We stayed at Nangthong Beach resort's Garden bungalow and enjoyed! Beautiful beach and hotel area, great location, comfortable extra bed and reasonable prices (for both rooms and airport transfer).
Only thing I didn't like was the shower. We weren't able to get warm water during our 8 nights stay. It kept going from cold to too hot and then again cold, so it wasn't easy to give a shower for children.
Another thing that bothered me was the fact that people were occupying beach/pool beds for whole day (starting 7 am) even if they used them only an hour. That's not hotel's fault, I just hope people would be more thoughtful.

Tip: there are two shortcuts to the main road where most of the restaurants and shops are.

Omg this place was a bargain $47 per night for a bungalow right on the beach front, this would not be possible in australia. I loved everything about this place, the location, the town, the beach, the room, everything. I travel to thailand 4 times per year and stay at many different hotels. I loved our bungalow with the gorgeous view over the beach, the rooms were very clean and a good size. If there was any thing to complain about it would be the noise of the air-cond and the hardness of the bed. I did find the mattress excessively hard but our friends next door thought it was perfect so its a personal thing. We were lucky enough to have the entire resort to ourselves as it was off season, that was a bit surreal. We ate breakfast every morning in the restaurant and a few dinners and everything was pretty good, they staff dont have much english but we managed to communicate with them without any hassles. The resort staff seem to leave you to your own devices which we loved, but they were there in the back ground when needed.
It was a 10 to 15 minute walk into town but the staff will run you up there on the golf cart if you ask. This resort was fantastic value for money during off/wet season. If your looking for some peace & quiet this place during off season would be at the top of my list.

firstly like everyone else i would say this hotel definitely provides value for money and i liked the bungalows,pool,restaurant and location right on the beach.the staff is very friendly but unobtrusive and so is the management.since we were diving most of the time we didn't want a very expensive place but still wanted something comfortable and nangthong 2 did match that very well.just two small things,in my friends room the tea/coffee machine wasn't working and when he asked for some tea it never arrived,i'd like to attribute it to a lack of communication but i think any service oriented hotel needs to look into the details.also the tv didn't have a single english channel and while it might seem trivial when your on holiday in a beach resort but i like to watch some tv before going to sleep and i think it's not asking for too much.i think the resort is on the cusp of being a really good value resort with excellent service to match once they overcome a couple of small details,i would still recommend this hotel and go back myself.

Overall very (very) clean, nice, well priced, good location on beach. This was the last place we stayed in Thailand, and my only thought was that it felt the least "thai" of anyplace we'd stayed. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms clean, but it all felt very sterile. Staff good but not overly friendly - it almost seemed you could be anywhere - insert beach vacation destination here. For those who care, nearly the entire place seemed to be filled with German retirees, a bit too retirement community feeling for us (early 40's). Easy walk to Khao Lak strip.
