“poor choice for us|”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

booked hotel for 2 night stay. hotel is outside of the city and next to a construction of a new shopping center. the hotel was almost empty the week-end we were there. we booked a city view room. we looked out a a bunch of wooden shutters and the backyard of junk. the rooms on the first night were musty, not used often. the breakfast was ok but get there early. food was okay the fried eegs are fried all at the same time and then sit on the counter....the second evening our rooms smelt like tobacco smoke and the sheets also. i do not recommend this hotel. look for something closer to the center of town. hotel is over priced

“Enjoyed The 10 Day Stay... Staff made it For Me....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

Great Hotel, Very Spacious, Quiet Relaxing In the Day, Pool Side, Rooms spacious ,

House Keeping Team , Reception Staff, Waiting Team , all very Helpful , Friendly and accomadating....

A little far from town centre, but I like to Walk...so did not mind.....
Only One problem I can think of.... listed on some sites as having Gym, Sauna, Jacuzzi, None present there when I stayed , prehaps a management response..

Would Recommend...............

“Perfect hotel for a visit to Chiang rai”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2011

The hotel is about 4km from the centre of town. However this wasn't a problem for us. The hotel is spacious with beautiful gardens and a large bathroom and bedroom. The hotel runs a free shuttle to the night bazaar each night which is handy but a Tuk tuk is easily organized for 80baht.
The pool area is very relaxing with free wifi. I definitely recommend the 400 baht 2 hour massage by the pool!
They are building a big mall
Next to the hotel which will be good for the hotels area

“Value for Money No Frills Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2011

Guess my heading sums it nicely :) Good as stopover or if you're arriving on evening flight like us and just need a decent place to shower and rest.

ROOM - Spacious for the price only about SGD 70 for basic room. Bed was alright, not the best quality mattress but sleep quality still fine. Big bathroom with separate standing shower and WC areas. TV channels were the best of the four hotels we tried in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai (Pak Chiang Mai - no TV, listen to jazz CD, Ping Nakara - they provide DVDs, River House - good CDs)

HOTEL - Spacious lobby, gardens etc for a boutique hotel. Housed various accomodation wings separate from main lobby and dining. Buffet breakfast variety and decor great, uber modern with plush seating, good sunlight etc. Staff helpful. Food tasted good though I suffered food poisoning and threw up dramatically later in the day (but my 3 friends who ate the same were fine).Just opp BIG C Supermart!

“Our Horrible Experience at the Mantirini”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2011

We had a horrible stay at the Mantirini. It is rated a high end hotel in Chaing Rai because there aren't many hotels. The location is 3-5 km away from the City Center depending on which roads you take. It is a long walk. They advertise free shuttle service to town but it only leaves once a day at 7pm and returns at 9pm. The rest of the time you are paying 60 bht each way to the town. There aren't many food options around the hotel. The room is okay. The bathroom has a large shower but the shower title is dirty. Gross. Don't do your laundry here, by mistake I checked in my clothes without knowing the price, $80 was my bill. What crap!! Here is the kicker, so the second night of our stay in quite Chaing Rai a Thai rock band was staying in several rooms, 10 people total at the hotel. They partied all night till 5:30 in the morning. We called the front desk over 4 times and nothing was done. Get control of your guests! We felt so unsafe and were upset that we got no sleep that night. We got out of our third night of staying there and went to Le Meridien. I suggest spending the extra money in advance and booking Le Meridien. The Mantirini does not value there guest.
