“fantastic”

Our extended family of 9 children and 5 adults have just spent the most wonderful Christmas and New Year at Ban Suraya. The staff were exceptional. The food better than most restaurants we tried. The lawn was large enough for the boys to play cricket and they also enjoyed table tennis as well as games in the pool. The girls commandeered the spa , setting up a beauty salon which kept them very happy. We had a yoga teacher , massages, a boat trip to the islands , all arranged quietly and efficiently by Kun Tik, the manager. The villa was really lovely. Excellent bedrooms and lots of space in the rest of the villa for different activities. We could be as informal as we wished with the amenities of a first class hotel.

“Spectacular, special and private Ban Suriya”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2010

What a place! My wife and I travelled with several other friends to these extraordinary villas right on the beach. The website gives spectacular photos, and we weren't disappointed. Met at the door by Manageress Tic and the smiling staff, then shown to our villas, before dropping into the pool. Having the whole villa to ourselves was special; far better than being part of a larger resort.
The private service by Tic, our excellent chef, and the great staff made this location something to always remember. Nothing was too much trouble, with a restaurant sized menu to choose from for lunch and dinner meals, all made with fresh produce purchased daily at the nearby markets. Our special event was made better when Tic and the staff arranged for fireworks on the beach. Massages can be arranged by Tic with only short notice, as is the ability to get a hire car or book local tours. The local town of Nathon is only 8km, and has some large market areas which you can visit without being harassed by local hawkers, but with the same incredibly low prices. Another specialty of Ban Suriya is the large outdoor screen, which is set up between the palm trees near the beach.
As shown in the website photos, the 2 pools were always kept spotless, as were the villa grounds. The bedrooms and bathrooms were always impeccably serviced.
In summary, this is a top location for groups to totally relax in a high level of comfort, and you would need to go a long way to find somewhere better for the price.

“Fantastic Place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2009

Trip to Ban Suriya was amazing! From being picked up at the airport (cold towels, anyone?) to the chef's selection of fresh seafood every day, this was the perfect place for us to relax and unwind for a week. Oh, also, had a fully stocked bar on arrival, which was very important!

Food - the chef was amazing! We chose what we wanted each morning, and he surprised us every day with innovative takes on traditional thai food. Fresh seafood daily! And it was fresh - we accompanied the chef to the fish market, and were amazed! Living in Asia, I am used to it, but my friends from the US were gobsmacked at the variety of fresh fish, etc. available and at how reasonable it was

Rooms - Didn't spend much time in the rooms, other than sleeping at night, but everything was great. A/C worked effectively, beds were spacious and kept clean, and the bathrooms were always spotless and very luxurious. All the villas are separated so everyone has privacy when needed

Pool - One word, FAN-TABULOUS! ok, combination of words. Spent most of our time in and around the pool, and couldn't have asked for more. Clean, perfect temperature, plus the swim up bar!

Misc. - Khun Tik, our house manager, was amazing. She managed to get us spots at a very exclusive spa at the last minute (natural steam caves, and cold plunge pools, plus a 2.5 hour massage)! Catered to all we needed, and even set up a snorkelling trip and packed lunch within an hour or so. Thanks Khun Tik!

Overall - great place to go with some friends (couples or single). Will definitely be back as soon as I can!

“Our best ever family holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2007

Bansuriya is amazing. Twelve of us stayed there last October - seven adults and five children (ages 1, 3, 3, 5 and 8) and it truly was 'the holiday of a lifetime'. We still frequently reminisce about it now.

For the first few days we wandered around pinching ourselves - it was like being on the set of an Elle Decoration or Wallpaper* shoot. The design and decor is incredibly stylish - very contemporary, but comfortable with it.

You walk through this huge entrance and there's an amazing view straight down the pool, across the gardens and then onto the villa's private beach. The gorgeous pool has a glass side so people sitting in the viewing den can watch people’s legs as they swim, or swimmers can dive down and wave underwater - it's a really clever design touch. There’s also a swim-up bar at the other end where we’d have nightly sundowner cocktails rustled up by Pom, the villa gardener who used to be a barman at a five-star hotel.

It's such a social space and everything centres around the huge main villa with its big open kitchen; a long breakfast bar looking over the pool (the kids loved to line up there together, swinging on the bar stools and eating their meals); the aforementioned viewing den; a TV den; and an upstairs chill-out lounge. There are lots of dining areas to choose from - a huge square table in the main villa, a table built around a frangipani tree next to the barbecue sala - but we had all our meals at the circular table on the terrace, which was really conducive to good conversation. Also, it was sheltered, so that even during the occasional downpour, we just carried on eating and chatting.

The team of staff were amazing. Chin, the housekeeper, is a former chef and her Thai cooking was as good as, if not better, than much we've had in Thai restaurants. Some nights they'd fire up the barbecue and we'd have fantastic fresh seafood, lobster, grilled meats and great salads.

Before we arrived, I was worried we'd be bored, but the days just whizzed by. We'd wake, have breakfast, swim, have lunch, the kids would nap (as would the adults sometimes), then we'd swim some more, sundowner cocktails, have dinner then chat, watch DVDs or play board games till bedtime.

Everyone had their own villa - in fact there were still a couple spare when we were there. There's so much space (35,000 sq ft apparently) that you never feel on top of each other. If you want some quiet time you just wander off to read a book, have a nap, watch a DVD, take a soak in the Jacuzzi or have a massage on the deck (a masseur comes to the villa). If you’re feeling more active, you can have a workout in the gym, a game of tennis or a shot on the PlayStation, a walk along the beach or take a swim in the pool or a dip in the ocean...

By the end of our stay, we truly didn’t want to leave and we have vowed to go back again one day.
