We stayed at Baan Krating for 4 nights recently. We booked over internet and were given a discounted rate 3,200 Baat per night for one of the pavilion rooms (new rooms overlooking the beach). The room was spotless, bathroom fabulous apart from the shower pressure being low on occasion. Because the resort is high up in the rainforest, we had a fabulous view of the beach below as well as lots of butterfllies, birds, lizards and all sorts of wildlife outside. At night we left our patio door open with the mosquito doors closed and a lovely breeze would come into the room.
Ok, we love nature and wildlife and are fairly fit so we enjoyed being right in the centre of the trees however if it's a resort right on the beach you want then this isn't the place to come. The hike up and down to the beach can be quite hard, after the first day our leg muscles really felt it (which we relieved by having regular massages!). A lot of the other resorts on the beach were fairly busy and people were packed in like sardines, whereas once we had climbed the stairs to our lovely bungalow and verhanda, we had peace, tranquility and a wonderful view with a fabulous breeze away from everyone.
There is breakfast included in the price, free internet. Worth the extra money to get one of the pavilion rooms.

the standard bungalow is really small, internet states 23 sqm for the room, but this is the sizes of the whole bungalow, incl. bathroom and terace
the superior bungalows are nice and have much more space
hot water in bathroom is very slow - take your time for a shower
for new bed sheets you have to advise the staff, but they are very friendly and helpful
breakfast was okay, some thai, some european food

whole ressort is directly udnerneath the main street - the upper bungalows are really loud

don't book a standard bungalow, you will definitely miss space if you stax there for more than 2 days

nice place outside khao lak, you should rent a motorbike

We booked this hotel via its website and read a lot of reviews before. It was good value (2 nights incl. breakfast and 1 free dinner) but when we stayed in the same Baan Krating on Phuket the other one won in all categories. This is not a bad place, still small, quiet resort with great pool and away from noise, but breakfast is very simple, the free dinner is OK, but not so special, beach in the outside season is not maintained and bit dirty. But staff is pleasant, rooms are clean and provide good comfort, and the gardens are nice too. Parking is very small (did not worry us as it wasn't full, but can not imagine in full capacity) and if you are there without a car, your options are limited, but the parks nearby are worth visiting, the town does not have any special feel.

If you wanna get away from the city, relax in comfort, wake up with the singing birds and other clam wave crashing on the rock next to your ears, I would strongly recommend this place.
