We arrived on 30th December for a 2 week stay and what a great place to see in 2011. We stayed in one of the bungalows which were very spacious, and decorated in a contemporary style - king size bed, flat screen tv, day bed/sofa which could be used as another bed, walk-in shower with shower gel/shampoo, free wifi, safe, new good quality towels and beach towels, large fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, veranda and outside seating.
The bungalows are located to the side of the main hotel building, with trees and plants, and there are rabbits hopping around as well as chickens. You can also see squirrels in the trees. The area is swept and watered every day.
There is also fish and birds located within the hotel, and a large parrot outside reception who doesn't seem to talk at all... until one day while passing he suddenly said hello hello hello with no prompting or encouraging!
The small hotel is right on the beach which does mean that you turn off the main road down a small side street before getting to it. This street can seem a little uninspiring when you first arrive, but is very safe to walk down at night.
The beach front location is wonderful and was the reason we chose the hotel (as well as its character) There are sunbeds which are allocated to each room - a great idea. The restaurant overlooks the beach, so you can sit and watch the world go by while having breakfast. It is open all day and into the evening - we ate there twice in the evening and the food was lovely. Breakfast was selected from a small menu and prepared individually, and all choices came with fresh fruit. All the staff were exteremely helpful and friendly.
The hotel is located about 15 minutes walk into town - around the Hilton hotel area where the bars and restaurants are located, and there is also a night market. The hotel will order you a tuk-tuk which costs 100 baht to get into town in minutes or get one on the streets. If you turn left when you reach the mein road there is a small 7-11 shop, but slightly further is a shopping mall across the road with lots of shops, restaurants, bowling alley, and aTesco.
My partner also played golf while were there at Springfields and we went to Black Mountain to watch a Europe/Asia tournament.
LIKED: beach location and character of hotel
DISLIKED: nothing! ... maybe going home!
