“Very relaxing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2010

I highly recommend Baan Duangkaew for a relaxing stay away from the noise and bars in Hua Hin. The Bungalows are nice and clean, not too fancy. There are a lot of trees and flowers so you are living in a garden. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. Twice a day there's a shuttlebus to Hua Hin, but you can always take a tuk tuk for only 4 euros - 7 min. and you are in town. In the weekends there is a very good marked right next to the hotel. Relax and enjoy!

“Nice but far from perfect”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2009

Two main problems with this resort.
The mosquites are a real problem and unlike many other hotels in this area there are no mossie nets over the beds.

The breakfast is really poor and the restaurant is a really dreary down market place out of place in this nice resort setting.

Also the beach is stated as being 100m away ........... well if a wet patch of sand at low tide is a beach then this is true!

“Loved it but.......”

Overall I enjoyed my 9 day stay here, the staff were really friendly and tried to make my stay a good one and in this they succeeded, the place was a wee bit hard to find and directions could have been better. I really liked the location of the hotel as its at the quiet end of the road and only 100 yards from the magnificent Hua Hin beach, the rooms were spotless though lacked some of the facilities I would have expected as this is at the pricier end of the 3 star range and to be honest in Thailand I've had better for less.

The water temperature is indeed sporadic and the shower area and toilet whilst adequate is badly in need of a revamp. The TV is not worth having and the channels and reception severely lacking, before anyone jumps on this saying "you don't go to Thailand to watch TV" you're right, I don't, but being the place it is now and again you get trapped in your room either because of the weather, being ill, or you have young children, so I consider this a necessity. The wireless internet was also sporadic in nature and slow.

My major issue; Breakfast was reasonable but at no time was the food covered in this open area despite the flying insect problem, I did mention this in the guest critique.

Would I stay there again? Due to the location and friendliness of the staff definetly yes. It felt like home for my stay and the short access to the beach was a bonus. None of the above spoiled anything for me and I merely use these as observations rather than complaints, these are all minor things which can be easily resolved should the management take the appropriate action.

  • Liked — Friendly Staff, location and appearance.
  • Disliked — breakfast area, TV & internet access

“Thai Bliss”

This was a brilliant find!
we stayed just four nights but like so many others wish it had been longer. It was very peaceful and very lush and tropical looking, the thai style accomodation is basic inside but very clean and the bungalows are a few steps from the pool. One of the pools is set in the shade and the other seems to get the sun more and has a jacuzzi.
we ate at the resort a couple of times, not a lot of choice but the food was nice, my partner had breakfast every morning and had something different everyday, in his words "it wasnt wonderful but it was good".
We loved the balcony and the pool area, the fact that the resort has a free shuttle taxi every day ,morning and evening ,which we used a lot and the fact that the quiter beach is just two minutes away, turn left out of the resort and walk to the end of the road! you can also walk along the beach to Ko takiab and a wonderful golden Budha on the hill top.
The staff are great, very friendly, one lady in particular on reception speaks very goog english.

This place is not a five star exclusive resort, but if you want thai feel, and somthing a bit different, relaxing and yet still close to the centre of hau hin if you want to visit it, then this is an ideal choice and I would highly recommend you try it out!

  • Liked — The gardens and pool area. Free bottles of water every day.well stocked large fridge.
  • Disliked — The beds were a bit hard.

“Very good for the price, but...”

I stayed 3 days on July 2008.

Good small resort with very nice Thai style bungalows, small but very good gardens and two nice swimming pools.

Everything makes you feel very - very relax, but I have a couple of negatives to mention...

1. We have no hot water in our bangalow (although we mentioned the problem at the reception and a technician came to fix it twice!)

2. The remote control for the A/C was replaced 2 times because they didn't work...

3. Two days the lady that make up our room didn't provide us with facial towels and new amenities (soap and shampoo, although both were finished) (first time that happen to me in a hotel!) But they provided to us when we asked for ...
