We planned our own travels through South East Asia, and felt so delighted with our choice of Mom Chailai. It was my husband's birthday on the day we arrived, and I was proud and happy of the choice I had made for my nature-loving husband. The setting is astoundingly beautiful, with stands of bamboo, unusual varieties of palms, and wood and boulder sculptures interspersed around the grounds in an aesthetically pleasing manner. We felt personally supported by the entire staff. and when we left, felt we left friends...the manager who personally cared for us and helped us by taking us on our excursions, to the kitchen staff who made every meal with tasteful typical choices. We loved our lodging, with its well air-conditioned bedroom with beautiful wood sculptures for bedstand and table, and the bath which included a shower with natural plants and trees. The mineral fed pool and fish spa were so soothing, since we chose to travel in late February, and the days were warm. This place has been planned, seeded, and groomed by Mom Chailai from the days of her childhood. We had the privilege of meeting her and her spouse who spent a night there with us. The vision of this woman from long ago is beautifully realized in this retreat setting. It is about 60 km north of Kanchanaburi, so one has to take a "taxi" truck to get there, but there is also a bus. Within reach of other beautiful natural wonders, such as the Erewan Waterfalls, we enjoyed both staying in retreat in the resort above the river, and spending a day in town exploring the history of the Bridge of the River Kwai. We smile to remember our delight of these days in Thailand, so different than the city centers we also enjoyed which had totally different offerings to these travelors from Chicagoland..
