We has a de-luxe room, but tried to upgrade to a pool-access room. However, all were booked up for the time we were there. The room was fine, but some noise from thoughtless guests slamming their doors in the echoing outside corridor. Large shower, but a little mouldy, and we found that the plug didn't fit the bath properly, so it would not fill. The mosquito killer in the room is a nice touch, and don't worry, you get replacement tablets for it every day - i didn't realise that at first, and tried to buy some in the local area.
The grounds are delightful, pools and waterfalls, and down where the beach loungers are, there are mynah birds who are really tame, and appear as soon as you bring out anything to eat!
Good breakfasts, with an egg station, and fair menu at the beach bar. Enjoyed their "children's" cocktail (no alcohol!) in the daytime heat. Remember to flash your 10% discount card, even if it's just for drinks - it soon mounts up. We also walked along to the left,to "My Friend", where we enjoyed the soups, and the chicken with pepper and garlic. Discovered that "with powder" means tempura - which was delicious.
Taxi service from hotel to main town area was reasonable, and you didn't have to wait long, if "he" was out on another trip. We booked him for the return trip also, but no later than 8.30pm. 160 Bht each way, for 2 of us.
Ate at O'Rendez-vous, Smile, Fizz and Phulay in town. Locally, we tried Ruen Thai, Bamboo, Mali and Luciano's. O'Rendez-vous was our favourite - it's at the far end from the centre away from where you are dropped off, on the right, just past the Biker Bar. Lovely people and terriffic food. Their wine is not too expensive also, which is unusual for Thailand.
Be a bit wary of the internet cards you can buy for your room. Although they are not that expensive, we think that we didn't get our full time for the cards we bought.
My husband had 2 (!) Head and shoulder massages, one using the 30% discount given on arrival. I had reflexology and a pedicure. Both were done well, but kind of silent, because the ladies spoke almost no English.
The reception staff were very helpful, and we finally managed to get our boarding passes printed for the return trip. Again, English understanding not that good, which was surprising.
We had a very early departure, and a breakfast box was provided for the taxi.
