Stayed for 3 nights at Tony Lodge in December 07 and found it to be great! Very clean, good sized rooms with balconies, air con and hot showers, not a cockroach to be seen and very friendly staff (Wuttichai the manager has the biggest smile, and Noon who serves breakfast is also super friendly!).
The hotel is about a 6/7 minute walk from the beach past a few shops and restaurants, and is on the main road through Bang Niang. Tony Lodge guests have access to the pool at the slightly more upmarket hotel right next door (the name of which escapes me, sorry) and you eat breakfast there too - which is really yummy, including as much fresh fruit as you can eat, waffles, french toast, eggs, bacon, juice, tea coffee etc.
We paid the website price of 1500 baht per night but were told by a local that they knew others who were paying 800 baht (which may well be the walk in price?) however, we thought it was worth every penny of what we paid :)
Lastly the hotel sent a car and driver to meet us at Phuket airport, which again was faultless, we travelled in a very smart blacked out cruiser and had a lovely driver, this cost us 1500 baht too, which I think is about average and meant no haggling/arguing with the meter drivers after the travelling from London!
