“Dolphin Bay Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Dolphin Bay has a nice beach, 40 mins. drive from Hua Hin. I caught the train from Bangkok and the resort picked me up for 600B. Going back I caught the shuttle for 120B. Resort is starting to look a little tired, but it has 2 big pools. Family friendly means lots of children. Check your dates. I was there during a Missionary conference and every family seemed to have four or more kids. Room was large, bed ok, hot water a bit tricky depending on time of day, massage was good but dearer than the local one. Food so so but plenty of local places to eat. They use local fishing boats for trips and you pay directly to the fisherman. Could use some lounge chairs on the beach, deck chairs are not very comfortable. The price was right.

Room Tip: Choose a bungalow instead of upatairs, they have nice decks.

“~The Kids Loved It!”

~We stayed here in June 2011 for four nights, as a couple with our three children ages 7,8 and 14. Our room was comfortable and big. It was apartment style. Two bedrooms, a big living room, kitchen and two bathrooms & huge balcany. The pools were lovely with a slide for the kids, our kids spend hours in there playing with other kids at the resort. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Many selections for dinner. It was nice having the outdoor restaurant right by the pool. There are many things to do at and around Hua HIn. My daughter and I had Thai Massages for a great price at the hotel. We also took the long boat to Monkey Island and fed the monkeys, (local fishermen took us). We went into Hua Hin and rode horses on the beach & and went to Hua Hin Safari for elephant rides so much fun arranged by the hotel. The hotel also arranged our ride back to Bangkok to the airport. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

“Internet expensive, Good place for families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We stayed at the Dolphin Bay resort for 1 week in January 2012. In reviews others have mentioned the rooms are small and beds hard. We found the rooms to be quite adequate in size and beds quite comfortable - not too hard. Although they don't have non smoking rooms, and some of the guests were smoking, the room had NO smell of smoke. Much of this is due to the fact the floors are tiled and not carpeted, so there are no carpets to absorb the smoke smell. The Internet is unnecessarily expensive. US$2 for 1 hour and the speed is not the greatest. Others must have complained about the internet cost as the price listed in the rooms was 3 times that, so they must have decreased the cost. But they could easily include it in the coast of the rooms. There is no coffee maker in the rooms. The pools are generic rectangular pools, but there is a neat well used water slide for the kids. The individual 3 bedroom apartments in the back of the hotel have their own small pools which are nice. The breakfast buffet is adequate: omlettes, eggs, bacon, yoghurt, cereal, toast, coffee and tea and juice. No special rolls or bread. The breakfast costs US$5 for those who don't stay long enough to get it included in the room fee. The restaurant is decent with a huge menu and the food tastes good and is more reasonable than some of the other nearby restaurants. The rooms are kept clean and the staff very accomodating. The hotel is right across from a clean beach and there are adequate lounge chairs. Children really enjoy the pools and playground. If the hotel starts furnishing free internet and coffee, I would improve their rating.

Room Tip: Bungalows toward the road, such as number 1 or 2 are quieter as you don't get the noise from the...

“Pretty poor customer service”

My family and I recently had a pretty unpleasant experience here. We rented bikes for a half day, but about 5 miles from the resort, we got two flat tires. We hiked about two miles to find someone with a phone, called, and got picked up by a Dolphin Bay pick-up truck. When we returned the bikes, however, the front desk told us that there was a 150 baht fee for having called the pick up truck. I thought this was pretty unfair, because after all it was their bikes that broke and left us stranded on the side of a highway, but wasn't going to start screaming about it. They had a 200 baht security deposit from us, and they tried to keep the entire thing, until we challenged the math, at great length, and we got 50 baht back. So basically we paid for a full day of biking and only got about an hour in because their low-quality bicycles broke down on us. I was surprised. Anyway, there's so many resorts on this beach, why go to one where they are discourteous?

Room Tip: Go somewhere else; we enjoyed the Blue Beach resort, not 300 m. away.

“Outstanding value for money”

We booked two rooms for 3 adults and 1 child, for a short 2-night weekend out of town.
Functional rooms in a bungalow along the pool, each with a small bathroom and a huge fridge, safe, and good beds with hard matrasses.
Very good location spot on the beach, very friendly staff, pleasant pools, plenty of activities proposed or advice given on activities.
All in all a very good family hotel for a short break out of Bangkok, oustanding value.
The food is generally excellent, although I found the Thai food slightly "westernised" - the spicy dish was, after all, not very spicy. But the quality is certainly OK, and the prices are very reasonable.
