“Very Good Value for money..but could be better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2011

I booked the superior room for only 935 Baht (30 USD). But I felt so surprised when I entered the lobby of the hotel. I would say it should be 3.5 or 4 star hotel with big lobby. I felt that it's very good value comparing to other hotel standard in Bangkok and Samui. Here are the full review :
Room : The room is quite big and spacious. The bed is comfortable enough. The tv cable also provide some good channels, quite surprising considering the location of the hotel, which is in Surat Thani, not a major tourist attractions.
Bathroom: the en-suite bathroom is another plus thing. It has bathtub !!! and also standing shower. The bathroom is very clean and quite spacious.
The Staffs: the staffs are warm and kind even-tough the major disappointment is most of them couldn't speak English at all. I have a mixed experience about the extra bed in this hotel. I already booked extra bed through sawadee.com and they already provided in my room. But suddenly the room boy knocking the room door and he brought another extra bed !!! lol...presumably he would like to deliver the extra bed but he didn't notice that the another extra bed has already inside the room. I said that we don;t need another extra bed because it's already inside the room. So I closed the door then suddenly the phone rang up, the receptionist with her barely English tried to explain that the extra bed is already outside the room. I told her several times that we've already given and it took around 40-50 minutes speaking with the receptionist. Finally I gave up and I ask someone who can speak english to go to my room. Then someone come to my room and understood that the another extra bed is already in the room. Tips : Learn some thai vocabs extremely would help you.
Food : The buffet breakfast is quite good, but I found that the cafe near to the lobby has lot of mosquitos. Avoid it or you could take away to your room. The food in the cafe is good value but has limited selections.
Ambience and other amenities: the corridor is quite dark when night, so some would consider little bit spooky since the occupancies are low. On the other hand, the positive thing that it has a quite big swimming pool.
Conclusion: for the price that I paid, I would consider it very good value even-though there are also some drawbacks. There are also airport transfer although it's little bit pricey. I suggest you should deal with songthaew drivers when you arrived for the first time in this hotel.

“avoid it if you can”

This is a modern-looking but rather run-down hotel that desperately needs renovation and an upgrade. It is badly located some distance from ferries, city, bus stations. Its internet service is expensive. Paint is peeling off walls, carpets are smelly. One night there was too much.

“Ideal for a stopover”

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 1 night as we were had to catch an early morning flight from Surat Thani to Bangkok.
We booked through AsiaRooms for around £24 and would say that it was well worth the money. We had travelled in from Koh Phangan on the Raja Ferry, and the transfer coach drops you off a couple of miles away, and a taxi will charge you 50 baht to take you there.
The rooms are adequately furnished, albeit slightly dated, and are comfortable enough. The shower is also pretty good.
As we arrived quite late, we decided to eat in the restaurant, and the food was very reasonable. The breakfast was also good.
A lot of the waiting staff did not speak/understand English, but I think the hotel attracts more local clientele, so why should they!

“Big but thats about it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2010

This hotel is a large european style hotel on the edge of the town of Surat Thani. It is though close to the river front which is the best way to walk into town past some nice bars and restaurants. The hotel is on the main road leading into the town from the train station

Reception area is large with a number of staff on duty. Most of who appear to speak English, so there was no problem with the booking. In the reception there is a seating area, travel agent and a small coffee shop. The main restaurant is located off this area as well. To the rear of the hotel is the gym which is fine, a large outdoor swimming room and a sauna. The hotel does have a WIFI signal but this is through TRUE which requires a 100bt voucher for 24hrs continuous service. This may be purchased from reception.

The hotel bedrooms are reached by lift and it appears that each floor has its own maid service.

The bedroom was medium in size but fine. It was a little tired and unfortunately was carpeted so this may be dificult to keep free and clean in a humid climate. There was no balcony and whilst it was a non smoking room, on the ledge outside the rooms window there was a large number of cigarette buts which had not been cleaned away by staff.

The restaurant is large with friendly staff. Breakfast was buffet style with a chef on duty to cook eggs to order.

Outside the hotel there are a number of taxis parked up which charged 40bt to get to the towns bus station.

Overall its more likely that the hotel will be used by a family to use the facilities rather than by backpackers. The room rate for the stay was approx 1000bt.

I would stay at this hotel again if i wanted to use the facilities otherwise i would use a hotel closer to town which i have also stayed in..

If you are to arrive at the hotel from the local train station by bus (20bt) then do tell the conductor that you want to get off at the hotel otherwise its a bit of a walk back from the bus station.

“Bargain stop Over”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2010

Bargain Stop Over, which is what we did here before catching an early morning flight from the airport. The service at the front desk was friendly and professional and all the communications leading to booking were painless. They even orgnaized a car for us at 5.45am (400baht) as the airport doesn't offer a free transfer with Nok Air. Overall the room whih cost us less than £20 was huge, overlooking the pool which looked not bad. the decor is 70's but the room are big, comfy-ish bed, very very peaceful sleep. bathroom a little dated but an amazingingly powerful shower. We had a terrible thai green curry in the restaurant and should have eaten out. Surat Thani is a very interesting place, not tainted by tourism at all, no bars, just markets, pleasant riverside walk, street food cafe's etc. wish I could of spent another day to see the nicer places. Hotel is a bargain, staff are friendly, food is bad. Transfer took 25 mins by car to the airort at 5.45am with clear roads (we arrived at the airport before any of the staff!!), allow another 20 mins for traffic lights and traffic if during the day. The value for money is the winner with this one and if you are not stopping long it's a good choice.
