This guesthouse is one of those that has guest writing all over the wall. In the comments, pong phen is praised for their smiling, friendly and helpful staff. I haven't met these people. Asking a simple question is a major inconvenience to them, no acknowledgement of even understanding what you said. No response to "hello", "good morning" nothing. Food good but orders usually forgotten or wrong. Rooms are good though-clean and greatly improved from our first visit. Free wifi, towels and swimming pool. 400b for river view. Beautiful landscaping.

If i could give it 3.5 out of 5 if i could as i think that would be a fair score as it probably is better than average.

the thing that let it down for me was that i personally thought the staff were really rude, but all the walls and guestbook are covered with comments saying how nice they were, maybe i just caught them on a bad day...

located down a side-road just off the main road to the river kwai bridge and JEATH war musuem, the location is good. took us about 15 minutes to walk down there. 10 minutes in the other direction is the big war cemetery.

you could do a lot worse than here for 500bht a night in peak season

Just off the main road where are located all GH. Nice open view toward the river and gardens.

All in all a decent guesthouse, well kept and maintained by the very friendly (and hard working !) staff.
Competitevely priced rooms, drinks and breakfast, reasonably priced food (although we didn't try it).
The guesthouse does what it promises, and an added bonus is the swimmingpool. Noisy birds in cages, but that's probably part of the exotic feeling.
