“Substandard in every way”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2011

This "Hotel" does not offer good value for money. I paid $150(prepaid) per night for 2 nights but only stayed 1. It was shocking. Queen sized rock hard bed in my "longstay suite". Bathroom so small that you had to close the door to use the sink. Bathroom and room in general would be worthy of maybe $40 per night. I was not expecting a quality Breakfast following my dissapointment of all facilities, and I was not suprised to get what I would be served at Foodland for 49 baht. The full breakfast consisted of a half slice of sandwich ham, 2 snotty eggs, a local chipolata, a miniscule incerated half rasher of bacon and the crowning glory of the obligatory lettuce leaf and slice of tomato. Black gritty coffee accompanied this breakfast feast and sweet watery orange juice + 2 x slices of damp toast. There were no cereals, no yoghurt, no breads/toaster, no pastries, etc'. We left shortly after and checked into the Sofitel which is excellent by the way.

“Pleasant cosy downtown & right on the beach located hotel .”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2011

Staff very pleasant but poor English proficiency for most & great location for this "boutique type" hotel in downtown Hua Hin giving a good ratio quality/price.
The few rooms located right on the beach are definitely the most desirable ones & the restaurant/bar has a great terrace facing the beach; However, breakfast should be improved to a buffet as it is included in the room price & that service tended at times to be a little long . The pool is rather small but nicely done & not a drawback since the beach is so close. On the whole, my friend & I spent a very nice & relaxing 8 days in this establishment & I would definitely reommend it to travelers who want to be right on the beach, close to the recently opened "Village Market" (a great shoping mall right downtown Hua Hin) & not paying the price of one of those 5 stars hotels.

“Veranda Lodge - a place of wonderful character and a great beach location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2011

We arrived on 30th December for a 2 week stay and what a great place to see in 2011. We stayed in one of the bungalows which were very spacious, and decorated in a contemporary style - king size bed, flat screen tv, day bed/sofa which could be used as another bed, walk-in shower with shower gel/shampoo, free wifi, safe, new good quality towels and beach towels, large fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, veranda and outside seating.
The bungalows are located to the side of the main hotel building, with trees and plants, and there are rabbits hopping around as well as chickens. You can also see squirrels in the trees. The area is swept and watered every day.
There is also fish and birds located within the hotel, and a large parrot outside reception who doesn't seem to talk at all... until one day while passing he suddenly said hello hello hello with no prompting or encouraging!
The small hotel is right on the beach which does mean that you turn off the main road down a small side street before getting to it. This street can seem a little uninspiring when you first arrive, but is very safe to walk down at night.
The beach front location is wonderful and was the reason we chose the hotel (as well as its character) There are sunbeds which are allocated to each room - a great idea. The restaurant overlooks the beach, so you can sit and watch the world go by while having breakfast. It is open all day and into the evening - we ate there twice in the evening and the food was lovely. Breakfast was selected from a small menu and prepared individually, and all choices came with fresh fruit. All the staff were exteremely helpful and friendly.
The hotel is located about 15 minutes walk into town - around the Hilton hotel area where the bars and restaurants are located, and there is also a night market. The hotel will order you a tuk-tuk which costs 100 baht to get into town in minutes or get one on the streets. If you turn left when you reach the mein road there is a small 7-11 shop, but slightly further is a shopping mall across the road with lots of shops, restaurants, bowling alley, and aTesco.
My partner also played golf while were there at Springfields and we went to Black Mountain to watch a Europe/Asia tournament.
LIKED: beach location and character of hotel
DISLIKED: nothing! ... maybe going home!

“Run Down Hotel, Mosquito and Cockroach Ridden , and no hot water in hand basins”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2010

I would never return to this hotel. The staff were no helpful. The whole place needs upgrading including the Bar/ Restaurant where the roof is caving in due to rain. There is no room balcony as such, no hot water in the wash basins, so my husband had to shave in the showere area with a portable mirror. The doors to the rooms do not fit properly, so mosquitos have a 'field day' and we were covered in bites within the first day. The beach area is fithy. The sand does not get covered by the tide, and the beach is never swept clean by the hotel, so there were millions of ants and sand flies around the sun loungers. The sunloungers and sun umbrellas were in a terrible condition, and nobody takes the cushions inside when it rains, so guests have to sit on 'squeching' cushions when the rain stops!!
