I currently live in the dump that is Surat Thani, so compared to everything else in this town, this is for sure a step up.
My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary because we didn't have time to go out of town. We were impressed with the lobby, but the staff were something else. I've learned that Thai hospitality is a joke at best, so this wasn't much different. These girls in particular were too busy texting and looking in the mirror to check us in right away and then they gave us disgusted looks when they saw us with motorbike helmets and rain gear (it was raining and we drive a motorbike!! This is Thailand!).
Anyway, the room was nice. A bit dark, but comfortable. The pool area was beautiful but there were a bunch of screaming kids and a bus load of Japanese tourists that had noisily taken over there area. Not exactly romantic, but it wasn't the hotel's fault.
Overall, the room and the hotel were pleasant. The staff need some sticks removed from their nether regions, but if you have the unfortunate luck of having to stay in Surat over night, definitely stay here.
Oh, and the free breakfast buffet was nice!
