“A great traditional lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I have traveled extensively in Africa. I have been on commercial photo safaris as well as private safaris. The Ndutu lodge, in my opinion, will always stand out as one of our best experiences on a commercial photo safari. This was our last lodge on a 7 night photo safari after climbing Kilimanjaro. We stayed in Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongo as well as the serengeti. We stayed at Sopa Lodges as well as Serena Lodges. The simplicity and "real africa" experience of Ndutu Lodge should not be missed. It isn't the Four Seasons. It is AFRICA. The have a lovely fire pit to sit around and have sundowners as well as enjoy some time after dinner. It was the perfect end to our Serengeti safari.

“not as good as a motel”

It is a terrible experience. The room has no mosquito net. We were all bitten terribly. The toilet flushing system in our room did not work appropriately. The food were horrible. A lot of flies on the food. The staff even do not bother to use a cover or chase away the flies. My husband got a terrible diarrhea after eating there. I also had a diarrhea but not as bad. I will avoid this place if possible.

“Amazing place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

What an amazing place! Located within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and with no boundaries between the animals and the lodge, this was a wonderful place to stay. The location and wildlife were the best things, but the lodge and the staff were great too. Our accomodation was perfectly comfortable with everything clean and in working order. The bar was great, allowing us to enjoy a beer while watching the sun go down with the animals in the distance. Food was good too. Would recommend this to anyone on safari in Northern Tanzania.

“Everything we thought it should be”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We loved this place! But then we're not expecting, nor even wanting, luxury in the wild. Great location for game drives. The food was fine (none of our group of 12 complained of quantity or quality). Rooms weren't huge, but there was room to move around the beds and get into our suitcases easily. Several reviews here state that there were no electrical outlets in the rooms, but there must have been in ours, as we certainly would remember charging our phones and camera batteries elsewhere. Whether sitting on the little deck, gathering in the lounge area, or talking around the campfire, our free time was enjoyable. Mosquito nets were in our closets, nicely bagged. Being extra cautious, we used ours, but other members of our group chose not to as the area is supposedly malaria free. When something woke us up in the middle of the night, we managed to figure out by the light of our headlamps that it was cape buffalo right in front of our cabin. Other wild visitors that we enjoyed watching in front of our cabin, beside the resident genets, were the lovebirds, weaver birds, warthogs, dik-dik, and more that I cannot remember right now. Of the 6 lodges we stayed at in Tanzania, this is probably our favorite.

“Taste of African wilderness”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

My husband and I stayed here for two nights last week. I loved the place because it really made me feel I was in Africa. Its located in the wild, you can see zebras grazing from your room, it is dark at night and the starts look lovely, the coffee was yummy and so were the fruits. Its very comfortable, clean, friendly and lots of fun. If you are looking for something like the Sopa lodge, this is not the place for you. If you want the 'african feel', this is the right place for you. I wasn't looking to stay in a luxury hotel in the wilderness because I can do that in any major city so I loved this place. Contrary to some reviews, this place does have mosquito nets in every rooms cupboard. It was fun sleeping in the mosquito nets actually. The place is environmental friendly to a great extend and the campfire is also made with wood collected from the wild. The water here is very weird so be prepared and do take your own toiletries.
