking around Asia and were not looking for anything luxurious. But this was by far the WORST accomodation we have ever come across! The staff were extremely rude, unhelpful and strange. When we first arrived the place was deserted, there was cats everywhere, the staff did not communicate with us and there were a group of old men sitting around a table staring at us.
There was a padlock on the front of the bedroom door which made us believe that they were going to lock us into the room from the outside! There was no sign of anyone staying in the rooms beside us. The walls were grimy and dirty, the bathroom was filthy and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in over a decade and there was a disgusting smell from it! We made a complaint to management and asked to be moved to another room but fell on deaf ears.
I chose to sleep on a wooden chair that was in the bedroom as I saw bed bugs in my bed whereas my friend covered herself with insect repellent and had no choice but to lie on her bed. It was disgusting, neither of us got a wink of sleep and left at the crack of dawn.
The price is cheap but you can pay the same or a little more to stay in a far cleaner and safer room.

First of all - what is one of the most important thing in low-budget travel? low-budget accomadation!

For 250 bahts we had a large hut with private bathroom. Blue Star GH is located next to the Kwai River in the middle of tourist area of Kanchanaburi (15 minutes walking to the Bridge or 4 minutes by tuk-tuk for around 50 bahts).

Staff is very friendly and helpful. In guest house there is also restaurant - good food and reasonable prices.

We had a 650bhat hut right on the river, but it was more of a part of the river as there was a bank in it. Not really a problem. Bathroom and aircon were okay, and it was clean when we got there. Restaurant okay and loads of info at the desk. Helpful staff. Considering the cost, it is a budget place so don't expect perfection. Our shower head was iffy but swapped as soon as we said. Location good.
Biggest downside was duff advice that a mini bus would take us to Nakon Pathon, only to be told as we were about to leave it wasn't - so a mad rush for alternative plans! Also wifi didn't work with my Windows 7 laptop (worked ok on phone and others older laptops) Apart from this personal thing, we'd go back and recommend.

I stayed here for about 2 weeks in total. Everyone feels like family, very warm welcoming staff! Surrounded by green in the bungalows. Stayed in a few different rooms and all were so amazing! Such a fun place. Food was amazing! Easy to meet locals and fellow farangs at the table in the front. I will recommend this place again and again.
