At the time of booking we agonised between this hotel and the Marriott and oh do I regret our decision - after 2 nights here we moved to The Marriott down the road - which is in an entirely different class, even though they are exactly the same price.
I hate reading winging reviews so I'll try and be as helpful as possible, because this hotel marred our holiday and the Marriott thankfully saved the day!
This place reminded me more of a large all inclusive 3* resort in Mexico or disneyland rather what you'd expect for 5* hotel in Thailand. In my view, this place is aimed at the mass family market and certainly more geared towards European/German guests.
The GOOD: Nice gardens/landscaping, pool area attractive.
The BAD: rooms are functional but nothing special, but when you look closely all fittings are cheap/nasty, much is damaged and has the general feel of a Travelodge trying to look upmarket. Very crowded everywhere so you have to be up at the crack of dawn to get a beach bed. Beach very disappointing, not enough sunbeds and all crowded together with screaming kids on top of you. Poor choice of local restaurants or anything else for that matter nearby. Reception area sloppy and lots of people eating chips and burgers and gives air of general untidiness/grubbiness.
THE UGLY: huge and sprawling unattractive concrete building, rooms can be long walk through grey concrete corridor. Poor quality, very worn and soggy bed linen, appalling bath towels, thin and threadbare, beach towels were stained and you have to exchange them each day with card system (which you'd expect in 3* not 5*) in case you pinch them I guess - personally I'd bin them! Altogether very poor service, unhappy and sulky staff and not representative of any other service we received whilst in Thailand. Dirty/grubby particularly by the pool and restaurant area - rubbish in big carts on open view to guests, very limited choice of Thai food - mostly European food on menus in the restaurants. The food we ate at beach restaurant was worse than plane food, it was like cardboard. Horrible, pointless and unsightly "zoo" - which is just some deer in an ugly pen area in the grounds. They have got some ludicrous system playing idiotic and patronizing animal/jungle sounds in the lifts and in the reception area. Unsightly area of crazy golf and other games areas to the side of hotel.
So ..... I'm sure that it'll come as no surprise that my recommendation is if you are looking for a relaxing peaceful and luxurious holiday - stay in the Marriott rather than this hotel!

Dear flufflett,
I am sorry to hear that our hotel did not meet your expectation at all and I am glad to read that you have found a suitable hotel for your stay in Khao Lak. Different guests prefer different products and different types of hotels. We also have customers that were moved from other resorts to our resort due to various reasons, as each hotel has it own unique character, ambience and service concept.
We always welcome guests’ feedbacks for us to learn, improve and understand our guests’ needs. I will certainly share and review your comments with my team and rectify the areas wherever necessary. Since years, Khao Lak has been a favorite holiday destination for many European markets, including Germany, Switzerland and Scandinavia. There is no particular aim towards particular markets, the customer has the choice what suits their preferences and budget the best.
Our hotel is designed with a dual concept for families and couples. We have a spa complex, which is peaceful, ideal for couples to relax and enjoy a quiet day. The spa complex is complete with our award winning spa, adult only spa pool with Jacuzzi, gym, 18 hole mini golf, archery, golf driving range and two tennis courts. Our family complex includes a large family pool with water slides, kids’ pool and a kid’s club. This is a perfect haven for families with young kids to enjoy a great fun day.
Teakwood materials are employed for the all guestroom furnishing and flooring and certainly it gets scratched and damaged from time to time. To address this issue, every year, the resort carries out an extensive soft refurbishment to refresh and repair our product and facilities to meet today’s guest’s needs. We are currently planning this maintenance program for the upcoming green season.
I have taken on board your comments on our bed linen and towels. We have just received 800 pieces of new bed linen and towels from the manufacturers this week.
As a little surprise I have noted your comment about the limited choice of Thai food, as our restaurant selection includes our Baan Thai restaurant with over 40 Thai dishes for selection. In addition our Bamboo Beach Grill includes a further 8 Thai dishes serving a more international menu.
The animal sound in the lift is the Le Meridien elevator sound track created by the award winning musicians & composer Henry Scars Struck for all Le Meridien hotels and resorts worldwide. There are 6 different sounds that rotate on a 6-hour time frame to identify different periods of the day to the guest. The entire experience is to RESET the guest’s mind.
We thank you once again for contributing your review on this platform.
Kind regards
